Allison and Gaby try to help a listener who fears her partner isn't able to provide her the emotional support she needs. They're then joined by writer and cartoonist Ellen Forney to discuss her experience writing about and living with Bipolar I. And finally, exercise! How can we reframe it as something that nurtures our mind and body vs. a way to change how our bodies look? (tw: addiction, crime, weight, suicide)

Does This Episode Need Its Own Royal Title? with Emerald Fennell
We love going off script for Getting Curious, but we’re staying on it with this week’s guest: the Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated writer, director, actress, and author Emerald Fennell. She and Jonathan discuss her latest project and directorial feature film debut PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, her role as Camilla Parker Bowles on THE CROWN, and so much more.   PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, nominated for three Golden Globe awards, is a comedy thriller that centers on a woman, played by Carey Mulligan, who is traumatized by an event in her past and sets out for revenge. There are a few spoilers in the first segment of this episode, but we’ll give you a heads up before each one. And the film, released by Focus Features, is available on demand, so if you want to see it before listening to the episode, we’ll see you back here in 1 hour and 54 minutes. Finally, because this film addresses sexual assault, we want to be clear that we’ll be discussing this topic and, more generally, representations of trauma in popular culture, during this part of the episode.   You can follow Emerald on Twitter @EmeraldFennell.   Find out what today’s guest and former guests are up to by following us on Instagram and Twitter @CuriousWithJVN.  Transcripts for each episode are available at JonathanVanNess.com. Check out all new Getting Curious merch at PodSwag.com. Listen to more music from Quiñ by heading over to TheQuinCat.com. Jonathan is on Instagram and Twitter @JVN and @Jonathan.Vanness on Facebook.

Ellie Brigida and Leigh Holmes Foster
413: Twenty Twen-TV
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) dig through the dumpster fire that was 2020 to find every gay silver lining they can. So much LGBTQ content was thrown our way in the last year and we are so here for it. We discuss The L Word: Generation Q and how even in a reboot the L Word continues to show only toxic and hyper-sexualized queer relationships. We sift through the queer TV and movies and pick out the good from the bad in representation. We discuss the issues with constantly seeing cheating, poorly redeemed characters (*cough* Catra), unhealthy relationships (looking at you Villaneve), and poorly done coming out stories (Harper, why?). We also dive into the more positive representation like The Haunting of Bly Manor, Schitt’s Creek, Teenage Bounty Hunters, and The Wilds. We talk about the many period pieces given to us (do filmmakers think that lesbians only existed in the 1800s?). We also talk about The Prom and how good it could have been if it was actually about lesbians instead of focused on Meryl Streep. If it was queer in 2020, we probably talked about it. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode. Leigh Holmes Foster (@lshfoster) and Ellie Brigida (@elliebrigida). E80 Calling Ourselves Out
It’s Black History Month and we have decided to celebrate by doing some critical self-reflection about our performative activism surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement last summer. Since then, we have put in the work to further educate ourselves about the white supremacist society that we were raised in, how it affects us presently, and what we can do better to combat it. We discuss our own faults, and pledge to be more conscious beings who are radically honest with ourselves about our privileges and shortcomings. We are always learning and growing, and open to critique.  Here are some of our favorite black creators/tv shows/resources to check out!
