Small Market Sadness
On today's episode of Premium Hoops: Small Market Sadness. A podcast bringing together media members/writers of small markets that are wallowing in playoffs fomo. On this pod, we talk way more about Josh Smith than seems reasonable in 2020, but it's a great time. How can these teams move forward? How do small markets build? What directions can small market teams go to hit their ceiling? We also spend a good chunk talking about Victor Oladipo and De'Anthony Melton. Where will Melton and Oladipo be playing next year? Should the Griz let Melton go and will the Pacers pony up for Oladipo? While there is great analysis on this pod, it's mainly just a kick back/have fun pod. Just enjoy the pod! Expect some of these in the future and send us feedback on how you enjoyed this one! We love to do our thing in analysis, but getting loose and talking hoops is our bread and butter. In the podcast, we devote our full time to Milwaukee and outlining what went wrong, how they can fix it, and our own thoughts on their future. Are the Bucks held back by Mike Budenholzer?
After last night's game, the Milwaukee Bucks are now down 0-2 to Miami. I'm joined by Ben Rauman of Behind the Buck Pass to break down and discuss the game and series. Where do the Bucks go from here? To start off, we have the Mike Budenholzer discussion; Is he an 82 game coach? Is that harsh? A little, but for the second straight season, Bud's flaws have shown through in the playoffs. Ben specifically brings up the rotation issues. In the game, Bud went with a 10-man rotation, playing almost every man 10+ minutes and Giannis topped out at 36 minutes. We then take a step back. While the Bucks are down two games, a come back is still within reach and the series is not over! What do the Bucks do now? How do they counter? What improvements might we see in the next game? During the pod, we dive into a great deal more and have some great philosophical debates on the Bucks. Enjoy the pod! NBA Playoffs Roundup: Murray & Mitchell, East 2nd Round
On today's episode of the Premium Hoops Podcast, Mark & Nate break down the current NBA Playoffs match ups. First, we have to talk about Donovan Mitchell and Jamal Murray. They are setting the bubble on fire and ascending to higher levels of play. How will game 7 shape up and who will advance to face the Clippers? Can Mitchell and Murray continue to dazzle? We'll find out tonight. Moving onto the Raptors and Celtics, we dish on Game 1. What went wrong for Toronto, and what went right for Boston? Can the Raptors right the ship and will Pascal Siakam find his shot? Or, will Jayson Tatum and the Celtics continue to stifle him inside the arc? This series has the potential to be the best of the NBA Playoffs. The Bucks dropped game 1 to Miami, are we freaking out yet? We dive into the series and why we think Milwaukee is going to be fine and likely make it out to the Eastern Conference Finals. Will Mike Budenholzer finally shift his defense? Lastly, we talk about the Dallas Mavericks. Although they were just bounced in the first round, we think their future is among the brightest in the league. How will the front office continue to build around Luka and KP? Regardless, expect to see the Mavericks continue to progress and find their way deeper into the postseason in coming years. Dishing on the Denver Nuggets with Adam Mares of DNVR
On today's episode of the Premium Hoops podcast, Adam Mares joins Mark to talk about the Denver Nuggets. What does a Jokic funk look like, where is Jamal Murray at, what direction is the team heading, as well as a dive into DNVR. Adam is the VP of Creative Production at The DNVR, one of the brightest media start ups in the country. He provides insight on what led to DNVR's startup, how they're different, how COVID impacted their business model, and the future of DNVR (It's bright folks!) Denver finished the season 46-27 with the third best record in the West, yet are down 3-1 to Utah. Was this Denver team for real? Adam also sheds light on Nikola Jokic as a leader and his willingness to shoot. Jokic has cemented himself as a top center in the league, but what can he do to cement himself as an MVP-caliber player? We then dive into Jokic and Jamal Murray's defense; how can they find competency on that end and are they compatible at the highest level? Is Jamal Murray able to hang as a point guard and how has he grown this season? Murray is notoriously up and down as a player, but he's been a revelation in the playoffs. Will Nikola Jokic be able to lead this team out of the 3-1 hole? What is next for the Denver Nuggets and will Mike Malone be at the helm when they're a true contender? Finally, Adam & Mark close out by talking about some NBA philosophy; Is Dallas really the best offense all-time? What makes a coach a defensive coach (It's a great debate) and do Nick Nurse and Mike Malone qualify as such? Shout out to Adam Mares for joining the pod! Be sure to go follow him on Twitter as well as the DNVR.

Jimmy Butler was Playing the Long Game: NBA Playoffs Roundup
On today's episode of the Premium Hoops Podcast, Mark & Nate come together to discuss story lines of all sorts. Week one of the NBA playoffs is under way, and the series' are off to a hot start! Technical fouls and foul calls in general have been at the forefront in recent days; Nate & Mark have a mostly intuitive conversation about reffing before jumping into the actual games. They also give a quick injury rundown; Gordon Hayward is out for four weeks, Kristaps Porzingis is now likely to play, and Victor Oladipo is questionable for Thursday's game after sustaining an eye injury. The Buck(s) stops here Nikola Vucevic was electric and put up a dominant game against the championship hopeful Milwaukee Bucks. Gary Clark and James Ennis played really solid defense on the wings and the Magic were able to keep the Bucks off the board late. Will Milwaukee finally figure how to blow up a wall as the series continues? Can the Magic craft a playoffs miracle? Lillard Time & Ice cold Lakers Damian Lillard continues to bombard from deep and the Trailblazers played just enough defense in tandem with abhorrent perimeter shooting from LA to take game 1. Does Anthony Davis have to play the five? Can the Lakers break their nasty shooting slump? How can LA invigorate their bench? Will Damian Lillard ever miss again from the logo? Also, Wenyen Gabriel was solid! Switch off the channel The Houston Rockets switch everything defense caused significant problems for Oklahoma City. Their normally potent mid-range attack was thwarted without space to operate. On the defensive end, the Thunder were killed from the corners and struggled to keep Houston from penetrating the paint. Jeff Green also played an outstanding game and continues to impress as a small-ball five. Where does OKC go on the drawing board? Can Luguentz Dort enter the series and be a game changer? How can Houston keep the ball rolling? Jimmy Butler was playing the long game The Pacers struggled with early foul trouble and lost Victor Oladipo to injury at the end of the first quarter. Miami got it going in the second half behind a crafty Goran Dragic performance along with some staunch point of attack defense by Bam Adebayo. The Heat closed out the game on the back of Jimmy Butler, who apparently has conned us the whole season into believing he was a non-shooter. Can Indy recover & will Oladipo be ok to return? Is Jimmy Butler's shot for real? This series looks to be the most competitive of the first round of the playoffs! 2020 NBA Playoffs First Round Preview: Premium Hoops Round Table
We dive into the first round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs in this episode of the Premium Hoops Podcast. First, we cover some of the news around the league; Jim Boylen's firing as well as Vlade Divac stepping down in Sacramento with Joe Dumars taking over as interim. Why do we keep retreading coaches? Mike Conley is out for likely the first three games of the Nuggets v. Jazz series, as he returned home after the birth of his son. What do we think of the series as a whole? How do we view the ways different teams attacked the bubble and what can we take from team performance in the bubble thus far? Are we worried about the Lakers? Can Portland actually make it a series? Is Oklahoma City and Houston the most exciting first round series? Can the Rockets do it without Russell Westbrook, or will CP3 flex his abilities to wrangle the series? Caris LeVert has been lighting it up for Brooklyn, what does this mean moving forward? Can he wreck some havoc against Toronto and will Pascal Siakam find his shot? Can Luka and Porzingis muddy the waters against the Clippers or will Kawhi and PG run roughshod over the Mavs underwhelming defense? How can Philly stop the Celtics, and can they? Is Boston bringing out the brooms? Will Heat/Pacers be the most competitive and most intriguing first round series? We sure think so! Jimmy Butler vs. T.J. Warren, Duncan Robinson launching threes, Edmond Sumner getting playing time??? Bring it on. We have so many questions going in, but we do know that the 2020 NBA playoffs are going to be a blast and we're all for it!
