Jody Vance
Jody Vance recently made national headlines sharing her experience with online criminal harassment. While that story is important and she'll share it here, she's a media personality with the quite the journey to listen and learn from.
A born and raised Vancouverite, Jody Vance built her career in radio and TV in BC before her big break. With the launch of Sportsnet, Vance was lured east. In 2000 a move to Toronto would lead to an incredible opportunity to make sports broadcast history, nationally. After a very brief stint as host of Sportcentral AM executives decided to offer up the national supper hour program seat. Almost a decade later, in 2009, the ocean called her back home with a return to her radio roots in the cards to fit her greatest casting: mother to her “miracle baby”. (There’s a story there).
Once settled back home and soaking up the 2010 Olympics, things got very busy. In 2011, while picking up a few fill-in sports shifts at CBC Vancouver - between hosting mid-days on SHORE104, another dream opportunity presented itself. Host of the Canucks Stanley Cup postgame show “Seeking Stanley.” Shortly after that her career path took a turn out of sports and into full-time news and Current Affairs. In October 2011, Vance joined CITY-TV as host of Breakfast Television Vancouver. For five years viewers watched the evolution to where Vance finds herself now: a broadcaster who helps shape conversations that impact her community - and offer opinions.
Five years of BT came to a halt with budget cuts in spring of 2016 - and that was the push to become her own brand. Broadcast Pirate Services Ltd was born. Almost immediately CKNW brought Vance on as go-to fill in host. She penned a weekly column for theorca.ca called The Middle for five years. In 2021 Vance signed on as Canadian Correspondent for Al Jazeera English bringing stories from Canada to a worldwide audience of almost half a billion viewers.
Most recently Jody teamed up with her longtime radio colleague Lynda Steele on a weekly TV talk show called “Steele and Vance” — on CHEK. North America’s only employee owned media outlet. The one hour show followed ‘Jeopardy’ and has, in only its first season, welcomed a “who’s who” of guests.
A proud, and fiercely protective, mother - Jody also admits to being somewhat of a “crazy dog lady” in the best possible way.

Farah Nasser of Global News
This week's guest is the Weekend Anchor for Global National, Farah Nasser. She is an award-winning journalist and before her time anchoring Global National, she was the anchor for Global News Toronto at 5:30 & 6.
Providing viewers across the GTA much needed clarity for nearly two decades, she was on the ground reporting during major events such as the Toronto van attack, the London, Ont., terror attack which killed a Muslim family and was in Washington for the election of Joe Biden. She was the first journalist to be granted a one-on-one with PM Justin Trudeau after the country reopened after the pandemic lockdown in 2020.
Nasser’s status as a trusted journalist with a strong interest in politics has earned her the opportunity to moderate key political debates, including the main 2018 Ontario provincial election debate, and the only broadcast 2018 Toronto mayoral debate.
Nasser has been praised for furthering public discourse with her thought-provoking reporting and motivational public speaking. She created notable buzz on social media as the force behind #FirstTimeIWasCalled and #LivingInColour, two digital series’ exploring the experiences of marginalized peoples; she similarly received plaudits for her TEDx talk titled “The Power of Intellectual Humility.”
She received an Edward R. Murrow award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for her special Living in Colour: Being Black in Canada and is a back-to-back winner of the RTNDA Sam Ross Award for her viral commentaries 93 Killed a Day at the Barrel of a Gun (2018) and What if the fighting in Aleppo was happening in Toronto? (2017); the latter story was viewed 3.5 million times and used as a teaching aid in schools to explain the Syrian conflict.
Nasser began her career with Rogers TV before accepting a position with Newstalk 1010 where she worked her way up to a reporting role. After landing this first major reporting gig, Nasser went on to hold various roles with Toronto 1, A-Channel News, Citytv, and CP24 before joining Global News.
A graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Radio and Television Arts program, she also attended the University of Westminster in London, England and later interned for CNN in New Delhi, India.
When not reporting on the day’s headlines, Nasser spends her time volunteering in the community. She is a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Journalism Foundation and serves as a mentor for the Canadian Association of Journalists and for CivicAction, a non-profit that brings together senior and emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds. Nasser regularly speaks at community events and has worked with organizations such as Journalists for Human Rights, the Aga Khan Foundation and the Economic Club of Canada.
Nasser lives in Toronto with her husband and two young kids. She has a passion for travelling and has instilled that in her children taking her young family to several regions in Canada and through Asia and Europe.

Robyn Stewart of Women in Music Canada
Robyn Stewart is a 20-year music industry veteran, accomplished organization and event director, and is currently the Executive Director of Women in Music Canada. Her experience reaches all areas of event management and talent buying, with strong skills in financial management, complex logistics, government relations and fund development. Among the projects she is most proud of are; Executive Director of Western Canadian Music Alliance, Celebration Sites Manager; Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2010, Entertainment Buyer; PanAmerican Games 2015, and her current roles above. Morganne Campbell of Global News
If you’ve been following along on my social media accounts over the years, you’ve seen a fair bit of this week’s guest. She was my first friend in Kingston, Ontario when I moved away for my first full-time radio job. She became the kind of friend I had to visit quarterly, or vice-versa after only seven months in the Limestone City. Erin Davis: Laugh It Off
My next guest is a Canadian music and broadcast industry Hall of Famer, an author, a podcaster, and someone who woke up Toronto for THIRTY years of her life on the CHFI Morning show. Erin. Friggin. Davis.
The beautiful thing about Erin Davis is her name floats through so many generations, broadcasting and otherwise. My Mom and Dad know her name. My colleagues know her name. Future broadcasters know her name. When Erin Davis was faced with mourning the loss of her daughter Lauren in 2015 in a very public way, Toronto mourned with her. Kristen Smith: Side Effects
I wanted a different perspective from the music industry; my next guest is Kristen Smith, wife of country star Dallas Smith. Kristen was an actor and singer in the past, but her current spotlight is a bit of a Side Effect. Her husband is arguably the biggest country artist in Canada. She handles the fame and attention with such care for her family and finds a way to surround herself with the right people. She's even embraced her platforms, finding ways to bring conversations about body image and mental health into our feeds.

Tara Slone: Top Of Her Game
It’s possible you know her as front-woman for Canadian rock band Joydrop, from morning television or Rogers Hometown Hockey. My next guest is actor-turned-rockstar-turned-broadcaster, Tara Slone! Most people are lucky to have one successful career, let alone two or three. Jeez.

There is an ongoing international discussion surrounding a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body. I’m angry. I’m sad. I’m disgusted. I’m disappointed. Why are we still defending a woman’s right to choose what she does with HER body? I am most familiar with Lindsay's work shooting musicians, but she does everything from professional headshots to commercial photography. She is also fresh off the road from photographing Jagmeet Singh on the campaign trail leading up to the 2021 federal election.

Alysha Newman: My Olympics Didn't Go As Planned

Kayla Grey: Bet on Yourself
Kayla Grey is an award-winning broadcaster. She's an anchor for TSN’s SPORTSCENTRE and a reporter for the network’s coverage of the Toronto Raptors. When she made her debut on SC in 2018, Grey became the first Black woman to host a flagship sports highlight program in Canada.
This year, aside from being named one of Canada’s Top 25 most influential women of 2021 by Women of Influence, she also launched her new original TSN series; THE SHIFT with Kayla Grey Powered By Dell XPS. Erin Carroll (they/them) has worked in the music industry for almost 10 years in marketing, PR, and management. Currently, Erin is the manager of Publicity Services at Cadence Music Group / Fontana North. They have managed several press campaigns for artists like Lido Pimienta, Sam Roberts Band, k-os, Trans Trenderz, Martha Wainwright, Brittany Howard and Black Pumas. Outside of Cadence, they also co-manage singer/songwriter T. Thomason. They recently co-founded the first Canadian Music Industry LGBTQ2S+ advisory committee PRISM with support from MusicOntario. Liz Trinnear: Get Out of Your Own Way
Liz Trinnear and I go WAY back and have so much in common. We graduated from the same University program (Media, Information & Technoculture at the University of Western Ontario), and we both took our first steps in the media industry at Corus Entertainment in London, Ontario, Canada. We were both hired as "summer cruiser" radio personalities one summer while finishing our studies. That essentially meant driving our respective radio station vehicles around, blasting music, and reporting live from summer events. What we really couldn't see at the time was that we both had bright futures ahead of us, and there was room for BOTH OF US.
As the LA Correspondent for Etalk on CTV, she is working from home, applying make-up and adding lights as necessary! Liz and her husband (Nathaniel Motte of 3OH!3) are waiting out the pandemic in Boulder, Colorado before returning to Los Angeles. Find out more about Liz:
