Laura Marks: A Fighter Who Has Learned Forgiveness

We hope you enjoy today’s conversation with Laura. Laura Marks is an accomplished coach and athlete, and currently serves as the Head Coach at The Vegan Gym. With over 23 years of coaching experience, Laura has worked with athletes of all ages and abilities, from beginners to top-level competitors.
Laura is a Certified Sports Performance Coach and Certified Yoga Coach, and is also a competitive athlete in Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Crossfit, Figure, and seeking her first Ironman. Her personal journey with fitness and health took off after she overcame an eating disorder that nearly took her life, and she is now on a mission to help others achieve their health and fitness goals.
As a vegan athlete, Laura is passionate about showing others that it is possible to be strong, confident, and sculpted while following a vegan lifestyle. She graduated from the Vegan Superhero Academy in April 2019 and was so inspired by the program that she decided to come back as a coach.
In her coaching practice, Laura focuses on creating a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers her athletes to reach their full potential. When she’s not coaching or training, Laura enjoys spending time exploring the great outdoors with her pup Rogue, visiting family and friends, speaking to the youth, reading, and so much more.

Heart Healthy Tips with Dr. Abena Osei-Wusu
Join the Perfectly Pl@nted team for a wonderful conversation on Heart Health with Dr. Abena A. Osei-Wusu, FACC, FSCAI.
Dr. Osei-Wusu is committed to improving the health of global communities as a clinician, advocate, and drug developer, reflective of her core principles of health, service, and global citizenry. A Maryland native (by way of Ghana), and graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, she received her specialty training in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Baltimore Veteran’s Administration Hospital. She subsequently completed additional subspecialty training in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Her clinical and research interests have included coronary interventions, invasive hemodynamic assessment of heart failure and valvular heart disease, non-invasive cardiology (with particular attention to risk factor modification for cardiovascular disease prevention), and the evaluation and management of cardiovascular diseases in women and minorities, as well as understudied and underserved populations.
A creative who has a passion for artistic expression, Dr. Osei-Wusu has spent many years as a professional dancer, has a lifelong interest in the culinary arts, and is a self-professed plant-based foodie whose vegan journey began in 1997. She also continues to expand her skills as a fashion designer and sewist, focused on women’s apparel and accessories. She is dedicated to her family, and relishes time with her husband and young son.

These sounds like words to a song that we are all singing. An article that was written in 2016 (pre-pandemic) that indicated that “...stress.....has been dubbed the “Health Epidemic of the 21st Century” by the World Health Organization and at the time was estimated to cost American businesses up to $300 billion a year. Not all stress is bad stress. However, when stress becomes chronic in nature that is when it can significantly impact our health. Living Wholistically with Laura Hale
The Perfectly Pl@nted team welcomed colleague, friend and wellness advocate Laura Hale to the podcast. In 2015, Laura started on a health journey that led her to wanting to expand her knowledge around nutrition and holistic medicine. She pursued additional education and certifications in Holistic Nutrition, Wellness Coaching and Reiki. She is a Holistic Health Practitioner and Reiki Master with her own private practice. In her wellness business she offers group programs, one-on-one coaching and specialized classes for small groups and corporations. She is highly skilled in assisting people with addressing their limiting beliefs, improving their mindset, setting goals for their life and building a roadmap to achieve their dreams.
