Episode 268 - Discussing Tears of the Kingdom’s Rito and Goron Regional Phenomena!
Another week down as we continue to make our way through the mammoth game that is Tears of the Kingdom! This week, we're exploring the Regional Phenomena main quest, with a focus on what's going on in Rito Village in Hebra and Goron City in Death Mountain! Come hear our thoughts how how we thought those quests progressed, what we thought of the dungeons (albeit, a brief synopsis), how Yunobo changed from Breath of the Wild and why we think Nintendo decided to move Teba to the side for Tulin, whether we found the quests fun or not, and our critiques of some of the cutscenes and dungeon names!

Episode 267 - Tears of the Kingdom Impressions: The Surface, The Depths, and The Sky!
We're back with week two of our Tears of the Kingdom initial impressions! This time, we're talking about our thoughts on the Surface and how it differs from Breath of the Wild in places like Hateno and Lurelin, how Lookout Landing is a great introductory town, what some of our old favorite characters are up to, and the extensive cave systems hidden throughout Hyrule. We then shift over to talk about the Depths and how cool they are, some of the things we've found, and how crazy it was Nintendo didn't promote them more in the build up to the game. Lastly, we talk about the Sky, how we typically get up there, the challenges of exploring them, and some of the minigames up there!

Episode 266 - Our Tears of the Kingdom First Impressions!
Welcome to the Tears of the Kingdom era of the Zelda Cast! We spent all weekend pouring every ounce of our being into the game, but for today, we're going to talk about our initial impressions! We go over the opening prologue of the game, detailing our thoughts on the story so far, including the Zonai and the how the opening compares to the initial reveal trailer, what we think of the Great Sky Islands and how it serves as an opening tutorial area, and our thoughts on how all of the new abilities feel, specifically Ultrahand and crafting. All this, PLUS some midnight release stories and other stray thoughts.

Ranking Every Shrine Quest in Breath of the Wild (Part 2) in The Zelda Cast Episode 265!

Episode 263 - Reflecting on the Buildup For Tears of the Kingdom
Alasyn is away for the next couple weeks, so for this episode, Andy orchestrated an Omega Metroid takeover! Omega Metroid Podcasts' Dakota Lasky and Community Manager Lillith join the show today to talk some Zelda in general and Tears of the Kingdom specifically. Episode 262 - Ganondorf Returns in the Final Tears of the Kingdom Trailer! Our Thoughts and Analysis!
WOW! THAT'S what we've been waiting for! In case you've been living under a rock, Nintendo released the third and final trailer for Tears of the Kingdom and it was by far the most exciting trailer shown so far! This week, the gang break down the trailer frame by frame, discussing where (or when) Zelda could have gotten off to, who the mysterious woman with light in her hands could be, the re-imagining of Gleeok and other bosses, if the Zonai in the trailer is the same one from the mural, how sky islands and caves might be connected, some of the new gameplay shots, and of course, THE RETURN OF THE KING OF EVIL, Mr. Hydrated Ganondorf himself!

We finally got a new look at some of the gameplay of Tears of the Kingdom this past week, and we have A LOT to say! Episode 255 - Super Nintendo World First Impressions
Al has taken over the show, and while we continue to wait for more Zelda news, we thought it would be fun to talk about something a little different this week. February has been a big month for Nintendo fans, and that included the grand opening of the highly anticipated Nintendo-themed amusement park, Super Nintendo World! Episode 252 - Tears of the Kingdom Highlights What Might Have Been Nintendo’s Greatest Direct!
Wow. Wowowow. THAT, my friends, was a Nintendo Direct for the ages. Despite Nintendo arguably holding back yet again on Tears of the Kingdom, there was no doubt that the trailer we saw for the game was by far the meatiest one yet. Add in the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance NSO news, with The Minish Cap and Link's Awakening DX being playable RIGHT NOW with the Oracles not far behind it, and there was more Zelda news in this 40 minutes than there has been in seemingly years! Add in Metroid Prime Remastered, Pikmin 4, and more games, and this might have been the greatest Nintendo Direct ever!

Episode 249 - What’s The Best Dungeon In Each Zelda Game?
If you haven't heard, Zelda Dungeon is celebrating its first Dungeon Week since 2018, where the writing staff deep dives into their favorite dungeons in the series and asks compelling questions about the state of dungeons in the series. We thought we would get in on the fun by discussing EVERY Zelda game and what our favorite dungeons from each game are. From some obvious pics (*cough*ForestTemple*cough*) to some real outside the box selections, we're sure that if nothing else, you'll have something to debate after you hear our list!

Episode 243 - Tears of the Kingdom Unsurprisingly, Yet Frustratingly, No-Shows The Game Awards; Our Reactions!
Despite nabbing the Most Anticipated Game award, Tears of the Kingdom was a no-show at this years Game Awards, continuing the bizarre, frustrating, and perplexing pre-release cycle the sequel to Breath of the Wild has been on since its reveal, capping off what may go down as the worst year for The Legend of Zelda in the modern era. If you think that's dramatic, come listen to Andy and Al explain why they hold that opinion, and debate on whether Nintendo's arrogance is showing. On the plus side, the gang review the actual Game Awards show, which all things considered, was pretty good. We talk Earthblade, Hades, Death Stranding 2, the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Crime Boss, and so much more!

With the trailer for the much anticipated Super Mario Bros. Movie finally hitting the airwaves this week, the gang decide what better time than now to go over and pitch what their ideas for a Legend of Zelda movie might look like! We were big fans of the first, so we had really high hopes for this sequel, and for the most part, it delivers! The Champions’ Cast Is Getting A New Name: The Zelda Cast!
To everyone that's been following the Zelda Dungeon podcast for the last four an a half years, we've got some news for you: the podcast will be undergoing a name change! Four and a half years ago when I decided I wanted to revive the Zelda Informer Podcast (that's going waaay back!), the hip and happening thing in the Zelda world was The Champions' Ballad, the last piece of downloadable content for Breath of the Wild. Wanting to play on that name, The Champions' Cast was born! For over four years, we've podcasted weekly about all things Zelda, from Breath of the Wild to Ocarina of Time to Wand of Gamelon to Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland to literally anything even kind of associated with The Legend of Zelda. With that in mind, we thought it was fitting that with the upcoming Breath of the Wild 2 around the corner, we establish a name that better represents what our show is all about: The Zelda Cast!

You know how much we love us a good Zelda-like game, and with Breath of the Wild 2 being delayed, there was no better time for arguably the greatest ever Zelda-like game to grace our consoles: Tunic! The cute adventure of a little fox on a lonely island wears its inspiration on its sleeve and offers an incredibly dense, challenging, fun, at times obtuse, nostalgic adventure all at the same time. The gang are joined by Rod Lloyd, who penned the official Zelda Dungeon review of Tunic, to discuss anything and everything about the game!

A good or bad gimmick can elevate or detract from a game, and the Zelda series is unique in that every single game has a distinct, unique gimmick associated with it that makes them ripe for examination! This week, we're diving in and discussing what's worked and what needed improvement over the years with Zelda gimmicks; Dual worlds are a favorite staple, but maybe stylus or motion controls weren't for everybody. Transforming via masks was likewise awesome, so why did transforming into a wolf fall flat? Episode 204 - Definitively Ranking Ocarina of Time
Definitive Ranking returns for the first time since summer 2021, this time examining arguably not only the greatest Zelda game, but the greatest game period - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! We're taking a look at the classic 10 categories that make up any great Zelda game - the controls, the dungeons, the story, the music, etc. - and ranking them on a scale of 1-5. Come play along as we shower this game with deserved praise and reminisce about the characters, the side quests, the memories, the legacy, and the foundation that Ocarina of Time laid out, while also examining how it holds up in 2022.

Episode 201 - Reviewing the Breath-of-the-Wild-Inspired Pokémon Legends: Arceus!
And now, time for something a little different! We’re transforming the show into the Pokémon Cast this week, as we give our thoughts and in depth review of the new open world, Breath-of-the-Wild-esque Pokémon adventure Pokémon Legends Arceus! We go over how the new open world format feels, the new mechanics used to catch Pokémon, and how the game is the perfect blend of classic games, Pokémon Go, and Breath of the Wild! We also discuss the games music, weight in on the graphics debate, offer some criticisms about the story, look at how side quests could be improved, and give our two cents on the new Hisuian forms for some classic ‘mon!

Episode 199 - Breath of the Wild 2 No-Shows an Otherwise Terrific Nintendo Direct
We finally got a Nintendo Direct, and while it was mostly awesome, the absence of Breath of the Wild 2 loomed large over the proceedings. We break down what exactly we think is going on with that game and when we think it will be fully revealed, and then spend some time breaking down the rest of the games shown off. Splatoon 3, Triangle Strategy, Advance Wars all look awesome, and the new titles revealed like Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Fire Emblem Warriors 2, and Nintendo Switch Sports also look really promising. Throw in a free update for Metroid Dread and DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and we had a mostly good time!

Episode 195 - Princess Mononoke and its Influence on Breath of the Wild
We're back for another week with a very special episode, one that we've been looking forward to for a while: analyzing the world, characters, and themes of Studio Ghibli's 1997 masterpiece Princess Mononoke and seeing how that movie made a lasting impressing on the Zelda series, and Breath of the Wild in particular. We compare Link and Ashitaka, Zelda and San, Lady Eboshi and the citizens of Irontown to the fabled Sheikah clan, analyze the similar themes of nature versus technology, and even look to the plot of Princess Mononoke to deduce where we might be headed in Breath of the Wild 2.

The second batch of DLC for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, called Guardian of Remembrance, dropped last month, promising new vignettes, playable characters, stages, abilities, and more. Imagine if certain things had turned out differently in the history of Zelda, if just a couple changes had been made in the "real world timeline", how different the Zelda series might look today? Hard to believe it's been 20 years since the Oracle games first graced our Game Boy Color's, but today, we are here to honor the puzzle focused Oracle adventure. We recently undertook a mammoth task here at the site and polled 30 different staff members to gauge their favorite dungeons in the Zelda series. We then took all that data and made one overall list, with the dungeons that finished highest on most peoples lists getting pints that determined their placement on our master list. We finally revealed all 50 dungeons on that list, and the gang are here to give you their thoughts on the placements and what dungeons were the biggest snubs.

Episode 109 - Pitching a Final Fantasy VII Style Remake of Ocarina of Time
So a couple weeks ago on my other podcast Virtual Theater, I was telling Gooey that I wouldn't buy the recently released Final Fantasy VII Remake because it was a remake of only the first 5-10% of the game. I even said "that would be like remaking Ocarina of Time and only having the entire game take place in Kokiri Forest!". Fast forward to now, and I caved and bought FFVIIR, really enjoyed it, and felt like it offered a complete experience. So in order to not have to eat a bunch of crow, I came up with an Ocarina of Time Remake game of my own... set entirely in Kokiri Forest!

I just finished playing a solo run of this game for the first time and have lots of thoughts - how is it solo compared to multiplayer? Is it a pain to set up? How does one player control four Link's? Episode 57 - Breath of the Wild's VR and Casting Zelda Characters as The Avengers!
After (un)comfortably deep diving into Tingle’s Rosey Rupeeland last week, Andy decided to briefly escape the country, so Taylor sets out to find Kevin to help him discuss today’s topics. Breath of the Wild has continued its inexorable ride with a VR element using Nintendo Labo while Kevin and Taylor debate whether VR is a good idea.
