Real Kyper at Noon EP.060 – UNDRAFTED LIVE
1 hr 18 min

It’s Real Kyper at Noon, and WE ARE LIVE with Episode 60, as Nick Kypreos is back to discuss his new book, Undrafted: Hockey, Family, and What It Takes to Be a Pro.

As a child growing up in Toronto, Nick Kypreos lived for hockey and dreamed of following in his idols’ footsteps to play in the NHL. Hockey was an important part of the Kypreos household. It was largely through the game that his immigrant Greek parents acclimatized to their new lives in Canada, and from a young age “Kyper” proved he was more than good enough to move through the ranks. But he was never a top prospect—he didn’t even attend the NHL draft when he became eligible. And yet, through dedication and constant improvement, he made it to the show.

Kypreos built a career on his tireless work ethic and made a name for himself for always having a positive influence on team morale. A medium-weight fighter, he squared off with the league’s toughest players, including Chris Simon, Joey Kocur, Tony Twist, and Scott Stevens—anything to give his team an edge. Ultimately, he was brought to the New York Rangers to help them win the Stanley Cup in 1994—their first in fifty-four years—with the legendary Mark Messier. And then he got to live his other dream: playing for his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

When a concussion forced him to retire early, it changed his life. But the lessons he’d learned on the ice over eight seasons helped him build a new career as a top hockey analyst and personality for Sportsnet. For twenty seasons he provided unique insight on the evolving game, and a player’s perspective on the biggest discussions of the day.

Revealing, fun, and brutally honest, Undrafted shows the challenges of being a pro player. It’s a story of the resilience it takes to prove yourself every night, and how the right attitude can lead to the greatest success, not only in the arena, but in life.

Prospect watch, Reverse Retros, and Lali Toor from APNA Hockey
It’s Friday afternoon and that means a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio has been recorded, edited into a masterpiece, and ready to get you set for the weekend. This week, we looked at which Oilers prospects have us most excited, Reverse Retro jersey winners and losers, spoke to Lali Toor from APNA Hockey about winning the Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week’s podcast, we got started with a conversation about the Oilers prospects that are playing over in Europe, specifically which ones we're the most excited about. Whether it's Broberg, Bouchard, Lavoie, or anyone else, there are some important prospects that are getting some quality minutes over in Europe right now and it's been fun to watch many of them have some success. Changing gears, we looked at Jujhar Khaira's spot in the lineup and whether or not his ability to kill penalties will be enough to keep him in the lineup on a nightly basis. From there, we looked at the Reverse Retro jerseys that were released earlier in the week and picked our winners and losers from around the NHL. With the picks locked in, I also made the boys say nice things about their jersey losers to add a small dose of positivity to the podcast. Back to the dark side, we looked back at one of the strangest week's in Oilers history that came in 2018 after Peter Chiarelli both traded Ryan Strome for Ryan Spooner and fired Todd McLellan, replacing him with Ken Hitchcock. Lastly, we were thrilled to welcome Lali Toor from APNA Hockey to talk about the upcoming plans for the organization, what it means to win the Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award, and a whole lot more.

Quarantine Gun Guy, Greg Norman, and Scott Hastings from OddsShark
Another Thursday is upon us which means a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to help you close out the week and get you amped up for the weekend. This week, the guys welcomed Quarantine Gun Guy to the kick-off the podcast with a NationBeer shotgun, broke down a spicy beach photo of Greg Norman, and spoke to Scott Hastings from OddsShark to break down the latest news from the world of sports gambling.   To kick off today’s podcast, the show got started with a conversation about Quarantine Gun Guy, who is the first-ever sponsored athlete from NationBeer. As a representative of the brand, Quarantine Gun Guy is doing his part to maintain high levels of excellence, keeping the citizens entertained while also maintaining proper levels of hydration. From his origin story to his love of shotgunning beers for the people, QGG provided the podcast with a little levity and ensured that the boys' spirits remain high in a time of global uncertainty. Needless to say, it was an inspiring effort and we cannot wait for you to watch the video. With an icy cold beer in their bellies and Quarantine Gun Guy riding off into a lovely Edmonton afternoon, the conversation turned to a spicy picture of Greg Norman on the beach that surfaced this past week, and as you'll soon hear, the boys were very impressed with his... talent. Lastly, the guys wrapped up today’s podcast by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to help break down the latest betting trends from the NFL, and the latest news in the world of sports.
