Play • 27 min

On September 15, a historic ceremony took place at the White House. Israel signed a peace treaty with the UAE and a peace declaration with Bahrain. With the Oslo Accords having been signed 26 years ago, is Israel's normalization with Arab countries a legitimate solution in light of the Palestinian issue? Are we about to enter a new era in the Middle East? Dr. Yossi Beilin and Prof. Gerald Steinberg discuss the implications of these diplomatic breakthroughs on the future of relations between the Palestinians, Israel and the Arab world.

Gerald Steinberg is professor emeritus of political science at Bar Ilan University, and founder-president of NGO Monitor. He is a frequent oped writer and an analyst on Middle East issues in the international media. His book, "Menachem Begin and the Israel-Egypt Peace Process: Between Ideology and Political Realism," was published in 2019.

Dr. Yossi Beilin is an Israeli politician and scholar who has served in multiple ministerial and leadership positions in the Israeli government. Beilin spent much of his political career in the Labour Party. He also served as chairman of the Meretz-Yachad political party. Beilin is one the architects of the Oslo Accords.
