Mr. Hettick was from central IL and served in the US Army's 96th Infantry Division - the "Deadeye's" - in the Pacific during WWII. There he fought in the lengthy battle for Leyte in the Philippines starting in October 1944 and immediately after went to fight in the battle for Okinawa on April 1, 1945 where he was severely wounded and sent back to the USA at wars end.
