Ep 12: Victoria Garrick on Advocating for Student-Athlete Mental Health
Play • 45 min

Student-athletes are used to playing their opponents in a game, but there’s a hidden opponent they’re facing, too — the stigmas around addressing mental health. As a former Division I volleyball player for USC, Victoria Garrick knows how important it is to acknowledge the struggles faced by student-athletes, and she’s on a mission to raise awareness for athlete mental health and break down the stigmas that exist in athletic culture. In this episode, Victoria gets personal about her own mental health journey, what she’s doing to amplify the voices of student-athletes, and we dive into the reality of being influencers in a time of filters & curated posts.

We’re exploring:

  • The realization that led Victoria to seek help for her mental health
  • She opens up about stepping into a new purpose after revealing a secret in an interview
  • What YOU can do to combat systemic issues related to body-image (especially online!)
  • Victoria dives into what it means to “post more, think less” — plus, why being REAL online is so important
  • The MOST REWARDING part of being an influencer (and why you shouldn’t believe the stereotypes)
  • Why taking a short break from volleyball was the one of the BEST things Victoria did for her mental health
  • Kasey and Victoria share common struggles faced by student-athletes
  • And so much more!
