At the time, I dedicated it to the wonderful people behind Ambient-Nights (mixcloud.com/Ambient_Nights), who I had the pleasure of joining as part of the Ambient-Nights Mixer Family. Ambient-Nights was the site that got me hooked on ambient music since I discovered it in 2007. The quality of their mixes is really extraordinary, and they have a body of work that will sure take some time to go through, but the experience will be just as rewarding. Fun fact: I decided to call this mix after the second track, Weightless by Marconi Union. Few years after this mix was released, scientists singled out this song as "the world's most relaxing song." Episode 61: Rain and Sleet Near the Snowline
This was recorded on a winter day with rain and sleet falling in a densely forested, mountainous area just below the snowline near the Pacific Crest Trail south of Girard Ridge in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest , Shasta County, California. Though a slushy accumulation gathered on the ground and in the trees, the true snowline was about two hundred vertical feet above the spot this recording was made.  This is an unsettling time to be an American. I recorded this on the day our Capitol building was overrun by pro-Trump, far right-wing, ultra-nationalist protestors. While all of that was happening I was walking past trees which were standing before that building had even been built, before this country had even been conceived. Trees which have endured countless storms and all manner of violent weather. I hope that our country can be like those trees. If our roots are strong and our heartwood has not become too rotten, and if the bark beetles of ignorance haven't burrowed too deep, perhaps we can weather this storm.   Sound By Nature is produced by me with the generous support of listeners like you. Dr. Naidoo graduated from the Harvard-Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training Program in Boston during which she received several awards, some of which included a “Junior Investigator Award” (American Psychiatric Association); “Leadership Development for Physicians and Scientists” award (Harvard), as well as being the very first psychiatrist to be awarded the coveted “Curtis Prout Scholar in Medical Education”. Dr. Naidoo, has been asked by The American Psychiatric Association to author the first academic text in Nutritional Psychiatry. In addition to this, Dr. Naidoo is the author of the upcoming title, This Is Your Brain On Food to be released August 4th, 2020. In her book, she shows the cutting-edge science explaining the ways in which food contributes to our mental health and how a sound diet can help treat and prevent a wide range of psychological and cognitive health issues, from ADHD to anxiety, depression, OCD, and others.
