"Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week's episode of Kirking Off we start our 'weapons of mass destruction' block of episodes, and this week we get to meet Commodore Matt Decker, and he's lost his entire crew to a Doomsday Machine that has been flying around space and eating up planets. Who built it, who cares? Because it's sent Decker into a bit of a mental tailspin, but a tailspin that pales in comparison to the one Nate and Dean will put you in when they start talking starship classes. This week we learn that Spock is that kid in class who reminds the teacher to collect homework, and that Decker may have a little Hulk Hogan in him. The discussion moves all around the various Trek series with a focus on what makes Trek great. Prompting questions this week: Is the Doomsday Machine an apt metaphor for nuclear power? Does staying out the Doomsday Machine's front firing arc keep you safe from it's deadly maw? And how long did it take Decker to beam 400 people down to a planet? And has Decker killed more people than Jimmy Stuart? We present to you “The Doomsday Machine” from Star Trek: The Original Series."
