According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness, defined as a condition that affects a person's thinking, feeling, or mood, each year, approximately 52.9 million Americans.

Welcome to Reach for Understanding! Hosted by Joseph Oria and Tom Franchi. This podcast will look at mental health incidents in America, tools that can and will be used to help anyone dealing with a mental health crisis, and how situations can be handled better. Nearly one in four Americans will deal with some sort of mental health issue in their lives and knowing what and how to handle it can improve outcomes exponentially.
This first episode looks at the National 988 number going live on July 16th and the impacts it will have on people in crisis. We delve into what is a crisis and what someone might be going through to make them need to call the crisis line.
