Meditation will do the trick... and so will journaling about happiness. In this week's series, you're guided on a Happiness journey following along with the guidelines of Dr. Sandi Mann, a psychologist from Manchester UK who wrote a book called, "10-Minutes to Happiness, A Journal that Will Change Your Life." In each episode, you'll discover a time-tested question to boost your happiness that you can Journal about and also reflect on as you meditate. This is day 3 of a 7-day 10-Minutes of Happiness meditation series, episodes 2208-2214. THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE: You're invited to take part in a 10-Minutes of Happiness Journaling Quest. Tara Brach | Wisdom For Anxious Times
My guest today, Tara Brach, has been one of my teachers for years, though she never knew it. Back in the early days of podcasting, I stumbled upon her weekly dharma talks or Buddhist teachings and meditations that she’d offer at her Insight Meditation Center in DC, record, then air as podcasts, and the blend of her gentle presence, her deep wisdom that was clearly not just studied, but also lived, her humility, real-world sensibility, and humor drew me in. Tara’s teachings blend Western psychology, she’s also a clinical psychologist, along wtih Eastern spiritual practices, mindful attention to our inner life, and a full, compassionate engagement with our world. The result is a distinctive voice in Western Buddhism, one that offers a wise and caring approach to freeing ourselves and society from suffering. She is kindness and insight embodied, and I’ve learned so much from both her offerings and also the way she seems to move through life over the years. He is the director of programming and outreach at the student mental health services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he’s an instructor in psychiatry.  At Lyra Health, a mental health tech startup, he led the clinical development of Lyra’s mental health coaching program and gave talks on subjects like stress and stigma to audiences at Facebook, Uber, and Genentech. At Cornell University, he oversaw the development of Let's Talk, an outreach program to underserved students that has since been replicated at nearly 100 colleges and universities.   He is an Association of Contextual Behavioral Science peer-reviewed acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) trainer and a former consultant for the VA ACT for Depression training rollout. He regularly provides ACT trainings for professionals and the general public.  He lives in Little Rock with his wife, cat, and guitars, and he loves talking about mental health with people who think psychotherapy and self-help are a bit cringy.
