Guardrails, Week 5 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Solomon, the wisest person who ever lived, wrote these words: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Obviously, Solomon wasn't talking about guarding against physical heart attacks by taking baby aspirin, eating veggies, and limiting red meat intake. He’s talking about something much deeper—protecting the very essence of who we are. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike shares the most important Guardrail of all, and how it will protect our heart from the attacks made on it every day.

The Church Just Wants Your Money - Week 3, Pastor Mike Schreiner
Imagine if the Church JUST wanted your money. Religion would be nothing more than a financial transaction. The result would be empty churches and parched souls. The truth is: God and the Church want so much more than your money. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike continues to poke fun and take a hard, honest look at the condemning words culture often hurls at the Church.

The Church Just Wants Your Money - Week 2, Pastor Keith Scarborough
We’ve been having a lot of fun mocking the popular phrase “The church just wants your money.” If you’ve seen the video bumper then you know that your pastors (who normally wear jeans and drive civics) got all decked out in white tuxes and pretended to be jet-setters. While we are poking fun at those who exploit generosity the truth is there is a lot wrong with the phrase “The church just wants your money”. Join us this week as Pastor Keith tackles the word YOUR in that overused phrase. After all, whose money is it anyway?

The Church Just Wants Your Money - Week 1, Pastor Mike Schreiner
Yep, you read that right. We’re going there! In a culture where a lot of negative things get said about the Church—“It's judgmental, hypocritical, boring”—this one may be the most popular: "The church just wants your money." At Morning Star, we love taking on these kinds of controversial topics. Instead of dodging the hard questions, we run straight toward them. So join us this weekend as Pastor Mike challenges us to honestly examine our thoughts, feelings, and relationship to both money and the church.

The Quest For Happy, Week 4 - Pastor Keith Scarborough
The Apostle Paul was quoting Jesus when he said, “It is better to give than to receive.” This week as we continue on our quest for happiness we are asking the question, is this true? And if so, WHY is it true? Most people around us pursue happiness through the gathering of stuff and/or money to buy more stuff. Why then did the Lord tell us that happiness comes from the complete opposite approach? Join us this week as Pastor Keith breaks down the notion that happiness comes from acquiring more stuff.

The Quest For Happy, Week 3 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Part of being happy is being fully present--being able to appreciate the places you're at and the people you're with. But one of the biggest enemies of being fully present is staying stuck in the past. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike helps you identify those things that weigh you down so you can get past your past and run the race of life with joy.

The Quest For Happy, Week 1 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Happiness. It’s a quest. People of every race and generation have searched for it in many types of places. But what if we’ve looked for it in all the wrong places, or waited for it arrive when all the stars magically align? Join us this coming weekend as Pastor Mike kicks off a new series, which will show how astonishing new research aligns with what God revealed in His word long ago: happiness is achievable for all of us, if we’re willing to put in the effort.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Week 4 - Pastor Jennifer Long
So what happens at your house when the doorbell rings? At my house, the dog goes nuts, I usually roll my eyes, and I mentally rehearse my “no” speech while I walk to open the door to the inevitable sales person (unless it’s a scout selling popcorn or cookies. Then I have a “yes” speech). For many of us, our home is not so much an open door as it is our refuge – the place we go to shut out the cares of the world. But what if being a good neighbor means that we also open our homes and welcome them in? What if that means being a bit inconvenienced, or even embarrassed? What if Jesus calls us to invite our neighbors into our homes and it is there that he will reveal himself to all of us? Join us this weekend for our final installment of Won’t You Be My Neighbor? and learn how our homes can be used by God.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Week 3 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
There's certainly some wisdom to the old adage, "fences make great neighbors." But fences can also create barriers to connecting with our neighbors. Furthermore, in today's world, fences aren't just literal. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike shares how we can identify and overcome the "fences," and take intentional steps to fulfill the second half of Jesus' Great Commandment: "love your neighbor as you love yourself."

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Week 2 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
After Jesus gave the Greatest Commandment—to love God and neighbor—a lawyer asked, "So who's my neighbor?" Jesus replied by telling the Parable of the Good Samaritan, which focuses on helping people in need. While this is certainly critical to the mission of the Church, we often overlook our actual neighbors. Yep, the people who live on either side of us; the folks down the street; the folks in our cul-de-sac and subdivision. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike equips and challenges us to live on mission with Jesus in our own neighborhood.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Week 1 - Pastor Jennifer Long
Have you seen the new Mr. Roger's movie coming out this fall? It's the story of that iconic neighbor, Fred Rogers, and the influence he had on a whole generation - or three - of Americans who were taught to be kind, express their feelings, accept others and use their imagination. Maybe we could stand to learn again how to be a good neighbor. Our world is filled with brokenness and division and we can see the need for loving our neighbors. And maybe Jesus really meant it when he said, "Love your neighbor as yourself." This weekend we begin our new series "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" so invite your neighbors and join us for worship in the Auditorium or PANDAMONIUM in the Venue!

Reality Check, Week 3 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
The war on drugs used to be something the United States fought against Central and South America. Now it's being fought in every pocket of community in every city across the nation. Obviously, something more has to be done. That's where Jesus and His Church come in. Join Pastor Mike and his special guest, Joe Richardson, whose personal loss to drugs spurred him to begin his own war on drugs--the Awaken Project.

Reality Check, Week 2 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Original Sin. In the Bible, it’s trying to be like God. In America, it’s racism. We still bear scars from shameful treatment of Native Americans, the evil of slavery and Jim Crow laws, and degradation of immigrants in every generation. We’ve tried to legislate morality; we’ve tried protests and marches; but the only way change will ever come is through Jesus and His Church. This weekend, join Pastor Mike and his special guest—one of MSC’s own students, Vanessa Onuoha, for a Reality Check on race.

Reality Check, Week 1 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Our kids and grandkids are getting ready to head back to school for another year. Interestingly, in today’s culture, even elementary age children are faced with very adult issues and struggles. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike kicks off a new three-part series filled with critical information and practical tips. Buckle up for a jaw-dropping Reality Check.

Questions For God, Week 4 - Pastor Keith Scarborough
Over the past three weeks we have been answering your questions to God. While this has been a great way to get our congregation involved in our messages, it has also been an enlightening time of studying God's word. It has been a reminder that God's word withstands scrutiny and that we have no reason to check our brains at the door. In our final week, Pastor Keith will answer perhaps the hardest question asked this month. “Why is the God of the Old Testament so different from Jesus in the New Testament?” It’s true! In many Old Testament passages God seems angry and relentless toward His enemies. How then is it possible for Jesus (who we claim to be God) to seem so kind and loving? Bring your Bible (and your brain) as we explore the One true God of the Old and New Testament

Questions For God, Week 3 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Some people search for meaning and significance through fame and fortune; others by divesting themselves of all material goods and investing in serving the poor. But how can you know--for sure--that you're doing what God created you to do? Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike answers this question, which was the number one vote-getter from the poll we took the past couple months.

Questions For God, Week 2 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
When we go on a trip to a new destination, Mapquest or your Navigation app will often give you more than one choice. All the routes start at your current location, but take different roads to the same ultimate destination. Many wonder if the same logic holds true with our ultimate spiritual destination. Do all religions lead to the same God/god and experience in the afterlife? Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike answers this question that you told us you wanted to ask God.

Questions For God, Week 1 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
*Why?* Not surprisingly, when we polled our congregation and community several months ago, we found out that one of the top questions people wanted to ask God is the oldest theological question of all-time: Why? Why do bad things happen to good people? Why would a good God allow anyone, let alone His own people, experience pain and suffering? Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike provides new perspective for this age-old problem.

Chase The Lion, Week 2 - Pastor Jennifer Long
When the Blues were in last place earlier in the season, few people were hopeful that the Stanley Cup would be coming to St. Louis by June (Laila tops the list though!). In January, the odds of the Blues winning the cup were pegged at 0.6 percent. Oftentimes in our lives, we face insurmountable odds and want to give up, to turn and run, to freeze in fear. But we have a God who loves to beat the odds, who shows us the impossible and leads us toward His victory and wholeness in ways we can’t imagine. Join us this weekend as we learn together how to trust God in the beginning of the beginning, at the first drop of the ripple effect (or puck!).

Chase The Lion, Week 1 - Pastor Keith Scarborough
This past week our kids have been experiencing our VBS program entitled ROAR! Each day we have been teaching them Bible stories, and stretching their faith in and reliance on Jesus. We figured you guys could use some of that too, and so this week we are beginning a series from an obscure passage of scripture about a guy who chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day. This three part series is designed to challenge us all to recognize the path of our spiritual journey and overcome the many obstacles in our way to become all God has created us to be. Join us this week as Pastor Keith kicks off this faith building series.

Pastor Kim Blackwood
Walking around blinded by darkness can be scary. We’re never quite sure what we’ll run into and/or when! Exploring unknown places within ourselves can be even more intimidating, and for the same reasons. Our Good Father wants to illuminate the “stuff” in our lives that we’re currently unaware of - the attitudes and sins that we’re missing, so that we can live life to the fullest!

Family Matters, Week 4 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
*FAMILY MATTERS**, part 4 - Jacob & Esau *“I’m sorry.” Two very short, simple words. Easy enough for a 2-year old to say. Yet they are often the most difficult words for our lips to form. Left unsaid, however, they can create a chasm between two people, two families, two groups of friends. The damage can be massive. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike unpacks the last of our sibling rivalries—Jacob & Esau—and shows that it’s never too late to say, “I’m sorry.”

Family Matters, Week 3 - Pastor Mike Schriener
Rachel & Leah Jacob fell in love with Rachel and worked 7 years to earn the right to marry her. But Rachel's father tricked Jacob into marrying Rachel's older sister, Leah. So Jacob worked another 7 years for his beloved, Rachel. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike unpacks the dysfunction in that household--two sisters married to the same man; and one ends up being treasured while the other is little more than a third wheel.

Family Matters, Week 2 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
*Family Matters, part 2 - Cain & Able* Sibling rivalry goes back to the very beginning of time, with the first family. Adam and Eve’s two sons, Cain and Abel, each made an offering to God. Abel’s was accepted; Cain’s wasn’t. Jealousy got out of hand, and Cain murdered his brother. The culprit behind it all was comparison. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike challenges us to explore how everyone loses when we compare ourselves to others instead of channeling our efforts to become the best version of ourselves.

Family Matters, Week 1 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
*Mary & Martha* Family has always been important, regardless of the culture or the generation. It’s the people we’re called to care for; to share life with; to honor and bless. This weekend, Pastor Mike kicks off a new series by taking a look at two sisters with two completely different approaches toward life… and toward God. It’s a message for moms all of us who want to get closer to God; who yearn to find that elusive balance between caring for others and for self; and who want to realize their God-given destiny.

The Good Place, Part 4 - Pastor Keith Scarborough
*Season Finale: **You DON'T Belong Here* Over the past few weeks we’ve been in a message series entitled The Good Place and have been running parallel to the TV comedy of the same name. We've been trying our best to keep from spoiling any valuable plot points along the way so you would be able to enjoy the show and the sermon series at the same time. However, this week we need to play a “Spoiler Alert” card. At one point in the show Elenor gets a note slipped under her door that reads “You DON'T Belong Here!” We considered preaching a final sermon entitled The Bad Place, but the truth is we couldn’t pass up the idea that the best title would be You Don’t Belong Here. Join us this week as Pastor Keith preaches the final sermon of The Good Place series reminding us that through Christ we have all we need in order to avoid the Bad Place - a place where we do not belong!

The Good Place, Part 3 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
*This Weekend: **The Good Place, Reboot* The TV show, The Good Place, takes place in a new concept for the afterlife called, The Neighborhood. The Neighborhood is controlled by a giant computer; and when there is a glitch in the system, everything Reboots and starts over from the beginning. Wouldn't it be great if we had the same opportunity? To go back and undo, or redo, certain decisions, conversations, and actions? Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike shares how God doesn’t need to reboot us; God just never stops giving us second chances--not because of an unexpected glitch, but because of His intentional grace.

The Good Friday Place: Pastor Jennifer Long
It's Friday and Jesus has been arrest, convicted and executed. It's Friday and all hope seems lost. It's Friday but, Sunday's coming!

The Good Place, Part 2 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
*The Good Place: The Point System* The Good Place is a current TV comedy based on the belief that people go to Heaven by earning enough points. Points are added for good actions and words; points are deducted for bad actions and words. This belief is pervasive in our culture, but it's totally flawed. Join us this Easter weekend as Pastor Mike shows how Jesus' resurrection debunks and destroys the Point System and offers us a better way to The Good Place.

The Good Place, Part 1 - Pastor Mike Schreiner
*"Welcome! Everything is Fine"* The Good Place is a TV comedy revolving around four persons who have just died. Upon arriving in the afterlife—in The Good Place—the first thing they see is a sign that says, “Welcome! Everything is fine.” That’s a similar message culture wanted to send Jesus when He rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey on Palm Sunday. But everything was not fine. What they needed was the same thing we still need today—a Savior. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike kicks off this new series designed to provide contemporary insight and meaning on the last week of Jesus’ life.

Plus + Side, Part 6: Pastor Mike Schreiner
*PLUS + SIDE - A Well for the One* Nuns are usually associated with the Church; but there’s a growing segment of NONES in our country. NONES are persons who don’t identify with any religion or denomination. Ironically, in God’s eyes, NONES are not NOBODIES, but the very SOMEBODIES Jesus came to seek and save. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike shares God’s Vision for Morning Star to keep moving to the PLUS + SIDE by reaching ONE person at a time.
Apr 2, 2019
Plus + Side, Part 5: Pastor Mike Schreiner
*PLUS + SIDE, part 5 - A Well for Sacrifice* Sacrifice isn't a very fashionable term these days. About the only time we hear it is at a baseball game when the batter lays down a sacrifice bunt or hits a sacrifice fly to the outfield. But sacrifice is part and parcel to the Christian faith. Jesus sacrificed His very life in order to pay for our sins and offer us the gift of eternal life; and He calls us to follow Him. The Apostle Paul says that our bodies are "living sacrifices" of worship to God. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike shares how PLUS + SIDE churches teach husbands and wives the value of making sacrifices to bless each other and their kids, as well as develop disciples who sacrifice their time, talent, and treasure for others within the community of faith and beyond.

Plus + Side, Part 4: Pastor Jennifer Long
*PLUS + SIDE Church - A Well for the Outreach* Plus + Side Outreach: As followers of Jesus, we should treat others well and be concerned for those who have need. True. As followers, we want to be part of something bigger than ourselves, to make a difference in the world. Awesome! But is there more that God has in mind for the Church? What is the bigger picture of God’s mission in the world and how does Outreach in a Plus + Side church fulfill the vision of God’s Kingdom? Does caring for “the least of these” mean I have to sell everything I own and become a missionary? Join us this weekend as Pastor Jennifer shares some practical ways we can be a Plus + Side church, serving others and loving well for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
Mar 18, 2019
Plus + Side, Part 3: Mike Schreiner
*PLUS + SIDE Church - A Well for the Next Generation* We’re in crisis: an entire generation of young people are being attacked—in their homes, at school, and 24/7 on social media. Too often, their response is self-hatred and self-harm. Sadly, “Christian” students struggle as much as non-Christians. Culture doesn’t have the answer (it’s part of the problem). Schools don’t have the time to answer. And by and large, churches haven’t stepped up. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike shares how God has called MSC to the PLUS + SIDE—to be a church that equips the next generation with an identity in Jesus—an identity which gives them help and hope to not just survive, but to thrive!
Mar 11, 2019
Plus + Side, Part 2: Keith Scarborough
*PLUS + SIDE Church - Worship* Do you remember when you had church shoes? Or when you had to dress up in your “Sunday Best?” It was the practice of going to church and we had to do it every week. When we got there the misery only continued. We were told to sit still and be quiet. So there I was in clothes that made me feel cramped, shoes that hurt my feet, with an insatiable desire to make the people around me laugh out loud, but I knew if I did I’d be in trouble for the rest of the week! They called it a Worship Service but I was just bored and wanted it to be over. That's because I didn’t know why I was there, I had no relationship with the One I had to dress up for, and I had no reason to worship a God I didn’t even know. . . . But, on the Plus + Side, Worship can be so much more than that. Worship is the only way we have to repay all that God has done for us. When I was a child I could’ve never known that until I had been redeemed by the life, death and resurrection of…

Plus + Side, Part 1: Pastor Mike Schreiner
A Well For Prayer Join us this weekend as we begin a new series, where we share the vision of what a PLUS + SIDE church looks like. Pastor Mike will teach that, while all churches say prayers, PLUS + SIDE churches come together and pray in a way which UNITES God's people and UNLEASHES God's power. Learn how to move your life to the PLUS + SIDE!

Bold Prayer, Part 3: Pastor Keith Scarborough
The Prayer of Jabez The final message in our series Bold Pray[ers] comes from an ancient text filled with the genealogy from Adam through the Babylonian exile ... and YES it is as exciting as it sounds! Join Pastor Keith as he brings a twenty-first century application from this obscure text and gives us some important understandings of how BOLD PRAY[ERS] can actually increase their influence in the world through BOLD PRAYERS!
Feb 19, 2019
Bold Prayer, Part 2: Pastor Mike Schreiner
Enlarge My Perspective God delights in hearing our prayers as well as in answering them. But listening is an equally important aspect of prayer. Listening to what God is saying--in reply to our prayers, as well as in the silence. ("Be still and know I am God.") Without listening, we can demote God to our Celestial Personal Assistant, who's main job is to "help me." Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike teaches on the wisdom of growing our perspective of prayer from only, "God, help me" to also include, "God, help me help you."
Feb 10, 2019
Bold Prayer, Part 1: Pastor Mike Schreiner
Do my prayers really DO anything? Do they affect what God ultimately does? Because if God is Sovereign—all-powerful and all-knowing—then what’s the point? What role does my FAITH play? If I’ve asked like Jesus said, but did NOT receive, did I do it wrong? We all have questions about prayer. This weekend, we kick off a new series designed to answer those questions, but also to equip us to pray with more faith and confidence. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike talks about the connection between faith and prayer.

ReRouting | Part Five - Pastor Mike Schreiner
A myriad of things vie to get your attention daily. Ads and commercials. That guy in 6th hour Spanish class. Your wife and kids. In a world where something or someone is competing for our attention every minute of the day, unless we’re intentional, we’ll miss important moments and reap a harvest of regret. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike teaches us the critical values of how to give our attention and pay attention to the things which matter most.

Rerouting | Part Four - Pastor Mike Schreiner
We all learned the same lesson in elementary school math class: the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. If only life worked like that, right? While life is chocked full of twists and turns, wouldn't it be great if there was something that was able to straighten out the crooked lines, at least a little? Join weekend as Pastor Mike connects us to an ancient biblical truth which has the power to save us a lot of needless time, energy, and most of all, regret.

Rerouting | Part Three - Pastor Keith Scarborough
Perhaps I am only speaking to men when I say, “we hate asking for directions!” At least this is the way it is in my marriage. Lorilise always wanted me to stop for directions, and I always figured the destination was just over the next hill. (This is why married couples love GPS devises.) What is it about us that makes it unlikely to ask for help for anything? The truth is that in any situation there is always someone who knows better than us who would be willing to help advise us on our plan. This week we continue our message series ReRouting and take a closer look at finding Someone Who Knows! - Pastor Keith

Rerouting | Part Two - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Now & Later NOW & LATER isn't just a taffy-like candy. It's also an important element to the Principle of the Path, which we introduced last week. Namely, the decisions we make NOW have a direct correlation to the life we'll experience LATER. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike teaches us the importance of making the wise choice to live as if tomorrow is today.

Rerouting | Part One - Pastor Mike Schreiner
GPS has changed the way we travel. It helps us make correct turns and assists us in getting to our destination. Sometimes however, we make a wrong turn and it reroutes us back in the right direction. God does this too by guiding us in the direction He wants us to go. Sometimes we make a wrong turn and He is faithful to help us get back on the right path.

Christmas at the Movies: Ebenezer Scrooge
We hope you’ve all enjoyed our Christmas at the Movies message series and are having a wonderful Holiday Season. This week has some great movie themes centered around two of the most beloved Christmas stories of all time. Our Saturday and Sunday services feature a continuation of the classic Dickens story, A Christmas Carol. In our story we find Ebenezer Scrooge (played by our own Pastor Keith) one year after his famous encounter with three ghosts on Christmas Eve trying to figure out how he can live every day as if it were Christmas. This original musical comedy includes visits by ghosts and some wonderful family fun. (So much so that we have invited the kids into the service!) Then on Monday, Christmas Eve, Pastor Mike (playing the infamous Tom Hank’s role, The Conductor) takes the Polar Express on the Bethlehem Run, to help us all renew our belief in the Real meaning of Christmas. Weekend services are Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 9:00 and 11:00am on our Dardenne campus and 10am…

The Well: A Chat with Ebenezer Scrooge

Christmas at the Movies: The Grinch
Grinches are fricky and slicky and tricky They try to steal Christmas and make us feel icky. We all have grinches in our lives that make the holidays a little...extra. We have lots of ways of trying to deal with difficult people who seem to bring out the worst in us. Sometimes we want to just avoid them, sometimes we end up acting just like them, but what if this Christmas we could practice loving them? What does that even look like? Cindy Lou Who will be live and in person to share with us some tips on how to love those grinches. She promises not to rhyme - at least not the whole time. Or she'll owe you a dime.

The Well: Cindy Lou Who
We all have Grinches in our lives. As believers we have to decide if we are going to love the difficult people like Jesus loves us when we are difficult. In this weeks special episode our host, Dustin Bryson, invites Cindy Lou Who into the podcasting studio to discuss her visit this weekend to Morning Star Church.

Christmas at the Movies: Christmas with the Kranks
Luther and Nora Krank felt like skipping Christmas. Their daughter joined the Peace Corps and was bound for Peru. It was their first year as empty-nesters. They wanted walk away from the chaos, the expectations, the staggering amount of money they usually spent, and treat themselves to a cruise. Most of us can empathize, right? For lots of reasons, we often find ourselves wanting to skip the holidays and just go on with our normal lives. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike reminds us that, while we may skip out on all the festivities, it’s actually Good News that God never fails to deliver Christmas.

The Well: Christmas Shoppe with Jennifer Long
Every year we have the opportunity to gather for ourselves at Christmas or do for others. At MSC we offer multiple opportunities to give back throughout the holidays but none is bigger than Christmas Shoppe. So, we invited Pastor Jennifer into the studio to chat about this powerful opportunity and fill us in on what it's all about and how each of us can get involved.

Christmas at the Movies: Christmas Vacation
They say the best stories are real; and the real story of Christmas will never be topped--a God who loved and desperately yearned for relationship with humanity so much that He became human flesh and lived among us! It’s no wonder many contemporary storytellers continue to point to the deep, biblical truths communicated in that first Christmas story. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike kicks off a new series. We’ll look through the lens of some of our favorite Christmas movies to discover the rich realities of God's desire to be with us, bless us, and build us into His kingdom-people.

How To Train Your Dollar | Part 4: Pastor Mike Schreiner
*How to Train Your Dollar: Make it Do Good* Just like we can train certain dogs to guide blind persons, rescue people trapped in rubble, and sniff out drugs or bombs, so we can train our money to do good. In fact, the Apostle Paul (who made his living making tents, not taking up offerings after he preached) said that God wants to make every one of us rich in every way so we can be generous on every occasion. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike puts an exclamation point at the end of this series by teaching us how to train our dollar to do good--for us, for others, and for God!

How to Train Your Dollar | Part 3: Pastor Keith & Pastor Mike
Have you ever had a really good dog? One that is more than just a great friend but more like a partner? Working on ranches, herding sheep, guarding fences, there is nothing like having a "good ole dawg" working for you. As we are making comparisons between training dogs and dollars, it occurs to me that our dollars should be working for us like a good Australian Shepherd on a cattle ranch. Join us this weekend to learn about how you can train your dollars to work for you and more than that, you can learn a secret that your dog mastered long ago, I'll give you a hint, it's about contentment!

How to Train Your Dollar | Part 2: Pastor Mike Schreiner
*Make It Behave* Dog trainers at Obedience Schools teach you they’re not really training the dog. They’re training the owner. It’s all about how the owner follows through. The same principle applies to your finances. Money always behaves. It will always do what you tell it to do; go where you want it to go; stay where you want it to stay. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike gives YOU the training YOU need in order to MAKE YOUR DOLLAR BEHAVE.

How To Train Your Dollar | Part 1: Pastor Mike Schreiner
*Obedience Has Its Rewards* Pet owners will all agree: training their animal is essential. It’s why so many new dog owners take their new puppies to Obedience School. The up-front investment pays long-term dividends. Fewer pieces of furniture and clothing get chewed up; and fewer “accidents” on the carpet to clean up. This same principle applies to lots of areas of our lives, including our finances. Our money needs to be trained… to behave, to work for you, and to do good in the world. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike begins a new series on How to Train Your Dollar with an all-important truth: Obedience Has Its Rewards.

Unmasked | Part 4: Pastor Mike Schreiner
*Unmasked, Part 4 - Good Grief* Imagine moving from your homeland, then your spouse dies, followed by both your two children. That's the story of Naomi, which we find in the Old Testament book of Ruth. Few of us can identify with that amount of loss, yet we all experience loss over the course of our lives--our youthfulness; some of our dreams; our false-sense of control. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike shares how the story of Naomi and her daughter-in-law, Ruth, UNMASKS what we really lose when we sweep our suffering under the rug instead of facing it head-on.

Unmasked | Part 3: Pastor Mike Schreiner
*UNMASKED, Part 3; When Faith Stops Working* Distance runners talk about hitting The Wall, a place of total exhaustion. Yet if they keep pressing forward, they eventually push through The Wall and everything becomes easier. Likewise, as we run the marathon of our spiritual journey, each of us will eventually hit a place where everything feels hard and even God seems distant. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike UNMASKS the idea that the spiritual journey is a perpetual bed of roses, and equips us to persevere when our faith doesn't seem to be working.

Unmasked | Part 2: Pastor Jennifer Long
We all wear masks at some point in our lives. Some of us more than others. Some of them are intentional masks we put on to try to cover up the parts of us that we think are inferior or don’t measure up. Many times we have masks, though, that we don’t even know we are wearing. But God knows who we really are underneath all those masks. And God wants us to know who we are, too! Actually, the more we know who we are the more we are able to know who God is. Join us this weekend as we learn to take off the masks that hide our true selves.

Unmasked | Part 1: Over-Ruled - Pastor Mike Schreiner
Rules. Written and unwritten. We have them in every area of our lives: in our relationships; at school or the office; when we drive down the road; even in religion. Consider that Judaism has 623 rules, and that doesn’t even include rules for marriage and asset ownership. But here’s the Good News. Jesus UNMASKED RELIGION. He simplified the rules. A lot! Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike unpacks the deeper reason why Jesus gave us a single, Golden Rule which OVER-RULED all the others.

Vision | Reaching For It (wk 4) - Pastor Mike Schreiner
You’ve heard the phrase, “really reaching for it.” We all have an “it” that we reach for. So does God… sort of. You see, God’s “it” is actually people—persons who haven’t experienced salvation. So how does God “reach” these persons? Through other people—you and me. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike explains how God has intentionally placed each of us to extend His REACH, and why we must commit ourselves to Really Reach for It.

Vision | Rich Relationships (wk 3) - Pastor Mike Schreiner
When asked about the most important of all commandments, Jesus wasted no time responding. He said it was all about relationships--"Love God with all you have and love others as yourself." Why? Because that's all we take into eternity. We don't take our possessions or accomplishments. Eternity is about having perfect relationships with God, ourselves, and others. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike teaches us how to begin experiencing a little heaven on earth by building ridiculously rich relationships.

Vision | Refresh (wk 1) - Pastor Mike Schreiner
The Pause that Refreshes In 1929, Coca-Cola launched a new, three-year ad campaign: The Pause that Refreshes. But the original "Pause that Refreshes" campaign was launched by none other than God at the very beginning of time. After six intense days of creating the universe, God created a seventh day called "Sabbath." The purpose was to stop, rest, and delight. Join us this weekend as Pastor Mike returns from his sabbatical and shares why God still campaigns--even commands--His people to embrace the practice and receive the blessing of the Pause that Refreshes.

Backpack Impact (wk 3) Pastor Steven Mitchell
Mental Health Today’s young folks have a ton of issues to deal with. When we prepare ourselves, our family, and our friends for school, one thing we must keep in mind is, mental health is a real issue for our young people. Whether it is depression, anxiety, or any other mental health factor, we are all impacted either directly or indirectly. We need to remove the stigma of mental health so that we can be a community of faith which rallies around our kids just like Jesus does.

Backpack Impact (wk 2) Pastor Keith Scarborough
The Internet Issue This week we continue our series Backpack Impact. Throughout the year Morning Star Church helps kids who receive free breakfast and lunch at school during the week by providing food to backpack home and eat over the weekend. While this is a great way to serve our community we wanted to take a few weeks to talk through the main issues our kids are facing beyond hunger. To that end, we interviewed several local education professionals and discovered the three main problems our kids are facing as they head back to school this month. This week Pastor Keith looks at the challenge the internet brings to raising kids and keeping students focused. Technology is not a bad thing when it comes with proper boundaries and usage, and interestingly the Bible has much to say about this issue. This message will only be pertinent to your life if you use the internet! So, bring your Bible and an open spirit and let's tackle this issue together.

Backpack Impact (wk 1) Pastor Jennifer Long
It’s time for school! Time to get back to some structure and get back to the basics. We want our kids to have the right things in their backpack so they’re ready to head off to school. But our kids are up against an awful lot these days. The constant barrage of social media, technology, the struggles with bullying, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression - it's just a lot more to deal with and is having a greater impact than just a decade ago. How can we as parents, grandparents, educators, and community members help make sure our kids are prepared to tackle this school year? How does God's Word give us instruction and encouragement as we try to protect our kids? Our new series, Backpack Impact, will give us the tools we need to help our kids navigate these challenges.

Summer Playlist (wk 6) Pastor Keith Scarborough
“Dying For A Living?” This week Pastor Keith will be taking a nostalgic look at his past working as an actor/director in a Wild West theme park. Keith tells us that in those days he "died for a living" and in this message, he looks at how Jesus tells us we must die to ourselves in order to live. You're not going to want to miss the video we are showing from the early 1990's that follows Pastor Keith in a day in the life of a cowboy who never wins a gunfight! This is a great weekend to invite your friends who don't know of Jesus and His transforming love.

Summer Playlist (wk 5) Pastor Ron Watts
“Do you want to get well?” – John 5:1-16 Sometimes we get so used to being sick that it’s all we know. Living in sickness can become a new normal and leaving it to move towards health sounds good on the outside, but can actually be terrifying. Change is hard – even when that change involves getting better. We’ll consider that reality as we look at the powerful story of healing at the Pool of Bethesda.

Summer Playlist (wk 4) Pastor Sean Gladding
What if there is something other than the binding that is holding the bible together? What if it is a Grand Story - a Story many of us have yet to hear, including those who may have been reading the bible our whole life? Looking through the lens the apostle Paul provides in Romans 8.18-25, guest speaker Sean Gladding will begin with Genesis 1, and will take us on a journey through scripture hearing this Grand Narrative all the way through to the Revelation 22. The hope-filled Story of the whole Bible in 20 minutes? It'll be a good weekend to worship with the Morning Star community - and perhaps to bring a neighbor or friend who may need to hear the Story too!

A pink slip. A diagnosis. A death. It doesn't matter what we call it, or the form it takes, storms are never too far away. How we handle the storms makes all the difference. Jesus is how we build a life that can withstand storms, a life that is Unshakable.

Summer Playlist (wk 2) Rev. Brad Kalajainen
Many people go through life truly feeling that God probably is not pleased with them. Sometimes we think of God like we thought of the "Principal's Office" in middle or high school. "God wants me to shape up, get in line, stop my bad habits, or whatever." The truth is that God is for you, not against you. One verse from the Old Testament book of Zephaniah will forever change how you think and feel about God's presence in your life.

Summer Playlist (wk 1) Dr. Emanuel Cleaver III
Life is a journey and we aren't on it alone. God's plan is that we travel together, with each other and with Him. Join us this weekend for a special sermon titled: "Are You There" based on Acts 10:9-10 from ECIII. "Are You There" highlights the thought that we are all on a spiritual journey, and we are not there yet. While on our destination to move closer and closer to God, we can still experience God on the journey.

Shipwrecked (wk 6) StewardSHIP
We are calling our final installment of our Shipwrecked series: StewardSHIP, and before you tune me out I want you to know this is NOT a message about your money. Most of the time when a church talks about stewardship they are trying to get you to give more money (not that there is anything wrong with that) but not this weekend. This weekend we are going to talk about one of the most sure-fire ways to avoid a shipwreck in your life. This foolproof plan requires an attitude adjustment that moves you from thinking of yourself as an owner to understanding that "Every good and perfect gift comes from God" and moves you into the role of steward. Join us this weekend as Pastor Keith tells the story of Joseph and explains how we too can become good stewards and avoid shipwrecks.

Shipwrecked (wk 5) DiscipleSHIP
Discipleship sounds like a fancy five-dollar word but, the truth is, discipleship is a lifelong journey where we become more fully devoted to Jesus and to His people. In this message, Bruce will call people to take the next step forward in their discipleship journey. He'll use his own journey to illustrate how God’s amazing grace – prevenient, justifying and sanctifying have been at work as he's followed, Jesus Christ.

Shipwrecked (wk 4) LeaderSHIP

Shipwrecked (wk 3) RelationSHIPS
Life is not always smooth sailing. We often find ourselves shipwrecked after running into the waves and rocks of life. Sometimes, we choose to try to navigate these difficult times on our own. We can believe that it will just take a little extra effort or that we do not want to burden others with our problems. God, however, has a different idea for how we deal with the shipwrecks in our lives. Join us this weekend as we look at God's plan to get us back to calm waters.

Shipwrecked (wk 2) CitizenSHIP
It's pretty easy to look at our political landscape and see that we've got a wreck. Neighbors quit talking to neighbors because of a social media post, families argue at the backyard BBQ, the constant news makes our blood pressure rise, and sometimes it seems we are far from being ideal citizens. How do we right this ship? This weekend we will take a look at what Jesus has to say about where our citizenship really is. And it's family weekend, so bring the kids!
