The Deacons
Play episode · 41 min

Eric tells a story about forgotten part of civil-rights history that is still very much alive. In 1965, a group of black men in Louisiana called the Deacons for Defense and Justice took up arms against the Klan. Now a daughter of the Deacons wants to start a museum in their honor, but not everyone in town wants their story told. This episode originally aired on the Gimlet show “Undone,” and includes a special update on the story from Eric.

Phoebe, Mai Huynh, & Eric Nam Go On K-Pop Adventure
Hey y'all! Can you believe I'm doing back to back supersized episodes? Well, honestly, I had no choice because there is soooooooo much to discuss when it comes to K-pop that I already want to do another episode. But in the meantime, let's focus on today. After British Baekoff and I talk about his musical past in a scream metal band (lol, wut?), I'm talking to my first guest my friend/co-worker/life coach/part-time therapist/#1 BTS fan Mai Huynh. We not only discuss why K-pop has taken over the world but how it has transformed her life, but also K-pop music is encouraging its fans to be more socially and politically active. Next! I'm sitting down with bonafide star Eric Nam. He has been in the game a long time and is sharing his experiences as well how K-pop has changed since he's been performing. And, you already know we have some cute AF audience questions to answer, so listen now!.  Mai Huynh Details: Twitter/Instagram: @maisquared Food Instagram: @maisnacks Eric Nam Details: Twitter/Instagram: @ericnam Website: www.ericnam.com -- Black Owned Business: Souk and Sepia WEBSITE: https://bit.ly/31MO2QZ INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/2Hu5uTH FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/3kwDCw9 PINTEREST: https://bit.ly/2J2pM6U -- SUBSCRIBE to get the latest Black Frasier Episodes: YouTube: https://bit.ly/33yXkBX Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3a787Vd Spotify: https://spoti.fi/33FG1PA Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/33B9Gt9 Stitcher: https://bit.ly/2F241SS iHeart: https://ihr.fm/3kkY8Ah Pandora: https://pdora.co/31z7Ru6 Deezer: https://bit.ly/3gFwpYN Connect with Phoebe Online at: Visit the Phoebe Robinson WEBSITE: https://bit.ly/3kxHrlo Like Phoebe Robinson FACEBOOK: https://bit.ly/3fCjnKg Follow @PhoebeRobinson on TWITTER: https://bit.ly/33DParN Follow Phoebe Robinson on INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/3a5xVAT Follow Black Frasier on INSTAGRAM: https://bit.ly/31pKiUC -- About Black Frasier: BLACK FRASIER. It is - SURPRISE! - an interview-advice hybrid show hosted by a black person (ahem, me: Pheebs!) who has never seen an episode of FRASIER despite having a white boyfriend. #WeAllContainMultitudes. Moving on. Since I’m known amongst friends to dole out solicited (and unsolicited) life advice, I wanna spend each week - with a celeb guest - helping y’all handle your probs. #OliviaPope #MoreLikeOliviaDope #MomJoke. Pass the Popcorn Tre'vell and Jarrett have opinions about this year's Halloween candy power rankings. DIS/Honorable Mentions This week, Jarrett has an honorable mention for a few films. Session 179: The Role of Nostalgia in Managing Anxiety
The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been spending much of your time watching or re-watching some of your favorite shows from the past like Girlfriends, Living Single, or One on One. But did you know that there’s a very good reason why so many of us are turning to old favorites right now to help soothe ourselves? Joining us again this week to dig into why, is Dr. Alicia Little Hodge. She and I chatted about how nostalgia works to calm anxiety, how anxiety looks different since the pandemic, and she offers her perspective on managing our anxiety around the election season.
