Bill Moyers and Heather Cox Richardson: The Confederate Flag on the United States Capitol
Play • 40 min
Bill Moyers and Heather Cox Richardson examine how a day meant for celebrating democracy turned into a riot that sought to overturn a  free and fair election. Across the country and around the world people watched, horrified, dumbfounded and disbelieving, as insurrection incited by the President of the United States and his Republican enablers struck  at the very centerpiece of American governance.

Ep. 323: The American News Media And a Crisis of Journalistic Imagination
Leon Krauze is a news anchor on Univision’s KMEX station in Los Angeles. His writing and other work on U.S. politics and immigration has been featured by such leading publications as The New Yorker, The Daily Beast, Foreign Affairs, The New Republic, Foreign Policy, Newsweek, the Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post. Krauze formerly held the Wallis Annenberg Chair in Journalism at USC. Krauze reflects on the unhealthy state of the American news media in the Age of Trump and beyond. He also shares why the country’s reporters and journalists need to ground their writing and truth-telling in the life experiences of everyday people – and not just the insular voices of their peer group and the country’s elites. Krauze also explains why the American corporate news media was and continues to be addicted to stories about the "white working class” instead of focusing on nonwhite people and others. Chauncey DeVega does some reflecting and contemplation during a blizzard about the winter of discontent that is America’s failing democracy, Trump’s impeachment and rigged “trial”, and how the Republican Party is now full-on endorsing right-wing terrorism and other political violence. And Chauncey has a great time exposing the hypocrisy of the apparent white supremacist Republican congresswoman anti-Semite conspiracist Christian fascist Trump cult member Marjorie Taylor Greene and her alleged extramarital affairs including one with a tantric sex guru bodybuilder sword master video game cosplayer who looks like “Zangief” from the Street Fighter series. Ticking Clock: Behind the Scenes at '60 Minutes'
Award-winning writer and producer Ira Rosen reveals the intimate, untold stories of his decades at America’s most iconic news show. When he joined the "60 Minutes" team in June 1980, he knew he had reached the heights of TV journalism, and while there he helped break some of the most important stories in TV news history. Behind closed doors, though, was a war room of clashing producers, anchors, and the inimitable Mike Wallace. With surprising humor, charm, and an eye for colorful detail, Rosen delivers an authoritative account of the unforgettable personalities that battled for prestige, credit and the desire to scoop everyone else in the game. As Mike Wallace’s top producer, Rosen reveals the interview secrets that made Wallace’s work legendary, and the flaring temper that made him infamous. Rosen also shares his experiences as senior producer of "ABC News Primetime Live" and of "20/20", exposing the competitive environment among colleagues like Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters, and the power plays among correspondents like Chris Wallace, Anderson Cooper, and Chris Cuomo.
