Many don't know this, but there are free ranging Elk in West Texas. They were introduced into the McKittrick Canyon in 1928. Today, five herds of Rocky Mountain Elk exist in the Guadalupe, Glass, Wylie, Davis and Eagle Mountains of West Texas.
The State of Texas considers Elk to be an exotic animal. What does this mean? It means you can hunt Elk year-round with limited restrictions. A non-resident 5-day special hunting license for $48, or annual version for $132, is all you need! It is known as license number 157.
