Toyota's WRC future without Tommi Mäkinen
43 min

This week's big news is the impending departure of Tommi Mäkinen from the Toyota WRC team he helped build since 2015, after the parent brand bought its WRC operations from Mäkinen's TMR preparation firm. What does that mean for Toyota and for Mäkinen? DirtFish's voice of rally Colin Clark and Senior Staff Writer David Evans discuss the ramifications.

Long Drives, Long Gearing — The Carmudgeon Show — Ep. 39
Jason and Derek took a road trip in a Corolla and the car wasn’t great. Then they took one in an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and it *was* great. Jason also installed a factory retrofit digital instrument cluster for his Lotus Elise, as well as a modification from 034Motorsport which allowed him to achieve 1.07g of lateral acceleration from...his e-Golf!? Derek responds to a listener’s question about the difference between the Mercedes 400E and 500E, which starts a discussion about gearing and how it can make or break a car. Jason always prefers shorter gearing except for in one car. He also offers his typical insight into why a lot of manufacturers purposefully employ long gearing today, particularly 3rd gear, to meet drive by noise regulations. Jason then laments the long gearing in the Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder before unceremoniously declaring it possibly the finest sports car of all time. The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter. ISSIMI is an enthusiast-owned, full-service specialist offering sales, consignment, collection management, service, and consulting to discerning enthusiasts and collectors. Specializing in complex transactions that include international services for exceptional cars, ISSIMI’s San Francisco Bay Area and Europe-based teams of experts pride themselves on transparency and knowledge. Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 250 million views on YouTube alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with. Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them.   Don't forget to visit: ISSIMI Instagram: ISSIMI Facebook: Podcast available on Support the show (

Front End Chatter #127
Hello and welcome to Front End Chatter Episode 127, the slightly behind the curve episode, with Martin Fitz-Gibbons and Simon Hargreaves waffling along as usual – supported and enhanced by Bennetts, the bike insurance specialists, and, the home of all things two-wheeled and powered by an engine, internally combustible or electric or, indeed, propelled by little more than an inappropriate fragrant emission. And on the show this week we have: * a new MotoGP World Champeen, and a slightly subdued Portimao ending to the craziest, least predictable and – let’s be honest – luckiest MotoGP season in modern history • the best Joan Mir stat you will ever hear * new bikes for 2021, including: – BMW’s S1000R, the bike with the wrong half of the fairing removed – Ducati’s Multistrada V4 which Simon hadn’t ridden, much, when the podcast came out, but which it subsequently turns out he had. It’s very confusing – Ducati’s underrated SuperSport, now called a 950 – ...and the Panigale V4 SP, whatever that is – Triumph 850 Sport, and how it replaces the world’s shortest-lived model, the Triumph Tiger 900 – Yamaha MT-09 Tracer and GT – Yamaha’s track-only R6, and the death of the supersports 600 * PLUS! A brief dip into the FECsack and topics such as do track days matter when you’re over 50, is a Z900 RS Café better than a Z H2, tyre scrubbers, how come more people don’t commute on bikes, and much – a bit – more... Many thanks to Bennetts and Bike Social for their continued patronage, and many thanks to you, dear listener, for lending us your ears... and please keep sending your thoughts, musings and life stories to us here: You can get us on the Socials: @SimonHbikes @Mufga Cheers ma dears.
