He worked with Casey Kasem and released an album distributed by Warner/Elektra/Atlantic. Retiring from playing professionally in 2007, Michael Wood moved on to operate a music management and marketing company that partnered with Universal Music for distribution until 2010. In 2007 he also started teaching Music Business at Algonquin where he still is a professor today. Michael Wood has won a 40 Under 40 in Ottawa while also named one of Ottawa's Top 50 most influential people by Ottawa Life Magazine. He was awarded a Top 10 Under 40 by the Canadian Rental Association in 2013 and is a voting member for the Grammy Awards as well as the Juno Awards. Michael Wood was the American Idol Insider for various Fox affiliates, the Music Industry Analyst for Canada AM and other media. One of the highlights of his career was being awarded a Capital Educators Award in Ottawa in 2013 for being one of the top 16 high school, college and/or university professors. Michael Wood wrote a book on the business of music entitled "You've Got A Friend In The 'Biz" which became the #1 best selling music business book on Amazon Canada. Michael Wood is the co-founder and one of the managing partners at Ottawa Special Events, the only one-stop-shop for all event production rentals in Ottawa. Michael is also the co-founder of a start-up AI communication company called the Message Centre. Clients include The Juno Awards, The National Hockey League, Google, Starbucks, Cirque Du Soleil, FIFA, The Ottawa Senators the Davis Cup, Glow Fair, Capital Pride among others. Our staff were hired to be the touring lighting technicians for the Dixie Chicks. Michael has become the leading voice of small business in the National Capital Region. He has independently led a delegation of small business owners via round tables with Ministers both Provincially and Federally. He appeared as a witness before the House of Commons (Federal) Standing Committee on Finance (June 2020). In August 2020, he gathered over 18 small business owners and was a witness before the Standing Committee On Finance And Economic Affairs. He has been profiled extensively in the media both regionally and nationally as he works with the government to develop recommendations and solutions to save small businesses during the pandemic.
