Mindfulness, Baking and Slowing Down
40 min

Pauline Beaumont – therapist, author, mum of six and passionate baker – outlines the importance of slow, calming, mindful activities for nurturing our mental health. We talk about why balancing the frenetic, technology led parts of our lives with activities that allow us to find more presence, creativity and community is so important, why we need to celebrate life’s imperfections, what simple ingredients like flour and water can teach us about life and how emotional eating plays a role in our everyday.

Trauma Healing Meditation + Understanding The Signs Your Body Is Trying To Show You
Do you remember what it felt like to be a child before the world got to you? There was a time in your life when you were totally present, moving with the rhythms of your natural essence, allowing your being to be exactly as it was. When did that stop? Somewhere along the way, we start to become separate from our bodies. Maybe for you, this shift happened slowly, or maybe something unbearable came your way that forced you to grow up too fast. Did you feel unsafe in your body? Were you convinced your body was not good enough? Most importantly, what coping mechanisms did you learn along the way to shield you from this pain - and how do they show up in your life still today? We all live with various coping mechanisms that we have learned in response to trauma, hardship and pain, and they played a crucial role in our development. When we were younger these learned behaviors kept us safe, they protected our nervous system, they tucked away our worries and fears so we could deal with them at a later time. That time is now. If you are experiencing the same patterns over and over again, if you check out, if you dissociate - it is likely happening because you are being triggered by something that reminds you of the real pain from your past. The difference now is that you finally have the tools to heal and process. The universe may be hitting you on the head with the same problems over and over again, and that means it is time to find the underlying causes and to truly let them go. We often think healing takes a grand gesture - a trip to a mountaintop or an intense yoga retreat on the beach. But the first moment of healing happens when you realize you’ve left yourself, and you bring yourself back. That first moment of awareness is all it takes. Over time, you leave yourself less and less. In today’s episode, Rachel shares her own recent and personal experience of physically letting go. It’s hard, it hurts - but when you heal now you heal what was then. At the end of today’s episode, Rachel shares some valuable journaling prompts so you can dive into an actionable practice on your healing journey. Radical Belonging with Lindo Bacon
In this episode, Mary is joined by Dr. Lindo Bacon who discusses finding their true self to gain a better sense of belonging and creating a safe space for others to feel fully accepted as they are. Dr. Bacon also talks about what it means to challenge ideas around social identities. In this episode, you will learn about: * How everything we’re taught in mainstream culture with regards to our bodies and image is     predicated on a lie, not science. * Owning our personal stories and finding out what makes us unique. * How to open up to other people’s uniqueness. * Cultivate radical belonging in our day to day lives. * and so much more!   Dr. Lindo Bacon’s mission is to create a more just world, where all bodies are valued, respected, and supported. Best known for their paradigm-shifting research and advocacy upending the weight discourse, Bacon’s inspiring message takes us beyond size, to shaping a culture of empathy, equity and true belonging. Dr. Bacon has mined their deep academic proficiency, wide-ranging clinical expertise and own personal experience to write two best-selling books, Health at Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight, and the co-authored Body Respect: What Conventional Health Books Get Wrong, Leave Out, or Just Plain Fail to Understand about Weight. Both are credited with transforming the weight discourse and inspiring the course of the body positivity movement. Bacon’s next manifesto, Radical Belonging: How to Survive and Thrive in an Unjust World (while Transforming it For the Better), will be released by BenBella Books in November 10th, 2020, and Bacon is currently spreading this message through public speaking.   You can find Dr. Lindo Bacon on Facebook or Twitter: LindoBaconX or on Instagram @Lindobacon. Bullet Points | How to Make a Habit
There has been a lot of chat in DMs and on email about habits in the last few weeks, so I thought it’d be a good idea to take a look at the ways in which you can feel out whether a habit is right for you. We’ve all had to adjust this year, with varying degrees of restrictions and lockdowns but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to weave new and helpful habits into our new normal. In this episode I share the six strategies that I think can help you make a habit stick or, perhaps more crucially, how to tell if it’s just not for you, including: * Starting small and easing your way into whatever it is you’re trying. * Giving yourself a timeframe. * Attaching your new habit to something you already do and enjoy doing. * Keeping a visual log of your habit as you do them. * How a little accountability can help make a habit take root and give you a sense of satisfaction from day one. * Figuring out what might get in your way before you begin so you can plot a course around, or through, it. As ever, I’d love to know what you think whether that’s in the comments below, on DM or via email. I make this podcast for YOU and if there’s anything you’d like to hear on this subject, or any other, please feel free to let me know.
