We think of freedom as being able to do whatever we want, whenever we want. However, too often too late, we discover that that kind of freedom still brings bondage. Christ described a very different kind of freedom: the kind of freedom He can give to the human soul.

Humility is not about putting yourself down. It's about getting a right understanding of who God is, and who you are in measure of Him. When you understand everything you are is because of Him--your abilities, your strengths, your weaknesses, it's nigh impossible to be arrogant: for what do you have that you did not first receive?

One Another - Unity
Withdrawal can be the beginning step toward hatred. When we stop engaging our spouse, our children, our friends, our family, when we choose to turn away from them, that can be the first step toward bitterness and brokenness. In our church family, it can be easy to turn away. The question is, how do we not do what is so natural. How do we not withdraw? We must have our minds made up to obey the Lord. We must have our minds made up to walk through whatever it is as long as God allows. And we must have our souls resolved to the fact that apart from Him, we can not do it. We must confess what we really want/feel to the Lord. We must confess the ugly, the hurt, even the ill-will to Jesus. Our tendency is to justify ourselves. Our tendency is to give up. But if God encourages us to take another step, we can rest in Him. We can trust Him to lead the way, to show us what we should do, to help us respond, to gently deal with us first, and trust Him to work on others when He sees fit. Even when…

Keys to Consecration
We know we should be consecrated. How can we become consecrated to Jesus? Pastor Chris gives us four main keys.
Sep 16, 2018
Motives are everything. People may see the outside, but God sees what's really going on inside of us. Why should we consecrate ourselves to the Lord? Consider who He is. He is holy. He is entirely sincere, utterly incapable of deceit. He is sees us through and through, and still loves us--wants us! He is humble. He kneels and washes the feet of the very person who would betray Him. He is terrifying. We are held together in His hand, with every act of rebellion open in His eyes. He is gentle. Though He could crush us with one word of His mouth, instead He desires to use His power to bring healing and restoration. Oh that our hearts may know this gentle, holy, yet terrifying Savior.
Sep 9, 2018
Consecration Leads to Restoration
You cannot have life apart from Christ. Without Christ, there is brokenness in your life, your family's life, and the people around you. But when you turn to Christ, and are willing to acknowledge your failure, your thoughts, etc., He heals you from the inside out. You must be willing to open everything in your heart to Him, Dear One. Be willing to do what He places on your heart, with His power. As you consecrate yourself to Him, He brings true healing and restoration.
Sep 2, 2018
Consecrate - We the People
God is a God of excellence. Have you ever thought of that? He does things to the best they can be done, always. He is considerate, always. He operates with integrity, always. He is excellent. What better way to honor our God than to become more and more like Him? When we come to Him, do we offer our best out of His abundance? Or are we skimpy? If we knew God, and how purely good He is, how generous He is toward us, why would we withhold anything from Him? Oh, that He would teach us His ways! That He would instruct us in excellence in all things, even giving us the power to give everything we are and have and lay it back at the feet of the giver of all good gifts.
Aug 26, 2018
Life In Christ
As long as you are serving God for approval, He will never truly be your treasure. When you stop to think that He is fully accepting of you, that He wanted you so badly that He was willing to lay down in His life for you, than you'll be free to serve from a heart of love.
Aug 19, 2018
Aug 12, 2018
Out with the Old, In with the New
Life in Christ isn't just a 'do or don't' thing. In other words, do this, or don't do this, and you'll be accepted. More accurately it's an 'in or out' thing. Either you are in Christ or you are not. It's being in Christ that gives you the freedom to do the things that are pleasing to Him because it's His life lived through you. So when you are in sin, and struggling to believe, the true cure is bringing your sin and unbelief to Jesus, letting Him deal with it and change you from within.

Jul 15, 2018
Jesus is the exact representation of God. He is the Maker deciding to be born as a frail human being, wear breakable flesh and identify with the dust-ridden humanity. Even so, He is Lord. At His will, we move, and breathe, and have our being. He is supreme.
Jul 8, 2018
The Gospel Effect
Jesus, the Son of God, came to save people completely; not just from the consequences of sin, but from the bondage of it. There is life in the gospel. There is eternal life which begins the moment you say "I will" to Jesus as your atonement for sin, as the rightful Lord of your heart and soul. If you will, He takes you as you are, and creates you into the being He meant for you all along--a person filled with Him and for Him forever. And what more can we do, but to tell His story? The One who gave everything to know you and save you, how you can not tell what great things He's done for you? He is beautiful.

God knows the end from the beginning. There's not a hair that falls from your head that He is not aware of. Your thoughts and your actions are all open before him. He knows how the whole story will end. What a comforting thought that our God who has all power, has all knowledge.

Know God: Immanence
God is truly unique. He is the maker of everything. Just think about that--He called into existence anything that is in existence. He sustains it by his very will. He is outside the natural laws of the universe because he made the laws to begin with. That is truly an amazing thought.

How to Keep Giving Thanks
If we're honest, there are times when we really don't feel like God is with us. We've prayed, but the answer seems so slow in coming. Or the outcome is disappointing. How do we even give thanks then? 2 Cor. 2:14 says, "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place." IN Christ, there is hope. IN Christ, there is the promise that one day there will be no more suffering. IN Christ, there is the knowledge that He IS working all things together for good. So Father, please help us to give thanks to you in all seasons. Help us to trust you and praise you.

Ephesians 7: United with Purpose
It is so easy to get side-tracked from a goal. Like when you want to shed a few pounds, but then someone brings in a box of candy. Or you want to do better at work, but then you get a snarky remark from your boss. Christ's goal for people is simple: be reconciled to God and then join His work in reconciling others to Him (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). When we come together in love and unity, God is able to use us for His kingdom. But here, too, we may get side-tracked. How far are you willing to go to join Christ and His church on mission?

The gospel. The idea, the truth that Jesus-God in the flesh-came for us. While we were yet sinners, while our hearts were in rebellion, He came. And He calls us to join Him in that mission.

Ephesians Part 4: Being in Christ
In Christ we're no longer primarily Latino, Asian, Black, White or "Other." Christ has put to death the sin that separates us from God, and the sin that separates us from each other. Sin was crucified and in Him we are a new creation. The question is will we live up to His calling?

Lessons from Joseph Part 3
There are dark times we go through when we feel like God has forgotten us. The promise is that He will work things out together for good--but knowing that and resting in that truth are two different things. God prepared Joseph for a service that Joseph probably could not have imagined. And when Joseph was finally exalted, he knew who received the real credit. It was the God of heaven who had preserved him and raised him up to be a blessing.

Lessons from Joseph Part 2
Joseph was sold by his brothers and worked as a servant for years. Yet God was WITH him. This is huge. Joseph remained faithful to God even in this painful and humbling situation. God prospered him so that Joseph became a tremendous asset to his master. And then temptation came. But what did Joseph do? Indulge it? No. He ran from temptation because his desire was to be faithful before his God.

Lessons from Joseph
Joseph is one of the most beloved people in the bible. His life was epic with all of the dealings of a novel. Betrayal. Servitude. Prison. Power. Redemption. God worked in Joseph's life through all of the hurt and turmoil he endured--and did something in Joseph far greater than he could have imagined.

There's a lot of bad teaching on giving. There are those who are greedy and will say whatever it takes to manipulate people into giving. Jan 31, 2016
Jesus: The Bread of Life
Jesus called Himself the bread of life. What an interesting title to give Himself. If you think about what bread does, it nourishes our bodies and gives us strength. We need bread (food) to live. Without it, our bodies cannot survive. Jesus makes that comparison to Himself. He nourishes our souls and gives us strength. We need Him to live; without Him, our souls cannot survive.

God commands us to 1) not worry 2) pray and make supplication 3) give thanks 4) make your requests known. :o)

Jesus: The Greatest Giver
Jesus gave up Himself. Sometimes it is hard to grasp the fact that our Creator, who with the power of His word commands and it is so, gave up His authority, concealed His Godhead, and poured out His life for His creation ... I don't know that we can ever truly grasp that. And if it be so (it is), then God help us to let Him be our God. That we would put our trust in Him and His Word - not in us and temporal treasures.

Pastor Chris stresses that the real purpose to fixing the building isn't just to have a nice building. It isn't just for morale or to make a statement to our community. When Jesus was about to die, His disciples came to Him asking who would be the greatest in Heaven. They were concerned about prestige. But Jesus told them to be great, they had to be a servant. Is there joy in Christianity? I know we look to things and situations to bring us happiness..but when the newness has worn off and we find out that the next big "thing" didn't bring us what we had hoped, what do we do?
