PFAS and Health Management...with Wendy McLean
Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS, are a class of synthetic, fluorinated chemicals resistant to heat, water, and oil. For nearly 70 years, these chemicals have been used in hundreds of consumer products and industrial applications. These chemicals have been linked to hormone disruption and other serious health effects, even at low doses. They are a significant health concern due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and potential toxicity.
This podcast discusses the health impacts of these chemicals, including their effects on reproductive and developmental toxicity, hepatotoxicity, carcinogenesis, and disruption of immunological, metabolic, and endocrine pathways.
Methods for identifying and minimising PFAS exposure are discussed. Nutritional and herbal strategies for reducing PFAS-induced oxidative stress and enhancing liver detoxification and gastrointestinal elimination of these chemicals are identified.
