In a world of uncertainty - the one thing you can control with Marisa Peer
My guest this week says we are all born feeling enough, with an innate sense of esteem and confidence. And our job if we want to live a fulfilled life, is to get back to that place where we are enough just as we are. In this episode, I’m talking about the power of the mind with Marisa Peer. She’s been named the UKs #1 therapist as voted by Tatler Magazine and has spent over three decades treating a client list that includes international superstars, CEOs, Royalty, and Olympic athletes. Her approach is known as Rapid Transformational Therapy. It’s a mind optimisation science that completely transforms a person’s way of thinking and therefore living - in just as little as 1 or 2 sessions. I have wanted to talk with Marisa for a long time, and this is an important time to have Marisa on the podcast. Right now there is a lot of uncertainty for parents, yet Marisa has some simple and transformative ways to use our mind to change our experience. I’m excited for you to hear this episode. We talk about: - the power of what we say to ourselves - simple ways to use our mind to change our experience - the way you feel about everything is based on just two things - how to speak to yourself - the three Ps to evaluate any situation - how can we give ourselves certainty - the power of rewards - the power of ‘I am enough’ As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. Rosie Green: a how to cope with mid-life crisis special
This week is a bit of a “how to cope when your life spirals out of control and goes tits up!” Special! And my guest, journalist Rosie Green, is an unwilling expert on midlife chaos. She was 44 (there’s that age again…) when her contented, settled, literally roses-round-the-door family life was pulled out from under her when her husband and partner of 26 years told her he didn’t love her any more - well, he did, but “like a friend”. Yep, I know. Three years on, Rosie has flipped the pain of that heartbreak around, rebuilding her life and her career. One of the results is her new book, How To Heal A Broken Heart - and even though it’s specifically about being dumped in midlife, you’ll also find it useful if you’re experiencing any kind of cataclysmic shift that shatters your sense of self. Listen on as Rosie bares her soul and explains how she got back in the saddle - domestically, professionally and sexually. And because she's a generous kinda gal, Rosie also throws in some midlife beauty tips. Well, why wouldn't you? The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Emily Sandford. I'd love to hear what you think - please rate and review, or let me know on twitter @sambaker or instagram @theothersambaker. You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at Bookshop.org, including the book that accompanies this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too by Sam Baker and How To Heal A Broken Heart by Rosie Green.   See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Rukmini Iyer: Author of The Roasting Tin cookbooks and food stylist
My guest today is Rukmini Iyer Rukmini is a former lawyer turned bestselling author of the Roasting Tin series which have now sold over half a million copies. Amongst her army of followers – who call themselves the TinLads. She counts Nigella Lawson as a fan as well as other famous names from Jay Rayner to Judy Murray. The concept of the Roasting Tin books is deceptively simple, Mini’s recipes lure people in with the idea of the one-pot supper. But people return time and time again because the recipes taste even better than the lack of washing up feels. A pioneer of the _and I quote: ‘put everything in a roasting tin and shove it in the oven’ school of cookery, Mini’s fourth cookbook features tasty, no-fuss dishes from across the globe. As well as writing cookbooks, Rukmini styles and writes recipes for numerous brands and publications, including Waitrose, The Guardian and Fortnum and Mason. Of her success and the reaction to her books, Mini says – ‘It’s one thing having fans who are like, "this is great for dinner", but to have fans who are saying that you’ve changed the way they eat is very humbling,’ ‘You never think that something like a cookbook could have that much effect on someone’. Thank you so much for listening. So so many delicious dishes talked about! Don’t forget to go to the website www.desertislanddishes.co for the full list of episodes plus lots of recipes and you can sign up to the newsletter. Gabby Logan on Midlife Wellness, Power Moves + the Perimenopause
Few people embody a positive, powerful and balanced approach to living well during midlife quite like broadcaster and host of the Midpoint podcast, Gabby Logan. At 47, the mum-of-two feels as good as she did in her 30s, and is passionate about women her age - and older - truly owning their place on TV. As she’s very much doing right now, hosting the BBC’s coverage of the Six Nations. The way she sees it, she’s become more experienced, more skilled in those intervening years - and, as you’ll find out, she’s really fine-tuned the way she maintains her health and wellness too. You’ll hear about her fitness regimen, what it’s been like parenting in a pandemic and why it’s really important to her to prioritise her gut health. But what really sets this conversation apart is how open Gabby is about less well-trodden ground, including how she’s taking HRT since learning she’d entered the perimenopause and why the alcoholism that runs in her family has made her extremely mindful when it comes to drinking. Expect inspiration aplenty from this conversation - no matter what age and stage you’re at.
