The practice of gentrification often displaces families with lower incomes from their homes and communities and replaces them with more affluent residents. The bitter cycle of gentrification has off-ramps that lead to widening racial wealth gaps and pricing people out of the communities they and their families may have lived in for decades. Maxica Williams has a front-row seat to witnessing her Chicago, Illinois community become increasingly more gentrified.
