2020 – A year like no other | Hugh Carthy the complete package but will EF back him for GC in 2021?
Brad and Graham are back and joined by living legend Sean Kelly for the last episode of the Bradley Wiggins Show this year to dissect a season like no other.  The trio deliberate on the truncated racing calendar with Sam Bennett and Tao Geoghegan Hart’s exploits at the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia lauded. King Kelly breaks down his nerves as protégé Bennett sealed Champs-Élysées glory.   Primoz Roglic, who saw a maiden Tour de France win agonisingly taken from his grasp by Tadej Pogačar, bounced back to claim a consecutive Vuelta a España to continue an astounding few years.   Elsewhere, Hugh Carthy was the latest breakthrough act in a season of breakthroughs, and Brad calls the Lancashire rider the finished package, who has a genuine chance of winning a Grand Tour. However, will EF Pro Cycling back him?  2012 Tour de France winner Brad expects Team Ineos to bounce back after – despite Giro success – a disappointing season but raises questions over some of the signings the British-based team have made. Chris Froome, who is set to sign with Israel Start-Up Nation for the 2021 season, expects excellence, adds Brad, and his team have made some astute signings to support the seven-times Grand Tour winner as he goes in search of a fifth Tour.  The trio wrap up with their moments of the season and expectations for next year. 198: The transfer market
In this week's episode Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe talk about cycling's transfer market and the eleventh hour rescue of World Tour team NTT, which will race in 2021 as Qhubeka Assos. As well as discussing the eclectic roster being put together by the African team, we hear from rider agent Gary McQuaid, who looks after Bob Jungels, Adam Yates, Jai Hindley and others, and from one rider who's been left high and dry, James Shaw. Shaw spent two years with Lotto-Soudal and has been trying to get back into the World Tour but is finding it tough. Still just 24, he feels he has a lot to offer and hopes to continue his professional career, but he also has a mortgage to pay and dogs to feed and worries that he is running out of time.  Our supporters The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca (https://www.iwoca.co.uk/?utm_source=google-ads&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=1905711499&ad_group=72226008204&target_id=kwd-42576349472&creative=380272393106&match_type=e&device=c&ad_position=&network=g&feed_item_id=&device_b=desktop&network_b=search&interest_location=&click_location=9046030&keyword=iwoca&device_model=&placement=&placement_cat=&gclid=CjwKCAiA17P9BRB2EiwAMvwNyG7LjjUiFXEIJY-HBSKJfyR50-5sKP0zagY3v2vOS6h34Gkoif7WahoCPsAQAvD_BwE) and Science in Sport For 25% off all your Science in Sport products enter the discount code SISCP25 at scienceinsport.com (http://scienceinsport.com/) This episode is also sponsored by Hello Fresh (https://www.hellofresh.co.uk/) . #96:Trotz Regen gutes Golf spielen
Ineos Grenadiers and Israel Start-Up Nation report cards
In this week’s episode of the Cyclingnews podcast there’s an exclusive interview with Daniel Martin from Israel Start-Up Nation while we also continue our WorldTour report cards with Ineos Grenadiers and ISN under the spotlight.   Ineos won the Giro d’Italia with Tao Geoghegan Hart, bombed at the Tour de France and came second in the Vuelta a Espana. They won 19 races in total and obviously the standout ride was the Giro, where they bounced back from losing Geraint Thomas to win seven stages wins and the maglia rosa.   They were well below their typical best at the Tour, were forced into late line-up changes before seeing Egan Bernal falter in the mountains. There was a stage win for Michal Kwiatkowski but in the build up to the Tour they were off the pace in races like the Dauphine and their Classics campaign was quiet, even by their standards. Over at Israel Start-Up Nation the team won two stages in Grand Tours, courtesy of Daniel Martin and Alex Dowsett. They had nine difference winners in fact, and took fourth overall in the Vuelta and while the caliber of their wins wasn’t huge – only two were at WorldTour – the team showed signs of promise and progress.   We analyse both teams’ seasons, before Procycling’s Edward Pickering, who used to be a teacher, hands out grades for each team.   The Cyclingnews Podcast is brought to you by Sportful and Pinarello. Series 2 - Ep16 - Skip Novak Part 2
The worlds of offshore sailing and unbridled adventure meet head to head in this month's edition of Shirley Robertson's Sailing Podcast, as the two time Olympic gold medallist talks face to face with legendary American Whitbread skipper and off the grid sailing expedition pioneer Skip Novak. Today, Novak is known throughout the sailing world as the go to man for sailing led polar exploration.  For over three decades he has been running his famous "Pelagic' exploration yachts and is a man with much to say about his career exploring at high latitude, a passion that first came to him while racing around the planet in his first of four Whitbread Round the World Yacht Races. Part Two of this podcast sees the pair pick up with more Whitbread revelations, including Novak's telling of the tragedy surrounding his 1989 Whitbread campaign as skipper of 'Fazisi', the first ever Soviet team entry into the iconic round the world race, that happened to see the crew racing around the planet while at home, the collapse of the Iron Curtain was bringing in wide sweeping changes to Gorbachev's Soviet Union.   Throughout this edition of the podcast, Novak's accounts of his time spent racing around the planet make for compulsive listening, he's a man that's written many a book about his ocean adventures, and his impressive story telling is on show for all to see here, as he dips into a vast memory bank of over four decades of ocean adventure. The final segment in this edition sees the pair turn to Novak's love of exploration, as he reveals his love of the polar regions, the growth of his expedition operation 'Pelagic' and how he has turned the endeavour into a successful global business.  He discusses what makes the perfect exploration vessel, and reveals how his love of climbing and life in the mountains has dove tailed perfectly with his thirst for polar adventure.

Ep. 61 - Ted King, FKT on the ARHCR
From 2006 to 2015 Ted King was a professional road cycling before switching to gravel where he took 1st at the DK200 in 2016 and 2018. Earlier this month he completed the 1,000+ mile Arkansas High Country Race in first with a time of 4 days, 20 hours, which was good enough to snag the FKT set by Jay Petervary in June of this year. The ARHCR is no walk in the park either. It may be easy to have your guard down when you see that the highest point on the route is only 2,745 ft. elevation, but in the words of friend and route creator Chuck Campbell "The valleys are low and the grade is steep". I got to preview a portion of the route in February and I got a first hand taste of the steepness. The route is littered with sharp grades going both up or down. There is very little flat sections, in most cases you're either going up or down. On Oct. 31st 2020 twenty ultra-endurance cyclist started from Fayetteville, AR. Racers can choose to go either CW or CCW, but regardless of which direction you go there is still 1,037 miles and over 80,000 ft of climbing through the Ozarks and Ouachitas in NW Arkansas. Of the 20 that started only 7 finished, which in itself is a testament to the toughness of this route. This was Ted's first attempt at an ultra endurance bikepacking event. He didn't have much experience bikepacking either, but that didn't stop him from signing up to tackle a very challenging course. Like many of you, I followed his dot closely to see if his wealth of experience in other disciplines of the sport would transfer over, or if the local Andrew Onermaa would be able to keep the crown away from King. In the end Ted would ultimately grit it out to win by beating out all previous FKT's, but for much of the race Andrew was on his heels never taking the pressure off. He recorded a video shortly after scratching that's worth watching. If you want to know how hard it is, this video scratches the surface of what it takes to compete at a high level against one of hell of a professional cyclist. Ted, congrats on your FKT, welcome to bikepacking! I can't wait to see what you set your sites on in the future.
