Red light therapy is a simple, non-invasive treatment that delivers concentrated natural light to your skin and cells. Red light therapy is quick and easy: all you have to do is sit or stand in the light for 5 to 15 minutes, ideally every day. This gives the mitochondria in your cells the natural light they need to make the energy that powers your body.Friends, I have recently become painfully aware of how light can impact overall health. I was on blue light overload and struggling with weekly migraines, sleep issues, and chronic infections, and it led me to finally try Joovv red light therapy.  There was no bigger skeptic than me on this. But I have seen a dramatic shift in my health since using my Joovv device daily, specifically my migraines have completely disappeared, and I’ve also noticed more consistent, deeper sleep, and less fatigue. I’ve also rebound very quickly from infections, and, I haven’t had anxiety like I would expect during this sort of crazy time in our world. You guys know I don’t do anything unless it’s worth it, and unless I’ve done my research. There are literally thousands of clinical studies on red light therapy, and the research continues to grow as more and more people are becoming aware of its proven benefits. By stimulating energy production in the body and improving mitochondrial function, studies show red light therapy reduces inflammation, it speeds up muscle recovery and aids in the healing of injury, and it can significantly improve sleep, circadian rhythms, and overall mood, including anxiety and depression. Nutritionist and educator Jane Durst-Pulkys shares her journey of battling self-doubt, overcoming her lack of self-esteem, and building her confidence. You can find all the info and links about this episode at https://holisticwellness.ca/episode131. How you speak to yourself is very important. How you talk to other people impacts every cell in your body. * The 7 deadly words are the following: can’t, should, if, or, need, must, and try. * Studies have shown that if you were to spend 10 to 20 minutes in a meditation or a contemplation type of exercise, it allows your body to calm down, and it allows for more creativity to flow through. * For you to feel good inside, you have to have amazing energy. * There are 5 new food groups available today: frozen, fried, fast, junk, and processed. There’s also a lot of CRAP - carbonated, refined, addictive, and processed foods. But if you want to feel amazing, you need to eat whole, live foods. Action Steps: * Figure out what’s holding you back and utilize your full potential. * Be kind to yourself. * Love yourself. * Think about what you say and how you say it. * Take some time for yourself and do some meditation. * Subscribe to the 80-20 rule when it comes to nutrition. It’s what you eat 80% of the time that matters the most. Jane said: “I think it’s really criminal to be a man or a woman in this world and to not have that joy and that feeling of [having] your own life in your hands.” “We need to help each other. We need to compliment each other. And if we all were kinder to ourselves, then we could all be more empowered to feel better about ourselves.” Thanks for listening! 245: How to Embrace Change and Stay Calm In the Time of Crisis w/ Nicole Mixdorf
If You Want to Stay Calm in Times of Crisis You Should: * Start listening to your body during times of stress and build awareness around your bodies signals. * Be intentional about how you start your day and how you want to show up in the world. * Incorporate small things into your morning routine that will set you up for success. * Get curious about what you are feeling, label it, and sit with it instead of running from it. * Practice letting go of control and accept that your reality is often something you cannot control. * Shift your mindset to focus on the opportunities that your stress can bring you. * Have faith that your current situation will bring you to the best-case scenario. You know the stress you feel about changes out of your control? Have you ever considered that these changes could actually be a positive thing? By focusing on the best case scenario you can move through your stress response system, shift your state of mind, and set yourself up through self-care rituals that take no extra time out of your busy day. The True Effects of Stress with Nicole Mixdorf Nicole Mixdorf is a stress and crisis expert, Chief Wellness Officer of Balance by Nature, and she knows what she is talking about when it comes to stress. Nicole was recently awarded Most Influential Woman in Corporate Wellness Services USA 2020 by Acquisition INTL Magazine, as well as being named one of the Top 100 Healthcare Leaders in the World 2020 by the International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare. Nicole knows first hand that despite leading a healthy lifestyle, your stress levels can play a huge role in your overall health. Getting Over Your Overwhelm Your autonomic nervous system, or your stress response system, plays a huge role in managing your overall health. During crazy times such as these, when our feelings of overwhelm are at an all-time high, it is crucial to learn how to navigate uncontrollable change without overloading our perceived stress. Stress is one of the most insidious root causes of many health issues, and without the right tools and strategies to create balance and let your intensity go, your candle will totally burn out. The good news is that you can implement small things in your pre-existing daily routine that takes no time at all. These mindset shifts and tools to build awareness within your body can have a radical change on your stress levels day today. Letting Go of Control and Embracing Acceptance Gratitude practices, essential oils, and deep breathing techniques can help you switch your stress response system tracks and change your state of mind. Instead of expecting change to bring you somewhere worse, focus on how that change could bring you somewhere better. Some of the most extraordinary things that happen in life are just on the other side of fear. When you can accept your reality, sit with how you are feeling, and have faith that whatever is coming your way is supposed to be part of your human experience, you can let go of control and look within yourself to find healing. Are you ready to improve the way you move through the stress response system, shift your mindset, and set yourself up with self-care every day? Share which of Nicole’s easy, simple, and speedy self-care tips you will implement into your morning routine with me in the comments section of the episode page. It takes three deep breaths to shut off the body's stress response.” (22:04) “It doesn't have to take a long time, even just five minutes can have a huge impact on your psyche and how you feel for the rest of the day.” (26:55) “In this time that we find ourselves in right now, where everything is being shaken to its core, I feel like we have this incredible opportunity to use this as a time of reflection, to go within and really reevaluate all of these different areas of our life.” (35:56) “If you can just accept that you might not like it, but this is what it is, this is your reality, then wow, you can find peace in acceptance. You don't have to agree, but if you can find the peace when you can finally just accept it, then it opens up all of this mental energy so that you can finally start receiving inspiration and receiving solutions to start improving and making the situation better.” (38:55) In This Episode * Why you need to find time to shake off the intensity of our current world (16:26) * How to incorporate self-care tools into your established day-to-day activities in no time (18:24) * The best ways to incorporate mindset changes into your morning ritual (24:43) * Tips for those new moms or moms to be to prioritize creating moments just for you (30:33) * How to embrace unplanned change during a time of crisis or uncertainty (33:25) Resources Mentioned: Stress and Hormone Essential Oil Cheat Sheet Blueprint for a Balanced Life Balanced By Nature Website Follow Balanced By Nature on Facebook | LinkedIn Related Episodes: Episode 232: How I Radically Transformed My Stressaholic Behaviors and Traded Them in for More Peace Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative
