Safety of the Covid Vaccine in Spanish
Play • 12 min

This is the first of a series of discussions in Spanish about the new COVID-19 vaccines.  The primary purpose of these lessons is to practice useful Spanish vocabulary and phrases when discussing vaccination against Covid-19. Much of the discussion refers to the mRNA vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna and the information regarding all the Covid-19 vaccines may change as we learn more. Therefore, when speaking with patients, you should always use information provided by current trusted medical sources.

In this lesson, Elizabeth Cortéz, my Spanish teacher at the San Pedro Spanish School in Guatemala, discusses why we can trust the safety of these vaccines despite their rapid development. In doing so, she repeatedly uses the passive se. (Members, see also: RN05 Describe Medical Equipment – Passive Se. )

In upcoming lessons, we will discuss side effects, severe allergic reactions, how the vaccine will not alter your DNA, protection against new strains, administration and more. I will try to publish these as quickly as possible. If there is something specific about the vaccines that you want us to cover in Spanish, leave a comment at the bottom of this post.

CBSw 1.22 | Jag har ont i huvudet
In Lesson 22 of Coffee Break Swedish, we explore the words used for different body parts and learn how to describe any aches or pains we may feel in those body parts so that we can cope with a trip to the doctor or pharmacy. As health issues are at the forefront of everyone's mind at the moment, it's important to mention that this topic is standard in all of our Coffee Break courses across the languages we produce. We hope that you won't have to use this vocabulary in a Swedish-speaking area, but sometimes we have to visit the doctor or a pharmacy and explain our aches and pains.  Season 1 of Coffee Break Swedish features a total of 40 lessons, launching on 20th January 2020. If you'd like to benefit from video versions, lesson notes and bonus audio materials, you can access the premium version of Coffee Break Swedish in the Coffee Break Academy, available from 20 January 2020. As soon as each lesson becomes available in the podcast feed, the course will be updated with the bonus materials. Don't forget to follow Coffee Break Swedish on Facebook where we post language activities, cultural points and review materials to help you practise your Swedish in between lessons.
