I’m so excited to share my conversation with Jamia Ponder from The Mrs. Beside podcast, because we are getting real about raising kids, ways we can address all that is going on in the world, and the need to rediscover yourself after becoming a mother. Jamia is the friend that will always give it to you straight, and her no nonsense approach is what every mother needs to hear!

This is an episode you won’t want to miss!

What we’re talking about

  • There’s No Instruction Manual For Motherhood
  • It’s OK To Put Yourself First
  • How To Talk About Your Beliefs As An Influencer

There’s No Instruction Manual For Motherhood

Becoming a parent doesn’t come with a set of instructions when your tiny humans are born. We wing it and take things one day at a time. But what do we do when we encounter a topic we aren’t sure how to address? We turn to others that have been down the path before us. Jamia and I talk about raising our children, specifically our sons as anti-racist, and how we are addressing what is going on in the world today with our kids. Behavior and racism starts at home, and is learned through the jokes we tell, the way we treat others, and the way we talk to them. Some of these tough discussions may be a bit uncomfortable, but they are deeply necessary.

It’s OK To Put Yourself First

As a mom with kids on your heels 24/7, it’s easy to lose yourself in the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. So how do you keep your sanity intact and preserve a small amount of time to just be you? We’re discussing ways to approach this with your spouse and family, because they’re following our lead. To be our best for others, we need to tend to ourselves!

How To Talk About Your Beliefs As An Influencer

I shared with Jamia that I wasn’t sure how to properly integrate my beliefs on anti-racism in my content and that it weighed heavily on me since it hadn’t been a topic I have openly spoken about prior to our current events. Jamia shared her views of me as a coach and mentor and ways she felt I could use my platform to not only share my beliefs, but also the resources I have found to be helpful as a white ally.

How are you going to put yourself back on the to-do list?
