Legacy Capital Markets vs. DeFi, with Bittrex Global CEO Tom Albright
My guest today is Tom Albright, CEO of Bittrex Global. Bittrex Global is a secure, reliable and advanced digital asset trading platform developed for international customers and built on Bittrex’s cutting-edge technology. Before becoming CEO in February 2020, Tom served as general counsel of Bittrex in the United States, where he supervised all legal matters and managed all legal operations. This is a must listen for anyone interested in understanding the inefficiencies in traditional finance and how crypto is building a new financial system. We discuss how legacy capital markets and securities work, the growth decentralization throughout society, crypto's current regulatory framework, Bittrex and tokenizing stocks. I hope you enjoy this conversation. ––– YIELD With a market so new and so powerful, it goes without saying that investment opportunities are everywhere, with sometimes the potential for astonishing returns. Yield filters through all defi investments, consolidated gas fees, and only invests in a select few to generate up to 20% APY, which more than double what you could earn from the top lending services in the space. Check them out at https://on.yield.app/charlie ––– This podcast is powered by BlockWorks Group. Bryce Paul & Pizza Mind: Bitcoin Blockchain Cryptocurrency Ethereum Advocates
Ep. 362 - Privacy vs. Transparency in Cryptocurrency Smart Contracts w/ Oasis Protocol
In this episode of CRYPTO 101, we talk with Luca Cosentino from Oasis Protocol about smart contracts. Smart contracts power the DeFi ecosystem on the backend. Even if Uniswap or other DEX front-ends were to be seized or shut down, the trading would still continue and new interfaces would pop up somewhere else the very next day (or sooner). Oasis offers private smart contracts, a potentially revolutionary step forward in security. Crypto has two major conflicting ideologies, transparency vs privacy. Each use case seems to have a good argument for either, or sometimes both. Luca shares his thoughts on the advantages of private smart contracts, as well as the full-featured open finance ecosystem being built at Oasis. The hot topic of the day is, can Ethereum scale, and when? We get some insight from someone knowledgeable in the field. We also learned about a novel concept called Tokenized Data, and what may allow users to sell their data that they currently (and often unknowingly) give away for free today. Is Musk Going To Pi** off the SEC Again? #135
Well, we recorded this podcast before this news came out – but we saw this one coming…Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is reportedly under SEC scrutiny over some alleged cryptocurrency manipulation and it is not over Bitcoin – it is over Dogecoin. Musk and the SEC have more of a hate-hate relationship than a love-hate relationship, and of course, the SEC has gone after him before. During his attempt to take Tesla private in 2018 he tweeted out “funding secured” which led the SEC to file a lawsuit against him as they felt he was exaggerating, and they fined him, and Tesla, $20M USD each (Musk bought $20M in shares from Tesla to cover their part of the fine and has since made that money backhand over fist). Also, as part of that settlement, Musk had to step down from being the Chairman of the Board. Recently, with Musk a key evangelist for bitcoin, Tesla bought $1.5B in bitcoin – and his love for crypto does not stop there. Musk has been shilling for Dogecoin, the famous ‘joke’ coin with a dog as its mascot. But will the ‘joke’ be on Musk? As an influencer in today’s society, this means that people will follow where he leads. So, when he tweets his love for bitcoin, it apparently translates to “buy bitcoin” for all the sheep out there. So, what happens when Musk writes “bitcoin is almost as bs as regular money”? Well, it makes the SEC sad, as it starts to apparently look like market manipulation. But is the SEC right to be mad? Join Aviva Ounap, host of Crypto and Blockchain Talk, and Jonathan Dunsmoor from Dunsmoor Law as they have a quick chat about Musk, Bitcoin, and Doge and ask – what will happen? Tune in to CryptoAndBlockchainTalk.com, the podcast that makes you smarter about the worlds of blockchain and cryptocurrency, and everything in between. In this episode, Bobby Ong, co-founder of CoinGecko is joined by Ganesh Swami, the co-founder and CEO of Covalent. Bobby interviewed Ganesh on the background of Covalent, differences between Covalent and The Graph, his thoughts on ETH 2.0 as well as Covalent’s plans for 2021. *[00:00:02] *Intro* [00:01:19] *Introduction of Covalent* [00:05:46] *Users of Covalent* [00:11:40] *Differences between Covalent and The Graph * [00:10:40] *Index Data for Layer 1 and Layer 2 solutions* [00:18:35]* Thoughts on ETH 2.0* [00:24:49] *Effect of Layer 2 solutions on ETH DeFi ecosystem * [00:29:25] *Plans for Covalent in 2021* [00:31:27] *Where to follow Covalent *Quotes from the episode: * “If you want to get a balance of every ERC20 token in your wallet, that is not a question that The Graph can ever answer. But Covalent can answer that in 300 milliseconds.”* [00:12:43] * “And so I would say Ethereum is kind of like the Jack of all trades, but it's not the best probably at every single use case, but it can definitely build a specialized blockchain for a specific use case and carve out your niche.”* [00:23:44] * “We do have a token. We will be announcing a lot of that stuff soon, but I would say the big milestones for Covalent this year would be our public sale, which is sometime in Q2." *[00:30:20] Links *Covalent - https://www.covalenthq.com/ CoinGecko - https://www.coingecko.com/ *Social Media *Covalent: https://twitter.com/Covalent_HQ https://t.me/covalentofficial CoinGecko: https://twitter.com/coingecko https://t.me/coingecko * *

Episode 169: Arkworks SNARK libraries with Pratyush Mishra
In this week’s episode, Anna (https://twitter.com/AnnaRRose) and Robert Habermeier (https://twitter.com/rphmeier) chat with Pratyush Mishra (https://twitter.com/zkproofs), co-author of the Arkworks toolkit. Arkworks is a collection of Rust libraries designed to simplify development with SNARKs, both for developing high-level application circuits and building custom SNARK implementations. Pratyush lays out what possibilities and trade-offs Arkworks offers, diving into the details of the Rust implementation and why it is the best language for developing cryptographic primitives. Anna, Rob and Pratyush then branch out into the philosophical and practical questions of open-source and blockchain development. Here are a few links to Arkworks and the topics they discussed: Arkworks GitHub (https://github.com/arkworks-rs) page and Telegram (https://t.me/joinchat/FqkNt8u_OenonTJ4) group. Pratyush’s GitHub (https://github.com/Pratyush), Twitter (https://twitter.com/zkproofs) and Berkeley (https://people.eecs.berkeley.edu/~pratyushmishra/) pages. Bellman (https://github.com/zkcrypto/bellman) and Libsnark (https://github.com/scipr-lab/libsnark), some of the other libraries that are similar to Arkworks. The Celo (https://docs.celo.org/overview) and Mina (https://minaprotocol.com/docs) protocols, two major projects using Arkworks. Here (https://medium.com/cornellblockchain/a-brief-dive-into-zk-snarks-and-the-zokrates-toolbox-on-the-ethereum-blockchain-cb7bd7f00fdc) is a basic explainer of what projects like Arkworks are trying to do and why it’s useful, with a particular focus on ZoKrates, one of the languages Pratyush mentioned.
