Play • 55 min

I’m delighted to welcome back Professor Robert Thomas to the show.

You may remember we spoke with Prof Robert previously on one of our earlier episodes and I’m thrilled that he could join me again.

Professor Robert Thomas is a Consultant Oncologist at Bedford and Addenbrooke’s Hospitals, a clinical teacher at Cambridge University and visiting Professor of Sports and nutritional science at the University of Bedfordshire.

In addition - he is lead of a Lifestyle and Cancer Research Unit and is also medical advisor to the website Cancernet.co.uk. Through his amazing work - Prof Robert Thomas has previously been awarded The British Oncology Association’s “Oncologist of the Year” and The Royal College of Radiologist medal.

On the show today we talk about:

  • Professor Roberts current experience of COVID on the ward as a consultant
  • His latest trial using food supplements and probiotics as an addition to conventional treatment
  • The formulation of the product with industry and the issues it may pose
  • His experience of conducting the research and comparing that to the POMI-T trials
  • Why lifestyle modification and prevention of comorbidities has to be the foundation rather than supplements alone

Ordinary Vegan Podcast #96-Vegan Swaps & Recipes for Animal Products
Are you thinking of adding more plants to your diet in 2021? Today's podcast shares some easy vegan swaps to ease the transition. Finding substitutions for animal products is perhaps the most difficult part of vegan cooking. But it can also be the healthiest thing you can do. For example, when you switch one tablespoon of aquafaba for one egg, you cut out 5 grams of fat and 75 calories. So if you are looking for equally delicious and healthy vegan swaps, look no further. Podcast #96 will introduce you to many vegan swaps and recipes along with: * Healthy Eating Checklist * Oil Substitutes * Best Vegan Banana Bread: Oil-Free & Super Moist * Whipped Cream and Meringue * Egg Replacements * Quick Black Bean Veggie Burgers (recipe below) * The Best Vegan Binding Agents * Cream and Sauce Substitutes * Sunflower Pasta Alfredo Sauce (recipe below) * Gelatin Precautions I hope today's simple vegan swaps helps your transition to a plant-based diet. For recipes and inspiration, please follow me on Instagram and Facebook. You can purchase my vegan, organic line of CBD products from hemp on my website. The National Institutes of Health released a study that "revealed very high rates of clinically significant insomnia along with more stress, anxiety, and depression since the Covid-19 pandemic." All-natural CBD from hemp can enhance the serotonin receptors. Low serotonin levels are commonly associated with people who have depression and anxiety. Anxiety is a key factor behind insomnia. I hope my CBD can help you get a good night's sleep. Additionally, you can find my cookbook "The Easy 5 Ingredient Vegan Cookbook" HERE. I would also like to thank Forager for sponsoring this podcast. Don't forget to go to Foragerproject.com/cultivatehealth for your FREE cup of yogurt. Please stay safe and stay well.

In *Episode #119* I sit down with *Dr Jonathan Foley*, one of the worlds most highly regarded Climate and Environmental Scientist's. Jonathan has published over 130 peer reviewed papers in the the field of sustainability in highly prestigious journals such as _Science_ and _Nature_. He is also an author, a highly sought after guest speaker and is the Executive Director at Project Drawdown, a not-for-profit organisation which is widely considered as the worlds leading resource for information on climate solutions. And of course, share it to any friends or family members who you think may benefit from hearing from Dr Foley. *Resources:* * Project Drawdown * Jonathan's Bio * Jonathan on twitter * Jonathon's blog 'Beef rules' * Jonathan's blog on seeing Climate change as a game of Chess * Confused about holistic grazing and whether grass-fed beef is a real climate solution? Gabby Logan on Midlife Wellness, Power Moves + the Perimenopause
Few people embody a positive, powerful and balanced approach to living well during midlife quite like broadcaster and host of the Midpoint podcast, Gabby Logan. At 47, the mum-of-two feels as good as she did in her 30s, and is passionate about women her age - and older - truly owning their place on TV. As she’s very much doing right now, hosting the BBC’s coverage of the Six Nations. The way she sees it, she’s become more experienced, more skilled in those intervening years - and, as you’ll find out, she’s really fine-tuned the way she maintains her health and wellness too. You’ll hear about her fitness regimen, what it’s been like parenting in a pandemic and why it’s really important to her to prioritise her gut health. But what really sets this conversation apart is how open Gabby is about less well-trodden ground, including how she’s taking HRT since learning she’d entered the perimenopause and why the alcoholism that runs in her family has made her extremely mindful when it comes to drinking. Expect inspiration aplenty from this conversation - no matter what age and stage you’re at. S3, Ep20: Anti-Poaching & Female Empowerment, with Damien Mander, the Vegan Ranger
This season of The ChickPeeps is brought to you by our friends at Vivo Life! Use our code 'chickpeeps10' to get 10% off your order at vivolife.com. This week on the show we’re talking to the founder of the International Anti-Poaching Foundation, Damien Mander. Damien is a former Special Operations sniper who traveled to Africa in 2009, after leaving the military, in search of a new adventure. Instead he discovered “a purpose amongst chaos” when he saw the body of an enormous bull elephant that had been brutally killed for his tusks. In that moment, Damien’s life changed forever and our movement gained a powerful, passionate and highly skilled animal advocate. In this interview Damien talks to Robbie and Evy about his vegan journey, founding the IAPF and about Akashinga, Africa’s first armed, plant-based, all-women anti-poaching unit. We conducted this interview while Damien was at one of the IAPF reserves in Kenya. The sounds you can hear in the background of our conversation are the authentic noises of the Kenyan wildlife at night! Also in this episode… * Damien identifies going vegan as the single most important thing he’s done with his life. * In pursuit of adventure, Damien talks about his initial motivation to visit Africa, having heard about the anti-poaching world years earlier. * “These guys are defending the heart and lungs of the planet.” - Damien talks about seeing the work of rangers for the first time, and how it made him see past his ego to reevaluate his life and the kind of person he wanted to be. * “Having hunted [animals] before Iraq, I never hunted after Iraq because I knew what it was like to be hunted” - Damien talks about how his perspective on animals was radically shifted by his experiences serving twelve tours in Iraq. * How the world of anti-poaching gave Damien a purpose that had previously eluded him. * Damien shares how he repurposed his skills as a sniper in the army to set up the International Anti-Poaching Foundation. * We learn about Akashinga, Africa’s first plant-based all-female anti-poaching unit and Damien shares why he believes women are innately predisposed to be able to protect wildlife and de-escalate conflict. * “The women are survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, AIDs orphans, single mothers, abandoned wives and when we set this up we thought, ‘lets give an opportunity to some of the most marginalized women, in the toughest positions’ - what we didn’t realise is we were getting the hardest women there were” - on the all female Akashinga rangers. * “There’s two types of conservationists. Vegans… and those that don’t like to take their work home” - Damien pulls no punches when talking about his stance on veganism as a conservationist. * Damien has a fresh definition of the alpha male.
