A common perception is that you must put a lot of thought and effort into displaying style in the way you dress and present yourself to others.
It's certainly one of the most overused words other than chic and fashion, within the realm of how we dress.

Wearing a Suit in the 21st century : Are we the Counter-Culture ?
A few days ago, the journalist Mark Dent published on Vox.com an article entitled : "How the power suit lost its power" in which he explains that if the suit was once the uniform of the powerful and a requirement for every man, now, people mostly wear suits when they’re in trouble or when they are "not in control". To illustrate his theory, Dent takes the example of Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg wearing a navy blue suit in April, 2018, in front of the American Congress. This infamous suit has been described by the New York Times as the "I'm Sorry Suit".

Sartorial Talks : Executive and peer pressure to dress down? Really ?
In certain industries, dress codes are not simply relaxed: it is actively frowned upon to suit up or dress well.
The Tech industry in the old days was stylistically notorious for bearded hippies wearing jeans & t-shirts with funny/political/satyrical messages. They did not care about narrow elegance rules, but they had their very own flair and endearing style.
The above characteristic of the early days of tech was dissected, repackaged and taken to the extreme by the modern world. In tech, we now make an arms race (or a “rags race”) on how to dress down. We've even heard conversations of people boasting how little they spent on clothes. We've heard people making judgements on others solely on the fact that they’re wearing a nice pair of trousers. The whole problem reached its climax a few years ago, when a prominent Silicon Valley entrepreneur publicly declared “I never invest in someone who wears a suit”.
