Episode Topic: JUMP$TART, Financial Literacy for Young People in Connecticut Guests: Faye Griffiths-Smith and Chris Lee Bio - Faye Griffith's Smith: Teaching people the financial facts of life is my professional pursuit. I enjoy working with diverse groups of people throughout the lifespan, learning about their needs and interests, and encouraging them to take positive financial actions to help them move closer to their goals. Training other professionals in providing financial education to their clientele is also a high priority. I emphasize the importance of engaging program participants in interactive learning activities as an effective way to increase financial capability. As a member of the UConn Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) Team, I also provide storm preparedness education. I focus on personal finances, home records, and family preparedness. I serve on the national EDEN Executive Board as the Family and Consumer Sciences Committee Chair and Northeast Region Representative and the Marketing Committee. In June 2020, I became program administrator of the UConn People Empowering People (PEP) Program, an innovative personal and family development program with a strong community focus. The UConn Extension PEP Communities Program builds on the unique strengths and life experiences of the participants, emphasizing connections between individuals and community action. There is also a modified version of this program for inmates in some Connecticut Correctional Institutions led by volunteer facilitators called UConn Extension PEP CI. As President, I lead the Connecticut Jump$tart Coalition which promotes financial literacy for young people in our state. I also continue to serve on the Executive Board of the Connecticut Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Serving served as President of this affiliate was a highlight. Nationally, I served as the leader for the Family Economics and Resource Management within the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Bio - Chris Lee: Christopher M. Lee is a co-owner of New England Capital Financial Advisors, LLC (a Registered Investment Advisor company registered with the SEC) and has been in the financial service industry since 1993. He graduated with a B.S. from Central Connecticut State University, School of Business, majoring in Finance. In an effort to continue his education and better prepare to advise his clients, Chris has received the following designations and licenses: Received his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM certification in 2007. Chris also holds the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® certification, administered by the Investments and Wealth Institute and taught in conjunction with the Yale University School of Management. Investment Advisor Representative of New England Capital Financial Advisors, LLC a Registered Investment Advisor company (registered with the SEC) Life insurance licensed in the State of Connecticut. His 27 years of experience in the industry has given him the knowledge and skill to advise clients and the unending inspiration to do so.
