Ep.78- FOX 3 on NEMO! F-15C Pilot-Turned-Watch Dude Talks Bremont, Vintage Seiko, and more
Colonel Richard Sweeten-callsign "NEMO"- joins Matt for a chat about watches and USAF fighters. NEMO spent a full career as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force, starting as an instructor in the T-37, the T-41 (Matt flew these!), and then moving on to the mighty F-15C. NEMO is a watch guy through and through, and spent a big chunk of time helping to build Bremont into the premier "military partner" watch brand that it is today. This one is EPIC! The "C Model"..? We talk about it. Early Bremont..? We talk about it. The best thing about this hobby- as we often point out- is the fact that so many cool people are involved. Matt came away from this one feeling grateful to have made a new friend. We think you'll feel the same way. Thanks for listening!

Gregg is back from the DR and we are good to go. Both of us have NEW WATCH ALERTS. We spend a bit of time mulling the rumors of more layoffs at a certain major watch blog, and basically just shoot the breeze catching up after 3 weeks without an episode (sorry about that). (Actually, we ARE a bit different) Now that the actual design has been revealed, we share our thoughts on the latest monster watch collaboration, and take it a step further by nominating some brands/models from OUTSIDE Swatch Group for potential future mashups. Sure, they'll probably never do any of our suggested collabs, but let's be honest... five years ago did ANY of us see the MoonSwatch coming? Never say never, amirite?! Ep.72- Rolex Did WHAT?!!??
This is a quick catch up episode. We chat about some recent episodes, as well as the new "Thousand Dollar Timex". Even so, we focused mainly on the shocker news of the moment- namely the announcement that Rolex is set to acquire luxury retailer Bucherer. ( Note- Despite our assumptions to the contrary, it seems as if the watch brand Carl F. Bucherer is also part of the acquisition. ) What will this mean for smaller AD's, other brands sold by Bucherer stores, and the state of the CPO program? We pretend to know, and gamely speculate like mad in this one!! Time will tell how things shake out. In the meantime, thanks for listening.

Gregg and Matt met live at Ogopogo Brewing in San Gabriel to record their installment of the WatchPodCollective "Doppelgänger" series. (the WatchPodCollective is the unofficial consortium of pods consisting of "Wrist Cheese Radio", "SOTP", and "Whiskey and Watches", FYI...) The idea here is that we each imagine alternatives for actual stalwarts in our individual respective watch collections, based on aesthetics and use-case. "The king is dead! Long live the king!"---------When we heard the news of Anchor Brewing (Anchor is the oldest brewing operation in California) stopping operations, we were stunned. Anchor Steam Beer is a favorite for many, including us. We're going to miss this brand. It made us think that it might be fun to reflect on other classic brands and companies that have died out, gone dormant, or changed so much that they are essentially unrecognizable. We discuss Universal Geneve watches, Schlitz beer, Saturn Cars, Pan Am Airways, and more. Ep. 67- New Rolex Daytona, Forstner Bands Options, And The Clock Is Ticking On A Certain Omega
If you own an Omega Speedmaster (or a Seamaster, or a Tudor diver, or...) then you are probably familiar with Forstner Bands. Forstner makes a variety of high quality aftermarket steel bracelets- some of which are inspired by classic vintage bracelet designs- for a wide range of sport watches. In this episode, we share some first impressions of a set of Forstner Bands bracelets sent in for review (spoiler alert: they're rad!) and photography. We also debrief the 100th running of the LeMans 24hr race, and chat about the new Daytona Cosmograph that Rolex produced to commemorate the event. Cameron Weiss is an American watch maker- formerly of AP and Vacheron Constantin- and currently the owner of Weiss Watch Company in Nashville, TN. In the runup to recording, we discovered that cohost Matt had recently acquired a Weiss "Agave dial" LE, and that Cameron had recently acquired an old Defender with a very cool backstory. We thought it'd be a great time to catch up with Cameron ( he'd been with us before, on episode 11 ) to debrief Matt's new watch and Cam's recent overlanding adventures in Sonora Mexico. Ep.59- The Formex Formula: GMT's, Meteorites, and Watchdom's Greatest Deployants
In this episode, we sit down with Raphael and Markus of Swiss indie brand Formex. We were able to go hands-on with several of their core models recently (thank you, Markus!)- including their meteorite-dialed "Essence Space Rock" LE- and came away very impressed. The brand's designs are super tech-forward, and the guys gave us the "soup to nuts" rundown on how the brand works its magic with a cutting edge design language. These are genuinely good dudes, and the best part of the whole experience- aside from the fantastic watches- is the fact that we discovered that Raphael and Matt are kindred spirits at the grill/BBQ. Ep. 48- Bausele x US Army = Watches Assembled by Vets
This episode features Arron and Jamal from Bausele Watches, who join us for an impromptu happy hour discussion on a series of upcoming watches from the Oz-based brand. We had the opportunity to preview the watches- some of which will remain under embargo for several more months- and both of us came away impressed with the designs (the dial treatments are pretty bonkers!). The twist on these watches is this- the IP on these designs comes with the official blessing of the Department of the Army here in the US. This is not often bestowed, and it involves Bausele's commitment to incorporate military veteran watchmakers in the design and assembly process. Veterans Day is almost upon us, and it seemed like a great time to highlight this aspect of Bausele's brand story.

Ep. 46- SOTP EXCLUSIVE! Serge, aka @TheWristplorer, and His Boundless Curiosity
In this episode, we are joined by none other than Serge, aka @thewristplorer. Serge is a master of contextualizing watches through the examination of period photos of historical events and people, where watches are worn prominently by the photo subjects. His feed features images depicting conflict history, political figures, the space race, Formula 1, classic action films... you name it and Serge has posted it. Serge's content tends to be quite Seiko-heavy, and we are definitely okay with that! His wrist check on this episode was pretty epic, actually. We talk about his feed, sure, but the REAL subject of this chat is Serge's unbridled curiosity about watches in history. That deep-seated curiosity is surely the foundation of his amazing work. Ep. 44- "SuperDoc" RJ Kamatovic Talks Tequila, Breguet, and Grand Seiko FOMO
"SuperDoc", rjkama, Dr. Kamatovic... it doesn't matter *how* you know him. What's important is that you probably DO know him. RJ Kamatovic is something of a force of nature. If you're into fitness, watch collecting, spirits, or the other forms of "bon vivantery" that we discuss here, then there's a good chance you've crossed paths with RJ's feed. Is RJ an influencer? That's the first question we ask... and RJ's answer is pretty frank. We also chat about tequila (versus scotch, which is RJ's usual playground), Seiko-Grand Seiko branding identity confusion, and the fact that Breitling seems to be just 1 halo piece away from true greatness. And don't get him started on the fact that Breguet seems to be highly undervalued!! "Doc" is an educated, cultured dude, and a great conversationalist. We could've gone another hour on this one, easily.

Ep. 41- IWC, Sinn, Omega, etc: We Pick the Best Watches of the 90's and 00's
This is another cooperative episode between the members of what we're loosely calling "The WatchPod Alliance" (including us, "Wrist Cheese Radio", and "The Whiskey and Watches Podcast") where we will be serving up the first shot in a round-robin sequence of shows. Each pod participant has chosen to select a group of 3-5 watches from one of the past 5 or 6 decades- the sixties, seventies, eighties, and so on. Gregg picked the early 2000's, and Matt has taken the 1990's. The watch choices may or may not surprise you, but they probably *WILL* remind you how cool some of the older, non-hyped pieces really are, even from the big brands. It's our First Anniversary show, and who better to join us than Chase K. Chase- aka "@horology411"- has been a fixture in the Los Angeles watch scene (and the local watch industry, tbh) for years. We share first impressions of the new Planet Ocean Ultra Deep, the Moonshine Gold Speedy, the hand wound Speedmaster '57 (Matt's favorite), and the rest. In this episode, we sit down over a beer (or two) with a particularly intriguing character. David Driscoll is one of those brave souls who has successfully slipped free of the limitations of the horological HypeTrain, and found happiness collecting some of the coolest micro brands out there. David is also a bit of a legend in the high-end spirits retail scene in Los Angeles, working with major outlets and serving as a consultant for celebrity-owned booze brands. It's a fascinating discussion that leads us to ponder the frustrating parallels between the Rolex marketplace (or AP, or Patek, or...)and that of "desirable" allocated spirits (we're looking at *you*, Pappy... lol).
