Supporting Twice-Exceptional and Vulnerable Students to Thrive with Aimy McAninly
This week on exceptional education we are joined by Aimy McAninly.
Aimy is an outstanding educator who has been working in Alternative Learning Schools and with the Department of Education implementing their Respectful Relationships initiative. Today she speaks with us about how to best support vulnerable students; including using your own vulnerability to build relationships and empowering students to explore their passions.
She also discusses her new venture in helping to set up the Tombolo Academy, a school that supports Twice-Exceptional students to thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

The Rewards of Working in Special Needs with Will Yates
Welcome back to exceptional education!
We're back after a short break and we're pumped to bring you season two of the podcast.
This season we're focusing on Special Education Needs settings or SEN. We'll be bringing you exceptional educators from the SEN field to discuss why they're so passionate about their work.
Our first guest for the season is the incredible Will Yates, a former Education Support and SEN Consultant with anzuk. Will began his SEN journey while living abroad in the UK and turned his passion into a career in SEN recruitment. He is now combining his love of fitness and helping others by studying to become a personal trainer for those with special needs.
Will's passion is infectious, we know that you'll be inspired by this episode!

Cyber Safety for Students with Sam Macaulay
We're so excited to bring you this week's episode of exceptional.education.
Sam Macaulay from the Cyber Safety Project joins us to discuss his career as a teacher and all things cyber safety.
Sam started his career as an exceptional teacher, teaching at both Laburnum and Old Orchard Primary School, but a terrifying online incident with one of his students sparked a passion to educate both students and parents on cyber safety. He co-founded the Cyber Safety Project, with a mission to empower every young Australian
to self manage their digital safety and wellbeing ​through proactive education.

From CRT to Assistant Principal - In Conversation with Andrew Wood
We're thrilled to have Andrew Wood as our in conversation guest this week on exceptional.education. Andrew is currently the AP at Auburn Primary School and shares his incredible journey with us today. From starting a teaching apprenticeship at the age of 18 in his home country of New Zealand, to working as a casual relief teacher in Melbourne, to now working as the AP at Auburn Primary, Andrew has some really fascinating insights into what makes a good teacher and leader.
He is also passionate about Indigenous education, having utilised his upbringing in Maori culture to bring a Maori perspective to the classes he taught while in NZ.

How to Develop Rapport with Students
This week's episode delves into the art of relationship building with students. We're joined by the exceptional Meg, head of year 7 at an all girl's school in Melbourne. She discusses the importance of developing rapport with each of her students and how it helps all areas of the student's wellbeing and learning outcomes.
It's the simple things, like remembering each student's name, caring about their personal issues and being a friendly face that helps build that mutual respect between student and teacher, setting them up for a successful time in school.

Student Mental Health - Give Every Student a Voice That Is Heard

This week we have two very special guests. Julian and Ian Fagan are twins from New South Wales who have developed a software set to revolutionise the way we handle student wellbeing and mental health: Skodel.
They join me to discuss how Ian's previous mental health issues inspired them to create the software, and how Skodel is aiming strengthen student-teacher relationships through the simple act of checking-in.
