The problem is that we often forget who we are in Christ and fall into the trap of identifying with the lie that our past is what is true of us now. We become enslaved to our flesh and need the reminder that as believers, our identity is now to be found in Christ and all that is true of Him. This being so we should now by faith live according to the _freedom that is ours in Christ Jesus_.

“Who am I?” What an incredible, insightful and necessary question for man to ponder. It is asked throughout scripture by people who came to realize as the Apostle Paul put it in Rom. 7:18 “I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.”
It’s necessary for us to come to the realization “that I can’t” but in doing so we must simultaneously come to the truth that God can!

Peter Reid who is the General Director of Torchbearers leads us in a study from John 2 whereby we look at the life of Mary starting with the angel Gabriel’s visit all the way to the day of Pentecost. Peter will point out that this was to be the start of a difficult and painful journey for Mary that would take over 30 years of her life before she would come to realize the full benefit of a heart belonging completely to the Lord. Is this your assumption of what it looks like for your heart to be completely the Lord’s or do you have other expectations? I believe this to be a great question to ask ourselves as we prepare to celebrate Christmas.
