Becoming a Citizen, Understanding Privilege and the Dissolving of Our Rights and Freedoms – with ‘Citizen Luke’ (GT022)
Luke is a 4-year old Canadian Citizen that came to Canada from Australia. We talk about his background, his journey to citizenship and the process all immigrants must go through.
“Thanks for the immigration, and thanks for the weed… and you know… you can take back everything else that you did….”
“I agree with the problem, I don’t agree with the solution.”
We delve into his thoughts on the structure of law and government, and how it affects and defines privilege and personal freedom. As well as the need to compare our structures to those of other countries, in order to truly understand the depth of how they affect personal freedoms.
He explains the importance of the Canadian Constitution and The Charter of Rights and Freedoms: its history, its direct relation to our personal freedoms and the current assault on it.
“The Charter was a ‘Canadian’ law – the first time that the structure of law and government was founded in Canada, instead of an act of British Parliament.”
“What we’re seeing in recent times, in my opinion, is the biggest assault on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in the history of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”
“…And people are Cheering it along… this.. this erosion of these protections… they’re being convinced that it’s good for them, and it’s good for everyone.”
“The people who are worried about this, they’re aware of what could be lost. Most people aren’t aware of what they could lose.”

What’s happening to Public Service Employees of British Columbia… well, they’ve been told to either share their vaccination status or be terminated. Simple as that.
But there is a group that has formed that is standing up against this mandate – the BCPS Employees for Freedom (BCPSEF).
In this episode I talk with Philip Davidson from the society and we get into the details of when and how this started, what is happening now, and why it’s important to stand up against it.

They Sue the Government for Your Rights and Freedoms – With Lawyer Marty Moore (GT016)
“Rights and Freedoms”… in Canada and throughout COVID?… We actually Do Have them! And Justice Centre Lawyer Marty Moore brings it all to light here.
This was a fun and really important conversation – and the urgency of becoming informed and aware becomes more evident as we cover such topics and issues as:
– The Canadian Constitution and State of Emergency
– Business Shutdowns and an Overreaching Government
– People being Condemned to be Left Alone and Stripped of all Personal Choice
– The Complete Dismantling of our Right to Protest, Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Expression
– Lockdowns, Vaccines and growing Peer Pressure, and Medical Freedoms
– Fighting for Freedom as a Canadian
– And how the Government CAN actually be sued if they don’t stay in their lane
It seems strange to talk about having to fight for freedoms in Canada in 2021, but it seems to be a real issue, and we need to snap out of our complacent and prideful ‘yes ma’am’ mentality and stand up to those who should be working for us instead of overlording, silencing, reprimanding and punishing us.
If you haven’t heard of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms you should really take some time to visit their website at www.JCCF.ca and dig into all of their amazing resources: their ‘Two Minutes with the Justice Centre’ articles; their videos, podcasts, ebooks; and all the cases they’re involved with across Canada.
So check them out, it’s all very enlightening and encouraging! Like Marty said “Educating yourself is really key to being persuasive in conversations.” We can’t be passive any longer!

BC’s Referendum on Electoral Reform with Prof. Daniel Westlake – GT012
So here we are in the middle of a very important Referendum in BC where many people either don't know about it or are confused. If you do know what's generally going on I'll bet you're missing a few key bits of information that Daniel brings to light here.
We got into the details of the referendum and the proposed voting systems... how they work, how they "could work" and what he is curious about in terms of how the government would structure and implement a few things – as some of the information is a little unclear and being left out of both the pro and anti campaigns. As well as the impact the systems might have on how MLA's could act.

Electoral Reform with Prof. Daniel Westlake – GT010
British Columbia is in the midst of Electoral Reform with a referendum coming this fall. I was able to track down Daniel Westlake, a Political Science professor who teaches the subject and he agreed to sit down and give me the low down.
In this episode we focus on what Electoral Reform is all about and the different types of systems that could come up and how they're structured.
It was a great chat and it really helped me to understand what happens in elections and what could happen within different systems. It's all very complex and each system has their positives and negatives - so it's no easy choice.

How Canada Got Started with Nathan Walsh – GT009
OK... Montreal turned 375 this year... and Canada turned 150... what's going on... why is Montreal so much older, and what was happening before Canada became Canada?
These are the few questions that started me down a road that I think will last for many sporadic episodes in the future. I'm so curious now as to how Canada began... what was going on for all those years after Montreal was a city and before Canada was a country. When did the provinces start, what was the order they joined Canada in, what were the years... among so many other questions that come up once I start learning that there really are no simple answers or explanations.
To kick it all off I sit down with my buddy Nathan Walsh – a young and eloquent Canadian History buff – who tries to get me on track with some (we have lots more to cover) of the basics of what was going on leading up to Confederation and the culmination of the 'Dominion of Canada'.

Running Green with Dr. Chris Maxwell – GT004
I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with scientist Dr. Chris Maxwell, who has taken a quick turn from the science world to see what the political spectrum has to offer as the BC Green Party Candidate for the Victoria-Swan Lake riding.
We start off talking about this switch and the things that influenced the decision, including his family history & raising a young son. He tells the great little story of how he "Joined" the BC Green Party... sometimes an email is all it takes... Ryan Steele works at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Senior Systems Analyst. His time there has allowed him to get a good understanding of how the provincial government is set up.
He lays out the structure of the provincial government, giving a good basis for me to start from.
