Andy Gale is the founder, executive director, and president of the board of Bay Area Recycling for Community (BARC). BARC is a non-profit organization that aims to keep things out of the landfill by filling in the gaps where the community may not have the ability to recycle something. Andy hopes that someday someone will put BARC out of business because everyone else in the community is getting it done. The main question people ask Andy is what they recycle, and he answers that they recycle everything. In this conversation, Andy explains that their organization fills in the gaps where the community might not have the ability to recycle certain items such as couches or construction materials. Their goal is to eventually not be needed anymore if everyone else in the community is getting it done. Andy also discusses the experimental process of recycling and finding downstream markets to take recycled items. Ryan asks about the typical questions Andy receives about recycling, and Andy explains that there are no bad questions when someone is trying to learn more about recycling.
