Play • 30 min

COVID-19 has exposed a unique set of challenges for everyone, especially women. Join hosts Elisa and Eryn as they discuss their own personal struggles of being worn down during this global pandemic and share some practical tips on how to reground yourself with God.

Notes and Quotes:

  • “This uncertainty is magnifying and pointing out the truth that we truly are not in control of our lives, but He is.”
  • “This time right now has revealed to me how important and precious a quiet time is.”
  • “In the suffering, we can develop endurance and character.”
  • Practical things you can do to ground yourself: journaling; quiet time; a breath prayer; squeeze your hands before Jesus to illustrate your desire for control, and then physically open your hands and lift up your concerns to Him.
  • “When we hold our lives so tightly and love them so hard the way they are, we can end up almost destroying them.”
  • “In this season of uncertainty, I think the [lesson] is to hold things more loosely.”
  • Uncertainty creates anxiety or worry.
  • “Be a ‘we’ team with God.”
  • “Be kind to yourself and to each other. Everybody is stressed.”

Episode 12: Prayers That Will Drastically Change Your Life
We've been on such a fruitful journey on this podcast. We've learned that prayer is the way we communicate with the Maker of the Universe, and He not only hears us, but He also responds. We've learned that through prayer, we access healing, wisdom, discernment, peace, protection, joy, and so much power we could never experience on our own. On our last podcast in this series, we share specific prayers that can drastically change your life. We also close out this series by praying together over these areas so that you can start experiencing the benefit of prayer today. Key Takeaways: • If changing our thoughts from negative to positive can turn our day from good to bad, they also have to power to direct the course of our lives. • Our Heavenly Father is ready and willing to guide and direct our steps and provide us with His wisdom and discernment to make the right decisions. • Even when we are weary and weak, the Lord is willing and ready to grant us His strength to surrender to the things we think I can't do or be. Unfailing Grace and Sacred Rest: Julie Carrick and Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith
A beautiful element of Christianity is that when we allow ourselves to relax into the peace and grace that God offers, we experience true rest and healing that restores every part of our soul. Catholic recording artist Julie Carrick has seen God touch her life in the moments she was suffering the most—through infidelity, miscarriage, and cancer—and it’s led her to appreciate His unfailing grace and perfect love, which meets her in all of her brokenness and boosts her with the strength to carry on. Physician and author Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith is an expert on rest in all of its forms, and knows how crucial it is that we give ourselves the type of rest our bodies, minds, and souls truly need. Because it is only when we are well-rested and energized that we can dedicate the best of ourselves to Christ—even the King rested on the 7th day. No matter what we go through, that grace is there.” - Julie Carrick “The scripture—although it was written thousands of years ago—it wasn't written just for a thousand years ago. It was written timelessly. There is no beginning. There's no end. It was written for us today as much as it was back in the day.” - Julie Carrick “We're in a position where we are working out of our exhaustion rather than working out of the fullness of all that we have to give. We're not fully being able to use our gifts and our talents and all that God's placed inside of us because we are always working out of that place of depletion.” - Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith “To give of our best, we have to be able to take the time to intentionally rest well.” - Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith “I always like to meditate on a characteristic of God or even a word that brings you back to think about who God is in your life. Peace, love, joy. Pick a word, a phrase that you will focus on as a way of calming your mind and keeping it from being able to just jump to whatever thought that it decides it wants to.” - Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith “I believe every one of us needs to have those people in our lives, whether it's a counselor or a therapist or a trusted friend, a family member, someone who knows at the very core of what's going on with you.” - Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith “We need to see the value in spending time with those people who can pour back into us. We can't always be the ones pouring out into others.” - Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith “Spiritual rest is the rest we experience when we have intimacy with God, when we take time to break away just to be with Him where we're not coming with our agenda. We're not coming with our prayer list. We're coming simply to just spend time in His presence and to enjoy being with Him.” - Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith “God's best for us is where we actually go back to the very beginning and we do it as He has modeled even from the very beginning of creation.” - Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PrbuwH Video Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PsmEkJ What’s Good? 140: How to Focus When You are Multi-Passionate
Do you have multiple businesses or lots of business ideas? Are you struggling with figuring out how to focus when you are multi-passionate and enjoy many different types of endeavors? Have you ever gone on a trip and felt like there’s no way you could do all the activities you want to do in the time you’re there? This is similar to how we often feel as multi-passionate Christian women. We have so many ideas and so much we want to accomplish, and it can be really hard to narrow down and focus on one thing. In this episode, I want to walk you through a process that I’ve used for myself to learn how to focus even when you have lots of ideas and passions you could pursue. This will be especially helpful if you are an entrepreneur or if you have business ideas, as I’ll be focusing on this from a business angle. For the full show notes for this episode, go to estherlittlefield.com/episode140. 2 problems with trying to promote multiple businesses: * It’s very challenging to try and build or grow more than one business because it's hard for people to know who to refer to you. * We can spread ourselves too thin and end up being ineffective leaders. How to Focus When You are Multi-Passionate: * Step 1: List out all your ideas * Step 2: Become self-aware * Step 3: Put it all before God * Step 4: Ask yourself: what would you really love to do? * Step 5: Get input from trusted mentors or advisors * Step 6: Run your options through the ‘ideal business’ filter * Step 7: Decide and take action Action Step: Join the free Communicate & Connect Challenge. This challenge will help you to communicate effectively about what you do - your business or your passion project AND connect with the types of people who need to hear what you have to offer. We’ll work through this together so you feel confident when someone asks you what you do, have the words to create curiosity instead of confusion, and can keep the conversation going to lead people down the path of working with you!
