*One time, two kids asked their software developer dad to tell them what he did at work. He started talking about technology, IBM, Watson developer, etc. — but quickly realized that this didn’t mean anything to his kids. *
*Then, one rainy afternoon during the school holiday, he got his kids to try out a little something he made using Watson software at work (a Guess Who game of sorts) and suddenly the penny dropped! They finally understood what their dad had been doing at work. *
*And this is how **Dale Lane**, one of the senior technology engineers at **IBM**, started teaching **machine learning** to kids. And since we all use different machine learning systems pretty much every day, he realized how important it is to help kids understand how the world works and even build their own systems with this technology. *
*Fast forward to the present day and Dale has a series of workshops behind him, all aimed at introducing machine learning to kids. His free tool helps kids understand machine learning by providing hands-on experience using Scratch, Python, and App Inventor so they can create different projects and even build games. *

In the latest episode of the COING podcast, we spoke with **Miljan Tekic**, the co-founder and COO of **Tenderly**. *
*He shared with us how you don’t always need to stick to a plan, that you have to learn to embrace failure, and why asking a lot of “whys” when trying to solve even the most complex problems can be an almost bulletproof problem-solving strategy.*
*A thoughtful suggestion was — even after failure, what’s the worst that can happen? Is everything truly lost and irrecoverable?*
*An approach that Miljan grew into after inevitable failures, trials, and errors is that it’s never too late to switch paths and start over. Sticking to initial plans even when circumstances change is sometimes not the best approach. *
*Most of the time changing plans does not mean you have failed. The only thing that is true failure is our lack of ability to accept failure and move on and apply what we have learned to our new plans. *
*We also discussed Miljan's search for a more productive version of himself and how productivity itself evolves over time, just like plans. We have to learn to adapt to the world around us, and this in itself is a constant evolution of not only ourselves but of the plans we create. *
*Gaining awareness of both the negative and positive influences can help us keep on track no matter how many times that track changes.
