0.33: Invisi-BIPOC with Alba Daza & Mackenzie MacDade
On this week's episode of Buffering the Vampire Slayer, Alba Daza and Mackenzie McDade do an unapologetic deep dive into the BIPOC experience of invisibility. Join them as they discuss the metaphorical and literal ways that Buffy the Vampire Slayer illustrates the ways that BIPOC experience invisibility. They laugh, they (almost) cry, they tell it like it is, and they are ready. to. scrap. Be it through Buffy’s White Savior Complex, the revolution that is "Graduation Day Part 2," or the pure rage of Marcie in "Out of Mind Out of Sight," they are here to share in the solidarity of two BIPOC women talking about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, no holds barred. Join them for an Instagram Live Q&A on Buffering's IG (@bufferingcast) on Saturday, January 23rd at 2pm Eastern / 11am Pacific.  More information, suggested readings, and a viewing guide at: !!  This Episode Contains Spoilers Through Season 7 Of Buffy  !! +++ LOCATE YOUR HOSTS UPON THE INTERNET Alba Daza: + Instagram @alba.daza Mackenzie MacDade: Twitter @mackmactlksback + Instagram @mackmactalksback Buffering the Vampire Slayer: @bufferingcast on twitter, facebook, and instagram Learn more about our team at  +++ Executive Producer: Alba Daza Producers: Mackenzie MacDade, Kristin Russo and Jenny Owen Youngs Edited by: Kristin Russo +++ We acknowledge that we and our team are occupying unceded and stolen lands and territories. VMI 3.111213 There’s Gotta Be a Poughkeepsie Mortem
A LONG TIME AGO ON VERONICA MARS: * Remember Max, that guy who you can pay to cheat on tests? Well he’s fallen in love with a sex worker and wants Veronica to track her down! But it’ll cost him, financially and emotionally. * Remember Bonnie, the sexperson who had been dealing with Dick and other frats outside of her relationship with Luckyinawig? Well, she was pregnant, until someone slipped her a pill that caused her to miscarry. * Remember the Dean’s wife’s ex-husband Steve? He’s back, because now the Dean’s dead, Mindy can’t afford to pay him the bone marrow hush money any more. * Remember eggs, specifically the ones that the Dreaded Feminists threw at the Dean’s car and the Dean’s office? Keith is putting on his old sheriff uniform to investigate. * Remember Wallace’s sportsball coach? No? Never mind: he shows up dead, and the Marses have to prove that his son Josh isn’t the murderer. * Remember Madison Sinclair? Logan had sex with her! And so Loganica break up. Again. * Hence Logan is wallowing in heartbreak, until Dick runs off to Vegas and leaves him in charge of an 11-year-old girl - who is a better friend to him than anyone else has been on this show. Join Jenny Owen Youngs and Helen Zaltzman to investigate Veronica Mars season 3 episodes 11, 12 and 13: There’s Gotta Be a Poughkeepsie Mortem, and delve into such mysteries as why this show gives us 40 minutes of awful Max and one minute of our angel Wallace, what ‘interesting lingerie’ could mean, and why are truck nuts. Content note: Veronica Mars contains heavy themes, and this episode includes storylines concerning murder, suicide, sex work, rape, miscarriage, abortion and anti-abortion movements.
