On this episode of Silver is the New Gold, Karen talks to Friba Rezayee, judoka, human rights activist and the first woman to compete for Afghanistan at the Olympics.
Her journey to the 2004 Athens Olympics was an extraordinary one. From a very young age, she was a feminist, human rights activist and trailblazer. A woman of many firsts, she immigrated to Vancouver BC, Canada 10 years ago, and became the first woman in her family to earn a post-secondary degree.
Friba continues to practice judo, but also works hard to bring education and judo to women and girls in Afghanistan through her organization Women Leaders of Tomorrow, and GOAL – Girls of Afghanistan Lead.
