#28. Parliamentary punditry – Dame Angela Eagle reflects on her three decade-long tenure in politics

This week Simon welcomed MP Angela Eagle into the studio, as an active member of the Labour Party since she was 17 her career has not been without its challenges.

Angela was re-elected to be the Member of Parliament for Wallasey in the 2017 General Election and the 2019 General Election. She has been appointed as both Shadow First Secretary of State and Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills in September 2015. 

In 2016 Angela announced a leadership challenge against Jeremy Corbyn and accused him of allowing abuse against ministers to flourish. 

She is the second openly lesbian MP after coming out in a newspaper article in 1997 and was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2021 New Year Honours for parliamentary and political service.
