191: Thanyia Moore on bullying, comedy, and Cabbage Patch Dolls
Play • 46 min

Our guest for this episode is the hilarious comedian, actor, and writer, Thanyia Moore!

We reminisce about the bad old days, when we were all on the open mic comedy circuit together. There's some chat about how different audiences can be, and the issues around race and gender that still exist in comedy today.

Thanyia shares her experience of being a school bully, and tells us what happened when she apologised to the people she was mean to in adulthood. We discuss what causes bullying, what she wishes the adults around her had done differently, and why she thinks it's time for a shift in focus in the way we deal with bullies.

And finally, we nearly come to blows over the subject of Cabbage Patch Dolls, before Thanyia entertains us with some brilliant Scummy Auntie Confessions.

Hoovering - Episode 154: Deborah Frances-White RETURNS
Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering. The Hoovering podcast turns 3! Almost exactly today. Now - there’s obviously the big official third birthday dinner party episode just been recorded too, but initially that’s just for some patrons - but I didn’t want to leave the landmark unflagged -so what better way to celebrate in these strangely distant times to re-hoover, hoover again, with my first EVER guest from three years ago - the queen of feminism, the always majestic Deborah Frances-White.  Everything written below in CAPITALS is a link to the relevant webpage.  Honourable Mentions/ Links Deborah’s an advocate for the amazing REFUGEE COMMUNITY KITCHEN who are desperately seeking volunteers to help both in the UK and Calais.  She’s on the socials HERE and if you’re the last person left who hasn’t listened to it, may I introduce you right here, right now to THE GUILTY FEMINIST - Deborah’s frankly world dominating podcast.  I’m on this great site called PATREON where I swap your money for ace podcast related stuff like totally exclusive content and guest recipes. It’ll help me keep the podcast not just alive, but also thriving. Thanks so so so much if you’ve become a patron recently and/ or stuck with me since the beginning of this.  Also - if you’d wanted to donate something as a one-off you can DO THAT HERE on the Acast Supporter page thing.  I got my big beautiful curly cucumber from ODDBOX and if you want one? And you want a massive £10 off your first box so it makes it just a few quid? Then USE THIS LINK MATE MY TOUR IS RESCHEDULED - COME! Well - there’s hope for some of the dates from March or April perhaps? Things we mentioned that you might be interested in from this podcast include… Weird and wonderful (and sometimes awful) popcorn from JOE & SEPHS We piped on about food and drink takeaway places JOE AND THE JUICE, COSTA COFFEE and swankier eateries Lewisham’s SPARROW and north London’s DISHOOM.  Human food MARMITE and cat crack DREAMIES  Bonfire of country and bullshit Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/hoovering.   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
