In this English lesson I wanted to help you learn the English phrase, to kick butt. Now, I think you all know what kicking is. It's something you do with your foot, and your butt is below your back. That's probably the best and nicest way to describe it. But the phrase to kick butt, doesn't actually refer to going and kicking people in the butt, it refers to winning. We use this a lot to talk about sports teams. We'll say that, you know, I'm going to watch my favorite team play today. I hope that they will kick butt, basically you don't mean they're gonna go on the field, and kick the other players in the butt, what you mean is that they're going to play the game. They're gonna play really, really well. And they're gonna win by a lot of points. So, if you were to say, I hope that they will kick butt, it means that you hope they will win.
