251: How Feeling Your Emotions Can Change Your Relationship with Graham Chalfant
Everyone wants connection — we’re hardwired for it as humans! But we can only connect as deeply with others as we’ve connected with ourselves. Strong relationships start by going within, feeling our emotions and being willing to open up and share with our partners. On this week’s podcast, I have a very, very special guest...my husband! We’re talking with you today together and sharing some very personal details about our marriage and how feeling emotions has changed our relationship for the better. Graham comes from a background where emotions weren’t expressed, and I come from an Italian family that was very expressive. For so many years, we both saw the other as not emotional enough or too emotional. Learning to feel, honor and share our emotions has deepened our connection so much and been so transformational for us. In this episode, Graham shares what helped him learn to process his emotions, how that’s changed his response to different situations and the changes we’ve both seen in our relationship. Listen to discover: * How relationships can help us overcome childhood issues when we approach them with consciousness * The importance of raw, open communication in a relationship * Somatic processing and the power of feeling emotions in the body * Navigating anger and stress in a relationship * How feeling emotions deepens intimacy (both emotional and physical) By the way, Graham did all of this work on his own (no bonus points for having a spouse who is a therapist and coach!). Which means YOU can do this too! We’re all born with the ability to feel our emotions, but we have to tune in with intention instead of running away from them. When we do, we’ll find they stop coming out sideways and are instead an invitation into deeper connection with others. “When we engage in a relationship with another human being, our childhood issues are going to rear up. That person is here to help us work through those childhood issues.” - Michelle Chalfant “Once our youngest child left the house, then it all slowed down and it became more apparent to me that I needed to figure out this ‘feeling’ thing.” - Graham Chalfant “I learned I could just sit with it and in 30 seconds, that heaviness would literally melt away.” - Graham Chalfant “Everybody has the ability to feel emotions. At some point along our life journey, we turn them off and turn them down.” - Michelle Chalfant “When you feel an emotion without building a story around it, the emotion goes through you in 90 seconds.” - Michelle Chalfant Resources Episode #42: Inviting Your Relationship into The Adult Chair with Michelle and Graham Chalfant https://theadultchair.com/podcasts/42-inviting-your-relationship-into-the-adult-chair-with-michelle-and-graham-chalfant/ Episode #49: Am I Fraud? Healing the Mother Wound • 169
We will learn: What the mother wound is and what keeps it in place How to develop boundaries even if we never enforced them before How to heal by learning how to mother yourself Why is it that mother daughter relationships can be so complicated? Whether you had the worst mother daughter relationship or the typical conflicts, we all have these mother wounds, some just deeper than others. So the question becomes “how do  you let go?” How do you heal? That’s what we’re talking about today.  Our guest Bethany Webster. In 2013 she published an article entitled “Why it’s Crucial for Women to Heal the Mother Wound” based on a body of work she had been developing for 15 years. And overnight, the article went viral. Women around the world shared it on social media,  they discussed it with their friends, and it was referenced in new blogs and podcasts.  Before, thought leaders like Adrienne Rich and Christiane Northrup had touched on the concept of a Mother Wound, but no one had yet fleshed out exactly what the Mother Wound is and why it remains a universal experience of women the world over.  So Bethany made it her mission to really understand and define the Mother Wound and why and how it manifests. Jordan Younger
Ep 224 ft. Lily Ashwell: Intuitive Astrology, Lyme Healing, & Our Heavenly Bodies
Lily Ashwell is an intuitive astrologer, artist, healer, and a dear friend of Jordan’s. She is a fellow Lyme warrior who has been by Jordan’s side through much of their healing journeys. She created her Heavenly Bodies intuitive astrology deck in the thick of her darkest times with Lyme disease, after walking away from her past career as a fashion designer and shop owner (many of you in Los Angeles will remember her beautiful shop in Venice). As she so eloquently describes in the episode, her deck became a vehicle to channel her purest form of self, and that emotional density is so present once you touch her beautiful card deck. Her ethereal aesthetic resonates with Jordan so deeply. We reflect on our medicinal mission to heal and the spiritual awakenings we both shared during our intense water fast retreat when we solidified our friendship. She also talks about her positive experience with Bee Venom therapy and how she’s learned to see the gifts of her chronic illness.  We love how Lily has harnessed powerful lessons from her dark night of the soul into something so poetic and beautiful. Her brave decision to leave a relationship and job no longer serving her, and throw her heart into this beautiful project is such an inspiration for those struggling to find their purpose. She’s a self-taught ‘astrology school dropout,’ but lives and breathes this energy so effortlessly — astrology is literally etched in her face! This episode will definitely pique your curiosity for the cosmos. You’ll learn so much about the significance of your Saturn Return, the moon/sun signs, and the different Houses. Her readings are spot on and I’m so excited for you all to get to know her and her brand, Heavenly Bodies, and watch her evolve in the spiritual space. To celebrate Lily’s beautiful journey, we’re offering a giveaway of her astrology deck.  To enter: Rate and review this podcast on iTunes and email me a screenshot at jordan@thebalancedblonde.com Follow https://www.instagram.com/lilyashwell/?hl=en (@lilyashwell)  + https://www.instagram.com/tbbpodcast/?hl=en (@tbbpodcast) on Instagram Thanks to https://drinkolipop.com/ (Olipop) for sponsoring this episode. This is your host, Neil Sattin. We are fortunate to be having a return visit from my friend and colleague Logan Ury, a Harvard-trained behavioral scientist turned Dating Coach, whose new book “How to Not Die Alone: The surprising Science that will help you find love” is FINALLY available. Yes, go order it now. Or, well, listen to what she has to say - then go order the book. Logan is also the Director of Relationship Science for the dating app Hinge. And, as you’ll hear today - she knows her shit. See, we are making choices all the time, and those choices impact the kinds of relationships we do (or don’t) have. Logan’s work does such a good job of pointing out the ways that our decision-making can actually get in the way of having a fulfilling love life. You may recall that she was here back in episode 231 - if you want to listen to that episode you can visit neilsattin.com/logan. And, for today’s episode, if you want to download a transcript just visit neilsattin.com/logan2 (that’s logan and the number 2) - or, as always, you can text the word “PASSION” to the number 33444 and follow the instructions. Let’s dive in. Logan Ury - so glad to have you back with us here on Relationship Alive. Logan Ury: Thank you, Neil. It's always fun to talk to you, whether it's for the podcast or just through our friendship, and I'm so grateful that you invited me back on the show. Neil Sattin: Let's start with this question of how you get prepared to go out into the dating world? Because as I was mentioning in the intro, so much of what we do in the choices that we make are just sort of based on what the world throws our way in terms of who we meet, or who we swipe right on and who swipes right back. And I'm curious to know if you have a basic idea of how we can prepare ourselves without getting caught in trying to be over-prepared, like one of... We talked about the three tendencies in our last conversation, and you talked about hesitaters, and their tendency might be to be over-prepared. So, what kind of preparation is actually necessary for being successful in modern dating? Logan Ury: Yeah, I'm glad that we're starting the conversation here because this is where I would start the conversation with the new dating coaching client... Ep. 404 - Receiving: How Productivity Keeps Us From the Life We Want
Almost 30 has gone through a lot of growth lately! We launched our membership, did a complete rebrand, and built out entirely new systems. And as that all settled, Krista’s first thought was: What’s next? But it is so, SO important that we make time and space to receive from all of the hard work that we put in. We can get so caught up in the manifesting and the goal-setting that we forget to actually enjoy the fruits of our labor. Receiving and expressing gratitude are huge parts of manifesting, and we have to be able to receive all the things we’re striving for. We talk about: The focus in our culture on productivity - and how we can get out of it How to work on your unconscious beliefs to support your ability to receive  Understanding the importance of receiving How to feel what it feels like receiving in your body Being present and paying attention to your life and why it’s important Find more to love at http://almost30.com/ (almost30.com)!
