101: What's Going In?
A slightly belated, but huge milestone Nerdfest episode! Due to circumstances beyond our control, we couldnât properly celebrate recording 100 episodes together until now - in episode 101. But boy do we make up for it.
Hazel has concocted a feature that ensures we reflect fondly on some of our favourite recording moments, including how many times Jon has had to apologise for something heâs said. And Dan has come up with a top 100 quiz - whichâŠwell, letâs just say itâs not what you might be expecting.
And since it is technically episode 101, we join with Andy and Peter to create the Nerdfest Room 101. Each nerd chooses an aspect of the filmmaking process that they find irksome, and encourage their fellow nerds to send it into the abyss. Have we made the movie world a better place? Let us know!

Andy enthuses about the Ray Harryhausen exhibition he and Hazel visited on their honeymoon. Which leads the nerds down an animated memory lane of one of the industryâs most influential creators.
And Hazel heads back to the Cold War to review âThe Courierâ, featuring Benedict Cumberbatchâs salesman turned MI6 spy.

We welcome Ian and Kerris back on the pod for an episode overflowing with quizziness.

90: Censor And Sensibility
We got in a bit of trouble from Mary Whitehouseâs ghost after last weekâs episode, so this week we have a completely clean show thatâs not rude at all*
In fact, Jon takes things so far as to review the film âCensorâ which is all about how we can best oppose modernism, and build more vernacular architecture. Itâs DEFINITELY not about 1980s video nasties.
In other recommendations, Dan presents genre bending, time twisting, alternative history novel âThe Kingdomsâ. and sings the praises of documentary â1971: The Year that Music Changed Everythingâ.
Peter treads a very fine line by explaining âWhy Women Killâ, the second season of which is coming soon to Alibi.

We have recommendations up the wazoo this time, as we battle Godzilla, encounter a new author, discover the best subtitled series on Netflix from around the world, and wallow in the usual smut and nonsense.
Ian reviews âGodzilla: The Half century War", whilst attempting to answer the ultimate âKong vs Godzillaâ question. Dan adds Samantha Shannon's Bone Season" to the bookshelf, whilst Andy gets all cosmopolitan with "This is not a Burial, Its a Resurrection". Striking a similar worldly tone, Peter reviews French series "Lupin" and "Call My Agent" and Korean smash hit series "Sweet Home" and "the Uncanny Counter". And Jon recommends "Designated Survivor", "The Rental" and, er, "Jiu Jitsu" (a movie he hasn't even SEEN, yet!)

75: Secret Cinema Presents "2020"
Itâs the Nerdfest review of the year! Join us as we celebrate all the joyful things that 2020 brought us, and none of the dumpster fire awfulness.
Peter, Andy, Dan, Hazel and Jon have all compiled our top ten lists of the best nerd pop culture this year, and we use our last podcast of 2020 to discuss, argue, surprise and tut our way through them.
And whilst we have some things on our lists which wonât surprise many listeners (yes, Dan and Hazel hijack the beginning of the podcast to sing the praises of Hamilton and yes, Jon has some more obscure horrors to recommend) there are a couple of unexpected entries. And as always, comedy hijinks ensue.
Whilst we havenât been able to be in the same room together to record the vast majority of podcasts in 2020, weâve loved being able to bring you episodes every two weeks. Thank you to Peter and his technical expertise for finding a way for us to do it.

Itâs a very special week here at Nerdfest, as not only did the brilliant 'Film Stories' magazine recommend us as their podcast of the week, but also itâs our fifth anniversary! We formed our cinema club in the pub, this time five years ago, so we open the show with a little bit of reminiscing.

Looking for some lockdown inspiration? Our nerds discuss our most recommended distractions across movies, TV and comics.
Hazel gets the ball rolling with a review of new Apple TV+ production, âThe Bankerâ starring Samuel L Jackson and Anthony Mackie. Jon recommends TV show âSuccessionâ with the one and only Brian Cox (not that one). Dan promotes the virtues of offbeat documentary âThe Imagineering Storyâ which charts the success of Disneyâs theme parks. Peter covers satirical comedy/ horror with âThe Huntâ, and finally Ian Mayor actually joins us live (well, within social distancing rules) from the void to recommend 'Sabrina' (not the teenage witch); a comic novel which he absolutely raves about.

53: The Musical That Goes Wrong
Welcome one and all to the newly-created Nerdfest 'Cats' Support Group. Curiosity got the better of Dan and Jon, and so they recall their cat-astrophic experiences of watching Tom Hooperâs 'Cats', with what little remains of their souls. In this episode we make our predictions for who we think will die first, and who'll end up on the Iron Throne at the end of the series. 31: Marvellous Things Happen
Itâs "Captain Marvel" review time, the majority of which we spend trying to come up with our own synopsis.
Once we get that established however, we have a lively debate about the filmâs merits and shortcomings.
In another inspired quiz, Ian borrowed the DeLorean to ask his 5 year old self to describe 10 famous movies, while the rest of us try and guess it from his cryptic clues.
And we start the show with our reviews section - including the "RBG" documentary and itâs cinematic counterpart, "On The Basis Of Sex". Peter enrols us in the "Umbrella Academy", and Ian plays a new game he found to comfort him after being too terrified by an "Alien" videogame. Meanwhile, Jon can't make up his mind WHAT to cover, so he attempts to review the entirety of human existence.

So, what was 2018? A whole crock of... well, we wonât go into that here. But the saving grace for a lot of us was the cinematic experiences we encountered, so enjoy our rundown of the best that last year had to offer.

Yeehaw! pardners. Thereâs a Wild West theme to this one-year anniversary episode, as we cover new Coen Brothers movie, "Buster Scruggs" and the game "Red Dead Redemption 2".
Other recommendations are Pratchett and Gaiman collaboration "Good Omens", Netflixâs "Apostle" and comedian-testing panel show "Taskmaster". 21: 21st Birthday Spectacular
Our podcast can now legally consume alcohol in America! Three cheers to that! To celebrate, we go on a right old rant as Ian âtakes one for the teamâ and reviews the disappointing Venom (in a very amusing way).
Itâs not all doom and gloom, as we chat positively about Making a Murderer II, Bohemian Rhapsody, John Carpenterâs tour, and Bad Times at the El Royale, before going all ranty again about Dr. Who (weâre really not sure what Ian had for breakfast that morning).

20: I Didn't See THAT Coming!
This episode has more twists than the spinning top from Inception ...if it was real...(answers on a postcard). We discuss our favourite movie twists, from the moments that made us jump out of our seat, to the moments that made us give a little appreciative nod.
