We've Become Princess Diana Conspiracy Theorists
Hello muffins and welcome to a brand spanking new AWD episode. This week, we pay a quick homage to 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' on its 10 year anniversary, and as Complex crowns it the album of the decade. In short: We miss the old Kanye. Listeners share their own stories of embarrassing stories of love-gone-wrong in your early 20s. Ivanka Trump's former bestie pulled a Natalie and penned a bitchy essay for Vanity Fair - but why do so many (white) women bristle against fully condemning Ivanka? Lena Dunham wrote an essay for Harper's about her struggles with IVF - leading to a rambling discussion from us about the inescapable questions that surround motherhood, work and fertility, and how new technology often leads to more shame and self-hatred for women. Then, it's onto the only topic we ever want to talk about: Princess Diana. The BBC have opened an investigation into whether or not her 1995 Panorama interview was obtained unethically - while a new five-part series 'You're Wrong About' investigates the myths and legends surrounding Princess Di's death. A documentary directed by Lily Allen's Dad (randomly) has turned us into conspiracy theorists - so what's the truth? And why can't we stop talking about it, 20+ years later?  As always, rate, review and subscribe - and we'll see you Saturday. ❤️ Disclaimer: Izzy doesn't really think the royals killed Princess Diana. Please don't @ her. The Day Shanna Realised She Was An Alcoholic
What's the difference between a party girl and an alcoholic? For today's guest, it was about 20 years, a series of traumas, and a large dose of denial. Shanna Whan finally realised she was in serious trouble when she 'came to' in the Emergency Department after being found crumpled and bleeding at the bottom of a flight of stairs.  You see for a long time, like many ''high-functioning'' alcoholics, Shan convinced herself it wasn't a serious problem because she was a successful business woman by day, and didn't drink until ''after five'' ....  Growing up in rural Australia, heavy drinking was a culturally ingrained and glorified rite of passage she embraced wholeheartedly .. to try and fit in. But it wasn’t until her rock bottom in early 2015 that she knew she had to reach out and ask for help and take action, or die young. Fast forward six years, 15,000 volunteer hours, starting over from scratch, endless failures, knockbacks, and opposition - and now Shanna is the founder and CEO of a national charity called Sober In The Country.  This is her story... Big Sister Hotline: Episode 41, Feat. JILL STARK
This week, I’m joined by my good friend JILL STARK to talk about anxiety, lockdown and some of the tools we can use to ground us when we’re feeling fizzy brained. Jill’s first book, “High Sobriety” was about the year she spent sober. She has since become sober again, and we talk about what this means for a person’s mental health and some of the emotional challenges that come with committing to and maintaining sobriety. It gave me a lot to think about in terms of my own relationship to alcohol, and I know it will resonate strongly with listeners! From little sisters, we answer questions about how to get back into dating without losing yourself in a prospective partner; what to do when the person you’ve been developing intimacy with decides to soft ghost you and insist it’s only ‘casual’; and how to react when a close friend becomes ‘the other woman’. The Jenny Jones talk show shooting
In 1995, daytime talk shows like Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones were at the height of their popularity thanks to using a tactic called ‘ambush television’ - getting guests on stage and shocking or embarrassing them for entertainment. There were episodes like ‘Mom, I’ve been sleeping with your boyfriend’ or ‘Remember our one night stand? WELL THIS IS YOUR BABY!’  One episode of Jenny Jones at the time was called ‘Guess your secret crush!’ and in it, a man called Scott Amedure admitted to his friend Jonathan Schmitz that he had a crush on him. Three days later, Scott was dead. Jonathan had murdered him, and he blamed The Jenny Jones Show. Emsolation with Em Rusciano
Emsolation with Em Rusciano
PodcastOne Australia
Chuckabitchalike
Did you know that some people choose a theme when it comes time to dig the Christmas decorations out of storage and deck the halls? Neither did I, but apparently it’s a thing and of course Em is the one who’s made me aware of this fantastical festive festooning fact. This year her theme is...something I would have never considered would be a Christmas decorating starting point, but that’s why we’re here, to celebrate the fact that Em’s seeing in Santa with a “Jason Momoa in a sparkly leotard” theme. You’ll find your confusion will probably dissipate if you check out the added visuals that complete the Christmas theming story on Em’s socials. Theme established, it’s on to Em and Michael talking his new TV show coming to the ABC in 2021, it’s called ‘The Newsreader’. The lead female character is a feisty ethnic woman fighting against the straight white male TV Executives who are trying to make her be something that she’s not. Apparently Michael reckons it’s definitely not based on Em in any way, it’s just not, he’s totes doesn’t know where he got the inspiration though which seems a teensy bit weird. Then we chat about Dan Andrews not running for Federal Politics, which Em and Michael just see as a challenge, it’s a long term goal for them, they’ll probably just need to talk to his wife and get him back on board. We then attempt to calmly express Em’s dismay at an Instagram post from some Melbourne socialite guy, who took time out to share a pic of his new girlfriend, and also shit all over his equally famous former wife in the caption. Em felt it was a misstep for him, she also failed at expressing that calmly, because it really struck a chord with her. There’s also questions about what goes into orchestrating the perfect crying selfie, is it all about the angles? Where should the tear placement be? Can you rock a snot bubble if you capture it in the light beautifully? You know, just normal, stock standard stuff, which then leads to Em confronting Michael on how he never likes any of her photos on Instagram. Basically once Em gently unlatches the restraining bolt on her rage beast, it’s very hard for her to focus, like she’s really distracted, you’ll hear it, so grab your headphones and see if you can pick the moment she let’s it off the chain. It’s been a big week for music statues, with the ARIA Awards going down, and the Grammy nominations going up. Diversity on both fronts is on the rise, but The Weeknd ain’t happy.
