How To Rebuild Your Reputation
Today I have a very special topic I'll be talking about, and today I will be talking about recovering your reputation.
It's really about when you lose a label that they've attached to you and you regain your standing within the organization.
It's not easy. Let me tell you, I have been there.
I remember working on a project a long time ago. It was in the early days of working on a project.
It was a big change project where we were looking to bring about a new system that was going to impact people on their jobs.
People might lose their jobs, that sort of thing.
And I hadn't gotten the confidence I needed at the time to take on such a role.
I had the skills, but not the confidence.
I wasn't usually assertive enough.
I would go into meetings and I would find that the stakeholder who I was supposed to be navigating and driving to a solution was pushing back big time.
I mean, jobs were being lost, so there were some serious pushback and emotions involved, and I couldn't handle it.
I couldn't get my message across.
And very quickly, I started to come across as someone who was incapable of doing the job.
Now, the reality is that none of us is perfect.
Making mistakes or getting things wrong is just a part of life and part of the learning process.

3 Ways To Become More Approachable In The Workplace
*Now, in this week's episode, we will be talking about three ways to become approachable.*
*Now, being approachable is key to building relationships in the workplace.*
*And if anyone who knows anything knows, relationships are the bedrock or the foundation of the workplace.*
*I mean, when you think about it, when you really strip it down. A workplace with all this technology, process, systems, is really a lot of people engaging with each other, working as a team to get stuff done to produce a product, produce a service, and deliver it to the customer.*
*Those technology to process the systems, all of that stuff are enablers to people working together.*
*So it stands to reason that being able to build and foster strong relationships is the foundation of any organization.*
*So being able to build key relationships is important because it allows you to build a strong team, have trust, confidence and ideas with people, and many stuff just flows.*
*Stuff just happens. So when you're approachable, teammates don't sit and cover up problems.*
*They're open, they share. And this means we're able to bring issues before each other, and we can just get stuff out there.*
*And it just means people can learn. And it's a great workplace.*
*But also, you'll know that there are some people in the work place who they've just got it.*
*They can work with people, they can relate, they can interact. And these same people, when they get stuff wrong, people are quick to say, Yeah, fix it.*
*Yeah, they'll be fine. And guess what?*
*He's just a good guy.*
*She's a good girl.*
*And here you are doing your best, and when stuff goes wrong.*
*Everyone goes, "Ahhh."*
*And sometimes it's really about relationships, not all the time, but relationships go a long way.*
*It covers up a multitude of sins. But that's what I want to talk about today.*

3 Ways To Future Proof Your Career
This week we're gonna be talking about something we can all do with a bit of - future proofing.
I always think about it whenever I go to buy a new device, whenever I want to buy a new computer.
One of the questions I always ask is - what's this going to look like in 2, 3 years.
Will it serve a purpose?
I mean, you think about it.
You're buying a phone, you're buying a laptop, you're buying a TV and electronic device where you're investing quite a significant amount of money.
What you don't want is to buy that device.
And then six months later, there's something new on the market that does way better than what your own does.
I mean, there's companies where you buy a certain device and then a month later, a newer version comes out that just does a bit more than yours.
And you're thinking, if I just waited, I could have bought this same device or that new device for the same amount of money.
And it would be even more future proof.
And that's the thing about it.
When it comes to our careers, we don't apply probably apply the same logic and thought, because it's one of those things that it requires you to change.
It requires you to reflect.
And sometimes when you get caught up in the humdrum, the daily hustle and bustle of life, of going to work in, out, in, out.

5 things to MUST do when Job Hunting

This week, I'll be speaking about something quite dear to my heart.
And it's one when I think about.
I can't sometimes, but almost shed a tear.
It takes me back to a few many years ago.
It was a Friday, four PM.
I set up my computer doing my job as normal, and I get an email for an invite to come to a meeting at 4 PM.
Looking back 4 PMs on Fridays have never been the same again.
You send me a calendar invite at 4 PM on a Friday.
Panic sets in. On a more serious note.
I get the meeting, I go to the meeting, I sit down and my manager in no uncertain term says, we've been looking at your performance. We don't think you're good.
You can cut it.
We're going to have to let you go. To add context.
This was a job I so loved.
I so enjoyed doing, and I thought, this is the role I was born to do.
But all of a sudden you're fired, sacked.
Losing a job can be devastating.
You can just imagine being walked down to the reception.
I'll take your pass, give us your laptop.
Is there anything else you need? Okay.
You don't need to come in on Monday.
Take the whole week to cool off and you can come in a week from now.
Don't worry.
We won't take this against your leave time.
Just take it as paid leave and we'll see you in two Mondays time.
I bet they thought they're doing me a favor.
They probably were thinking back, due date?
I don't know.
HR people you might have thought on this.
Do they let people go on a Friday so that you have the weekend to drink away your misery and your tears?
I don't know. I'm just asking.
