In episode 42 of the Family Twist podcast, Kendall and Corey introduced you to Ryan, who shared their wild story about discovering more than 70 half-siblings, the product of donor conception. A lot has happened since! In this episode, Ryan shares their captivating story of their eventful summer, marked by a unique adventure involving DNA testing, family reunions, and the challenges posed by the growing number of siblings in their group. The Exciting Summer Journey: Ryan's summer began with a fascinating journey, one that many would envy. Their journey started with a trip to Florida, venturing all the way down to the Sunshine State, before making their way back up the East Coast. The highlight of their trip was undoubtedly meeting two of their newfound siblings. The first encounter took place in Jacksonville, where a deep sense of familiarity and connection was evident from the start.
The Growing Sibling Count: Ryan's last visit to the podcast had him discussing the discovery of 71 siblings sharing the same donor. However, this number had now increased to a staggeringly massive 77. The growth in the sibling count was nothing short of astonishing.
* The Process of New Discoveries: Delving into the intriguing process of making new discoveries, Ryan explained how they typically initiate contact with newfound siblings. They recounted how they delicately informed them of the situation, acknowledging the undeniable truth of their shared DNA.

* Challenges of Planning a Full Reunion: A full sibling reunion, while highly desirable, posed a daunting logistical challenge, given the current number of siblings exceeding seventy.

Reunited Triplets Separated at Birth: A Story of Tears and Laughs
No, you're not experiencing déjà vu. A couple of weeks ago we published an episode with triplets separated at birth. But what you don't know is that we recorded that episode twice. Back in June, we spent a little over an hour with Rikki, Jules and Kenny and it was fantastic. But there were some audio snafus and not all the tracks were recorded, so we had to re-record with them. We just found a backup track with all of us on there! Surprisingly, it's almost all different content. It's very compelling and it's very emotional. She is the Senior Graphic Designer for the Cyber Intelligence Team of a world renowned cyber security company where she has worked for about a year and a half. Kenny lives with her boyfriend and partner-in-crime along with two rescue pups in their home in South Austin. You can find Kenny frequenting the local dives, poorly playing pool, catching up on the massive quantities of content on streaming services, or searching out any body of water within 100 miles.
Rikki is Baby C—31 years old and a true Cancer— bold and brazen on the outside, soft and emo on the inside. She is Head of Sales at Scribe Media (our pod producer) and has been with the company for four years. Rikki shares her home in Austin with two dogs, a cat, and her boyfriend, Collin. Natchitoches, Louisiana where his has teaches Playwriting and Acting For The
Camera yearly as a guest artist. Lena marked his first world premiere with a cast
of students. Shores has won multiple awards for his plays and films, including a
GLAAD Award, an NAACP Award and a LA Weekly Lifetime Achievement award
winner. In 2023 he was awarded The Chuck Rowland Pioneer Award by LA’s
The Celebration Theatre.
Shores shares the passion of The Del Shores Foundation in “finding and
facilitating success for the next generation of Southern LGBTQ+ writers.”

Better Late Than Never; Finding Family in Italy
Bob Sorrentino is the adoptive father of two, and the host of the podcast, Italian Genealogy With Bob Sorrentino. Bob always knew his four grandparents all came from Italy, but after a DNA test, he found family he didn't know existed in the country. "Better late than never," is an Italian phrase that sums up Bob's journey. The stories he heard from his new family are too wild to be coincidences.
"The most amazing part of the meeting was a photo of my parents' wedding with my grandmother's handwriting in Italian on the back. Blows you away," Bob said.

NPE: Documentary is Filling in the Blanks
Our guest, Jon Baime, is the writer, producer and director of the documentary, "Filling in the Blanks." After taking a DNA test five years ago, Jon discovered he and his two brothers were the result of donor conception. Discovering the Miracle of Family in the Garbage
Jimmy Amisial's life was changed forever. In 2017, he was home in Haiti visiting from the U.S. where he was studying. On New Year's Eve, Jimmy discovered a crowd making a commotion. There was a naked baby, screaming, in a pile of garbage. The people gathered around thought the child was cursed so they wouldn't touch him. The baby was in distress, covered in fire ants. Jimmy saw a precious living soul, and he knew he had to save the baby. Soon, Jimmy was asked to become the permanent caregiver for the baby, the most-difficult decision Jimmy ever had to make. Cancer Survivor's Dream Come True: I'm a Mom!
Getting to help share Tamika Felder's story is an honor for us. Tamika looked forward to becoming a Mom since she was a young girl playing with her dollies. A cancer diagnosis at age 25 dashed her dream of having a baby. Acts of kindness from strangers helped Tamika's dream finally come true. These former strangers have formed a modern family. NPE Surprise, My Birth Mother was Famous
Our guest this episode is Edward De Gangi, author of the book "The Gift Best Given: A Memoir." Ed's family twist arose when he was 70 years old. Ed was adopted as an infant, a private adoption, but he never had a conversation with his adoptive parents about it. He found out when rummaging through his parents things. In 2016, Ed did an Ancestry DNA test out of an interest in ethnicity. Ed's birth father was married five times, and Ed is convinced he never had any knowledge of his existence. The bigger twist comes with the discovery of his mother's identity. Ed's story gave us goosebumps!

Adoptee's Multiple DNA Surprises
Our guest, Dayna Foster, had quite the DNA surprise. Dayna and her sister were both adopted, and they knew that. It was a closed adoption, but was opened when Ohio changed a law around adoptees' information. Dayna did a DNA test with 23 & Me, and discovered she had four half-siblings, and she quickly connected with a half-brother, Michael. The test results said she was 1% African, and she found a second cousin who is African-American. In Florida, where Dayna lives, the Department of Education has rejected an Advanced Placement course covering African American studies. "African-American history is the history of everyone who lives in this country," Dayna told us. Dayna continues to search for information about her birth mother and extended family.

We're hearing more stories about families that have secrets that go to the grave, including Cory Goodrich's. Cory is an NPE (aka non parental event), discovered after the man she knew as her father died. "Do I belong? What's wrong with me?" were questions Cory asked herself as a child. Cory is the author of the book, "Folksong: A Ballad of Death, Discovery and DNA," about her family journey and how she began to heal through art and performance.
"Trust your children enough to handle the truth. There's great trauma from making this discovery at a later age. The best thing we can do is talk honestly, openly. If we have something to share that will help the next person, it's our obligation," Cory says about family secrets.

Ryan was donor conceived, and after doing a DNA test, they discovered more than a dozen siblings. That number has grown to currently 71 total, and many of the half-siblings are connected in a Facebook group. Our guest, Ann Hince, has a remarkable adoption and DNA magic tale. Ann was conceived in New Zealand to British parents, and given up for adoption to British parents back in England. By the time she was 16, she lived in Barbados, Sierra Leone (West Africa), Hong Kong (Asia) and Bahrain (Middle East). Her birth mother, who lives in New Zealand, kept up with Ann's whereabouts after accidentally seeing Ann's adoption paperwork. Ann met her when she was 17, and her adoptive mother died when she was 19 (both her adoptive parents were alcoholics). It took a lot of tenacity for Ann to discover her birth father's family, and it's a wild story. Undoing the trauma of her childhood has led to a unique place of growth for Ann.
