111: "You're gonna be a part of that person's life for the rest of your life. Why wouldn't you love them?" Centering family, passing down Filipino culture, & the blended family experience w/ Aunties Jen & Marie

Nani’s family presence on TFAW Project continues to expand!

Marie Leanio (EO96) returns for her second interview, this time alongside Nani’s Auntie Jen. Jen & Marie have built a strong bond over the last 20 years through an ex-husband they both share in common: Nani’s uncle.

In today’s episode, they share how they’ve broken the stigma on entering into relationships with people who have kids, how they’re kids’ tight bond has created the foundation & glue for theirs, & how they’ve prioritized their roles as mothers to create an unbreakable, blended family experience/legacy that’s sustained decades.

They also discuss how, through assimilation, they see our Filipino culture being lost from generation to generation & the nuanced ways they’ve been able to instill it in their kids without having access to formal, traditional education resources.

As the world starts to “return to normal”, aunties Jen & Marie reflect on how the pandemic changed their lives by reminding them the joy that comes in doing simple things like crafting & cooking, & wonder how they’ll continue to incorporate these into post-covid life going forward.
